Xavier Worthy injured during 1st practice as a Chief
stevewin replied to transplantbillsfan's topic in The Stadium Wall
Yet according to the media and the overreactions on this board we "gave" the Chiefs Worthy, even though they literally paid us for him. I'll be surprised if I ever read anything more stupid on this board (or anywhere for that matter) than the people who actually said Beane and the Bills were stupid for not drafting Worthy even though they didn't want him, just to prevent KC from getting him. -

Semi-related - at practice I was at earlier this week one of the ST periods seemed to be more about just trying different types of kicks - there were some Bass was trying to skip it on the ground just past the 25 yd line - will be interesting to see what becomes popular
-
At the end of that you can see how more short/stocky Solomon is (esp compared to other DE) which surprised me when I saw him for the first time at camp - thought with the long arms he would be more taller/lanky
-
It definitely was interesting so see the different side from the GM perspective - even though Shoen isn't exactly the most dynamic personality it still held interest. The one thing is how sanitized this version will likely always be, teams will generaly want to protect who were the players they were targetting in FA and draft that they didn't get, and will always want to end with the idea that they got exactly the guys they wanted.

People forget the injuries he has gutted through the last two years without ever complaining or bringing it up at all - but he had to adjust to be able to throw at all with the injuries

Random observations from today's practice; - Hollins first one out again hair flowing and feet bare - Watching players coming out from top of bleachers: - Elam only non WR I saw on juggs - he was there for a while - In vip area as players approach tunnel from fieldhouse there was 7 guys all with Dawkins jerseys on. Dion comes over and turns out he knows them all- assume from his hometown bc heard Joisey a lot. One guy had his kid there heard Dion say "I remember when you were in diapers" Stayed for 5 mins talking to them all - was a really cool scene - Every time I see Josh doing the walk from the fieldhouse I'm reminded I Love You Josh Allen 😛 - Merciful clouds to start practice, but didn't last long unfortunately - Lots of ST to start - OL doing a drill where the rusher bull rushes then jumps up and they try to maintain contact. Then for a while two guys on each side with pads coming at a blocker needed to engage left then right then left then right - QBs doing the drill where they hand off then get another ball tossed to them then immediately throw to the side - did same yesterday, - Next was routes against air - Have to say trubisky throws a nice ball - tight spiral with zip - Red zone 1-1 selected plays - Coleman great grab vs Elam gets feet in, shavers v benford incomplete great effort both, hamler v Ingram couldn't hold on, Shakir v taron ref said out but very close, Coleman v Elam nice catch td, keys v brown sick move to be open. Hamler v rasul great coach in middle with defender hanging all over him, ingram nice pbu vs isabella, shavers couldn't hold on, Xavier Johnson left brown in the dust sick inside move, Lewis int after coleman fell down. Hamler great contested grab at back ez, ref called out. Were multiple great effort plays by receivers that refs called out that looked very close - would have been a lot of video reviews and possible overturns on many of these ez catches if this was real game - 11-11 selected plays - Lot more runs this 11-11 session Josh to Samuel 15 yd down middle, Trubsky to samuel similar play, Dorian Williams like a rocket to destroy sweep, davis cant get edge v 2nd team d nice d, 3rd string lovely stops quick out to Isabella in its tracks, davis 1st team nice run to left 15 yds - After the whistle a lot of times the rb will just keep going (and keep getting popped) and sometimes keep running all the way to EZ. Yesterday noticed trubisky tearing down field to run with rb into ez, today noticed all 3 qbs doing it at times so seems just a thing they decided to do for fun (couple times there were some audibles - one time Buechele was tearing down the field on a run play and the RB stopped, so he quickly sheepishly looped back to LOS, one time Josh was running down and RB started to stop and Josh made him run all the way in with him - guess Buechel doesn't quite have the same command 😛 ) - Caught a shirt - Next was a period where defense was off on the side field and offense stood around for like 10 mins going over some formation or concept - did 4 snaps total may have been the lowest energy extended period I have ever seen at a practice - maybe on purpose bc of the heat - 11-11 selected plays - Looked like they were doing 3rd and long - Kincaid sliding grab at marker, quick slant Josh pass to mvs for td - though it might have been blown dead - von came up middle with clear shot (was the one play i keyed on von - did a little juke/delay and then looped over to middle and was untouched), Trubisky nice step up to avoid pressure hit keys 1st down, db blitzes untouched from left side trubisky reads immediately and gets ball to mckitty nice play, rasul drops int from josh after nice break on ball, Josh threads beautiful 20 yd pass down middle to Hollis with 4 guys around him, bishop really nice physical pbu on long josh throw to te down field, pbu on Josh forced throw to shavers, Josh quick out to Samuel 15 yds, groot untouched sack, josh to kincaid down middle 15 yds, trubisky beautiful pass to hollins thread needle 20 yds, Some scuffle well after play - just saw the huge scrum then solomon being dragged out by 2 teammates, josh quick out to Keon, then dump off to cook 10 yds, trubisky threaded another pass down middle, Josh scrambles then whistle blows and Josh keeps running around in secondary til comes up to safety then collapses on ground in a " slide" - what a goof - bass 5 for 6 increasing yardage fgs, missed last from 50 - browning was holding - 11-11 selected plays - Last reps by 1st team,, dline not trying to bring pressure - Keon 1st down short throw, beautiful run davis up middle, MVS no gain, Hamlin laid wood to shavers who hung on - looked like might have been a head shot, cook up middle no gain, short dump off bounces off Kincaid hands (human after all), Kincaid 1st down, josh beautiful long throw down middle to Shakir threaded between 4 defenders, Knox fist down, shavers nice comeback 8 yds sideline, nice pbu in hardy, Josh force to davidson with 2 defenders there - hardy another pbu (think Josh knew it was last play) - This was a long practice in the heat - went to 11:50 - Final thoughts from last two days: - MVS was out there many times with the ones today, but my big takeaway is I wouldn't put any stock who is with ones - it is constantly changing not only where guys line up but also who they line up with, and which team it is. Even if/when "starters" are designated i dont think it will matter much since personnel is all going to be different based on the play - Think practice today was less energy than yesterday. D was thumping more yesterday, but today seemed to be actually playing more stout d even with a little less 'edge' hitting after whistle etc - Bernard seemed really hyped both days being physical - Trubisky looked good to me both days - moved well in pocket, avoided pressure, some nice throws with zip - a couple elite ones. Looked like a legitimate QB - Davis really looks like the real deal to me. I said yesterday he looks tiny standing around but doesn't look small with the ball in his hands - I hope Hamler makes the team as returner bc I think he is a legitimate receiver as well. Dude constantly flashed to me both days (yesterday at first I kept seeing 19 making plays and asking myself who is 19? dude is balling! I soon learned) - he is a dog who was playing much bigger than he is - physical fighting for position and going after balls

Training Camp 7/29 - First day of pads
stevewin replied to DaBillsFanSince1973's topic in The Stadium Wall
Fwiw after the missed exchange today Josh held up his hands then wiped them multiple times on a towel as if to say it slipped out of his wet hands. I don't think today's was McGovern fault -
Training Camp 7/29 - First day of pads

Random thoughts on today's practice: - MY 90 yr old dad when he's not yelling at clouds has a tendency to regurgitate the negative narratives he hears on WGR and I figure they must really be bashing Bass on there bc on the drive down the thruway out of nowhere he went into this rant on the guy - he HATES him now 😛 - Mac Hollins first out on field with his glorious hair and bare feet - Seeing Dion up close walking out to field can confirm his ample TC stomach is intact - Went up to top of the bleachers to watch players walk out to field from the fieldhouse and saw Astro in his usual spot. Talked briefly, he's been getting some donated tickets and mentioned the other day he got in on a 'pay it forward' situation where someone had scanned their extra tickets and told the usher to use it for people behind with no tix - Josh definitely looks slimmer to me, in a good/healthy way - With his helmet off Bishop looks like a HS kid - La'el Collins had a big brace on his leg and when he first got on field he started to jog to his position group and was really laboring - think my 90 yr old dad would have looked smoother - looked like the knee was nowhere close to 100% - Standing next to other DLine, Solomon looked much shorter and stockier than I imagined. Carter looked bigger than I thought he would be - One nice difference this camp is no trainer working Josh's shoulder during warmups 👍 - if I had a camp ticket for every whiny kid complaint around me after 10 mins - "I wanna go down there!" "I wanna get an autograph" "I'm hot!" "I'm bored!".... - I'd have a ticket to every practice for me and my extended family this year - They worked on the new kickoff for a while. At first blush the actual meeting of the two sides was much less interesting than I expected - though it is all vanilla now. The main thing they seemed to be working on was trying to figure out the best way to kick - they even tried some line drives skipping just past the 25 - They were doing some weird drill for TE then Wrs then RBs where one guy would take a ball and jog with a guy jogging next to him halheartledly punching at tje ball while touching the ground twice then diving into a pad - and they were all doing it like 1/2 speed - it was strange - Some 1-1 battles: Hamler v Bishop beat him nice sideline route, Xavier Johnson had his db all turned around with 2 sick moves down the middle of the field, Hamler vs Ingram, nice come back route caught a ball off the ground, Benford mugs Keon - if pittsford PD were on the field they'd have arrested him for assault, one receiver (not sure who) dropped a long pass wide open right in his hands - Hamlin beat, Hamler made Elam fall down then dropped ball on slant and dropped for 10 push-ups, Samuel nice move beat Ingram clean - josh long throw slightly off samuel adjusted to ball for td, Hamler gets position on Elam physical battle goes to ground, Elam comes up with ball but wasn't clear if catch was already made, Hamler wins next rep wide open, Benford good D vs Hollins covered like a blanket, Keon nasty comeback vs Ingram left him wide open (lots of separation), long throw to EZ ball just past Keon's outstretched arms had more than a step (lots of separation) - To me Hamler was a beast this part of practice - I was expecting a little fast smurf, but he was a dog both being physical getting position and fighting Dbs as well as making moves that got him wide open. Over and over I'd see a wr flash or make a play and it was 19 - They did a drill where rb ran with 2 receivers blocking 2 dbs. Babich basically went bonkers screaming more than a few times - Mcd was really into this drill as well. Bishop ended the drill by completely destroying his guy and blowing up the play - I haven't read any reports, but for the 'scuffle" I heard the commotion and looked over and saw Bernard running full sprint into Anderson from 5 yds away. Then it was broken up and ended as fast as it began - 11-11: - Bernard killed a man (Ty Johnson) on a sweep, Shavers nice grab on Josh rollout, Davis nice run up middle made 1st guy miss nice move, Nice throw trubisky to Morris under pressure, Bryan thompson wide open long gain 3rd string, Samuel end around made 1st person miss, Davis run - after whistle blew davis kept going, benford chased him down, knocked ball out then went after it with diving "recovery", Shakir wide open long gain no one within 5 yds, Samuel wide open long seam pass, Josh looking deep, looking deep, check down to davis for 10 yds, Fumbled exchange - Josh held up his hands then wiped them on towel multiple times which made me think it was his fault, Dorian Williams getting left leg/hip worked on on sideline, Evans nice long TD run breaking thru middle - out of nowhere Trubisky appears sprinting all the way down the field to the EZ to escort him in, attempted screen to Samuel - D collapses and thumps from all angle one defender helmet flies off, Groot sack - Williams takes a shot at hollins on the throwaway pass after whistle blew, beautiful long pass down the middle to Shakir, Josh nice sidearm pass avoiding pressure to morris up the middle - Davis looks tiny until he gets the ball in his hands, then he doesn't look small anymore - if that makes sense. Extremely smooth and natural runner i think with deceptive power - Clapp is a mountain of a human being - holy crap - Thru 11-11 D was really playing with an edge - if rb kept going after whistle they keep thumping. Benford and Bernard especially seemed to really have a bug up their butt today. Lot of contact from D thumping and pushing after whistle blew - not dirty but definitely seemed like they were purposely trying to have/show a physical edge- 284 replies

In one of the summaries yesterday (can't remember who) the person reporting had a snippet that he watched Solomon a bit and he wasn't able to generate anything for the snaps this guy watched. Doesn't mean anthing in the overall picture but it was the one mention I've seen
-
So if you listen to the PC and the whole comment around what he said - what he meant was that WRs will have no single assigned/designated position to learn for a play, - ie. they should all be ready to play any of the WR positions and understand what to do from any spot in a formation - not that there are literallly "no positions"
-
That's pretty high praise lol To a person every interview I've seen where Hollins name comes up players/coaches gush about him. Can he marry my daughter?

I'm willing to bet it is something closer to this. From Jessica's article alluding to the extent of the brain damage it certainly wasn't a given she would ever recover fully -
Except for PETA - and turkeys

I was joking

So you're saying Samuel will be a 1000 yd receiver?
-
I remember one game - I can't even remember the situation - Mularkey said after the game about some key play in the game "There was no Plan B" - which I guess could be interpreted as "We were all in on that" but I think he meant they literally had no alternate plan 😛

It's also about the sum vs individual. The everybody celebrates thing - team goals - anti-diva

FWIW I'm a fan of separate threads for each day vs one mega thread - impossible to easily go back and find things from any previous days, also allows dicussing specific things from separate days in an ordered way
