Hard Knocks 2018: The Cleveland Browns
stevewin replied to YoloinOhio's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Wasn't the kid with Baker his brother? Re: The RV thing and Mayfield's comment ""Most places the rookies buy dinner, not here. Not the Cleveland Browns. I had to get my own RV" - I read that as someone made Mayfield pay for the RV as a rookie type hazing thing, but I don't understand who or why someone would do that - you would think as the vet Tyrod would be calling the shots, but that doesn't seem like something he would do I thought Landry's "F bomb" speech was cringe worthy - could almost hear the thoughts of others in the the room shut the F up and sit down. Same with Greggo - how honestly could anyone be motivated to play for that a-hole. He's up there bloviating and you know everyone is just thinking "Shut the F up you pretentious blustering man-boobed blowhard". Dorsey just rubs me the wrong way for some reason. On the preview for next week there's a quick clip of "Former first round pick gets traded" Coleman looks to be frustrated talking to a coach - will be interesting if there was some confrontation related to the trade or it was just some unrelated footage they threw in there. -

Bills trade with Browns for Corey Coleman

I went to three practices last week and Foster is the one who stood out to me over all those guys. A media guy tweets something about Foster not holding onto the ball after Bush makes a great play to strip him and suddenly he's having a bad camp. What I don't get is the Reilly love honestly. He was invisible to me those three days. Also don't get Kerley honestly - dude is so tiny can't imagine him surviving in the slot -
My observations - Tre White LOVES to dance on the sideline - Tre shut down Benjamin times I saw them 1-1 - Vontae Davis was really playing with an edge tonight - Rafael Bush stood out with big plays - Still can't get over how small Kerley is - John Miller looks like rectangular cuboid cut from granite, Star looks very fit to me - no big belly etc - If Cam Phillips is out for any time with injury would be a shame - was making some plays this week - Croom has also stood out this week - No way Taiwan Jones makes this team with other RBs stepping up - I think Foster is for real and makes the team - Josh showed some wheels on his 80 yd scramble that didn't count - They certainly didn't script this practice with excitement for the fans in mind - Reminds me of a comment someone working at SJF said in a discussion yesterday - they said McD really is much more focused on actual practice effectiveness/efficiency at camp than 'fan experience' - Refs definitely were in pre-pre-season form, completely missed that kid dropped the interception - what were they seeing?! Badly blown call

Bills' 2018 Training Camp Practice Day 7
stevewin replied to 26CornerBlitz's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Had VIP tickets for this practice - after it was over Allen came over to sign at the VIP tent fence. While my son was getting his autograph, I was fumbling with my phone trying to quickly get to the camera for a pic - I missed it when he was actually signing for my son, then figured I'd at least get my son in the foreground with Allen in the background signing for the next person. He saw what I was doing and actually stopped what he was doing and moved over to pose for a pic with my son and Dad. It was the perfect ending for the day. I know these guys are told to try to be patient and accommodating with the fans - but that one small gesture really struck me. He couldn't have been nicer and more accommodating, after a long practice and facing a full gauntlet of waiting fans - taking that little extra time to create a special moment for us, when he didn't have to. I'm rooting even harder for the guy now.- 122 replies

DR Goes Camping (Practice #6 Report)
stevewin replied to Deranged Rhino's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Didn't see this thread initially - re-posting some of my random observations from today here: Went to camp today. Didn't spend a ton of effort trying to focus on anything/everything - just a few general observations - Tremaine Edmunds is huge. I mean like a giant. When the defense is lined up it is as if you are playing Madden and there some kind of new setting (GIANT) that makes a player blow up cartoonishly to twice the size of everyone else. It's hard not to look out onto the field and notice him standing out every time. It's like he's been CGI'ed onto the field. Between my son and my Dad and myself, one of us must have pointed to him on the field and said "Look at him - he's huge!" at least 10 different times throughout the course of practice - even just standing next to people on the sideline. It is crazy His interception was a great moment. A great play on the ball and he got mobbed by his D teammates celebrating just bonkers afterwards - On the flip side - I was not prepared at all for how small Kerley was - like real small. Honestly just seeing him today I felt I would be surprised if he ended up being any kind of impact player - but it was just one day. Still couldn't get over how small he was - for some reason I thought he was a bigger body slot guy - Foster just stood out to me for some reason - just looks the part of a real WR - Zay was sprinting full speed width-wise across the field for a bit. Didn't look limited at all - nothing on his knee. He was being worked hard by the trainers - part of me wondered if they weren't unofficially giving him a little extra sauce for his transgressions - This to me was definitely a practice where the old "defensive is ahead of the offense" was certainly true. The defense dominated in my view - the offense could get nothing going regardless of the QB/group. Offense looked pretty sloppy - rushed plays, dropped passes, only short gains when there were gains. Again hard to gauge at this point what percentage is defense playing well vs. offense playing poor EDIT: There was a portion of practice where the offense was running through plays with no defense (while the defense was on the other side of the field simulating getting lined up and back on the ball against a hurry-up offense). At one point I also wondered if part of the issues of the offense today was that they maybe they went deeper into the playbook and were running some of the plays live for the first time. Note also there was a portion where the defense purposely had two Dlinemen sit and not rush - and generally the offense still had problems completing passes in that drill - At times the defense was imposing their will so badly I told my son the offense needs to just air some balls out just to get the D off them a bit. One of Allen's last reps he went to throw a quick out and immediately faked it and pulled it in and took off the other way down the field untouched. We weren't sure if that was a called play or he did it himself - but it was obvious the D was really selling out going downhill all the way for this practice - None of the QBs looked great (see defense dominated bullet above), but AJ looked to me to be the most steady/consistent of the 3 today. Mostly a lot of short stuff - but that is pretty much all anyone could muster against the D. He just seemed in control. Allen had the barely missed flea flicker, and seemed kind of off rhythm most of the day. With the threes, you can see sometimes guys are not really helping him at all. With the ones, it almost seemed he wasn't on the same page/comfort level most of the time - seems like with the lower reps with the ones he also has to battle the unfamiliarity of playing with them. At times when Peterman throws he looks like he is heaving a soggy overripe watermelon. When the QB's are throwing side by side it is amazing to see the difference between Allen's ball and Peterman's when they are together - at one point my son pointed over to the drill and remarked how much faster Allen's ball got there compared to Peterman's - After practice the entire OL stayed on the field for a long time going through things. The three QBs also stayed on the field - Allen and Peterman throwing and AJ frolicking with his toddler - and wife . Off on the far side practice field two lone players went off by themselves to hit the sled. One was Mat Boesen - and he came back after a while. There was another guy over there that at first I didn't pay attention to - but after a while every once in a while I would look over and it was ridiculous he was still over there by himself just punishing a sled over and over - and I looked closer and saw his number was twenty something and I'm like wait - is that a friggin DB? It was number 21 in your programs. Poyer must have been over there by himself for a good 15 minutes just launching himself into a sled. After a bit, Siran Neal went over to join him - then they eventually quit. Seeing Poyer do that today really stuck with me - the guy was just killing it after a full practice - punishing his body off on a side field mostly by himself where no one could see it (it wasn't for show). It was pretty impressive - My son positioned himself above the tunnel after practice, and when Beane walked out my son yelled "UNCW!" (Beane's alma mater and where my son went to school the last two years - actually my son met him there this Spring) and Beane immediately looked up and my son tossed him his hat and Beane signed and threw it back. My son then yelled "Go Seahawks!" which Beane smiled at, but earned my son some quizzical stares from those around him in the crowd (UNCW Seahawks!) He also got Proehl to sign after tossing it to him - my daughter goes to UNC and now my son has a hat with Bills UNC/UNCW related sigs - There was a group of 20-somethings trolling Rodak after practice - they kept shouting his name across the field as the press was gathered for on field interviews - "RODAK!" - "I know you can hear me!" - and maybe threw a "Patriot lover!" or two in there. It was pretty awkward/funny - There was a female fan in the stands with a sign screaming for Poyer after practice. He was off on the other field after practice as I said, but as things were really winding down, out of nowhere Poyer came out of the tunnel with his shirt off - looking for the lady - someone must have said something to him about her. He jumped up on the rail and gave her a shirtless hug and took a pic with her. Was a very cool moment. Edited 1 hour ago by stevewin -

Bills injury updates - Training Camp/Preseason
stevewin replied to YoloinOhio's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I don't like the potential karmic consequences of this thread -
- Both articles mention the Allen issues with short throws while moving. Would think/hope the coaches would have him doing tons of reps on his own to correct his foot positioning etc to make it second nature - This is the first time I saw that Jones' knee injury is actually related to his "incident" - deep laceration below kneecap. Can understand how McD would be annoyed - I also learned that the Bills have a player named Xavier Woodson-Luster on their TC roster
-
I completely missed this thread and the article when it came out and just read it. A really good read for those who missed it - goes into much more detail than the BN step by step article. It's interesting to see all the planning and due diligence that went into it - starting a year in advance, but yet still with all that planning have a scenario pop up for Edmunds that they had never even considered (Beane even says he made a "mistake" by not considering still having pick 22 and trading up). Regardless - think it shows a masterful job by Beane from start to finish. Thought it was also interesting that Beane characterizes the first meeting with Allen as "tough" - that Allen was "super nervous" and "trying too hard" - but then by the next meeting it was a 180 and Allen was calm and confident. Also good to see again the positives they saw lin Allen ive with attitude/leadership etc

[Update: SIGNED!] When does Josh Allen Sign his contract

This is one of those instances I feel strongly it is appropriate to start a new thread when the topic goes from speculation to actual closure. I hate having to go back pages in a thread and find when the new development broke. -
- How much weight have you lost I'm down 50 lbs or so. the first 20 came off quick and the next 30 or so I had to work for. Now I'm having to get all my clothes tailored - Neck injury Got my first stinger of my life this year in week 5 against the Bengals and got another one the following week. We didn't think anything of it - I got an X-ray that checked out pretty well, I just went on playing. I got a bunch more stingers as the season went on - which is pretty common among football players. After the season my wife was due with our second child and I said I've got to get out of here - rush me through my end of year physical and clear me for the Pro Bowl and let's go. And they said well let's talk about that neck a little more - so they talked me into getting an MRI on the way out of town. An hour before my son was born I get the call that my career was over. At that point you start going hey, we'll reach out for more opinions and we'll see and he said Eric we've already reached out for opinions but you're welcome to - so we did, and any surgery that would have taken the disk off my spinal cord would have also made me not pass a physical again, which essentially ended my career - How are you processing now that some time has passed I'm all right. It feels weird not prepping for training camp, and it feels weird scheduling things past the middle of July. Usually that's a shut down date - July 20th get ready to drive up to Buffalo and get ready for the season. It's different - there are days I feel some anxiety like man I should be doing something, I should be prepping to play ball. That's all I've worked for the last 14-15 years. But I'm enjoying more time with family. We have two young kids like I said, so I'm enjoying this time because at some point I'm going to be working and I'm going to wish I cherished these days probably a little more - Bills fans They made a name for themselves. Social media has amped it up, and now it's become a competition like what next can we do - they're getting lit on fire and jumping through tables I mean it's insane. But they're also passionate, they stand behind us, they stood behind us all the way through that drought. And nothing will probably stand out to me more than when we came back from Miami on New Year's eve and they ditch their plans and wait in the freezing cold for our plane to come in to give us a cheer when we come off the plane. And when I say freezing I mean freezing temperatures and snowing and their standing out there just to welcome us back. Wild and crazy but also extremely passionate. You've seen what they did for Dalton's foundation - they've been extremely supportive of what I've done over the years. They're a great group of people - they like to have fun up there too. - Kyle Williams TD It was awesome. That was a play we literally ran one time during a walk through. Never rehearsed. That game wasn't completely out of hand, not like it was a token play in a blow out game. Luckily the Dline ran an out charge and me and Richie fall on our face and Kyle just kind of falls over the top of us and it works out perfect. To end the drought and have so much fun doing it and with that group of guys was so special. I had nightmares of playing my whole career in Buffalo and never making the playoffs. that's part of the reason I signed before the eaon last year as opposed to hitting free agency for the first time in my career was because I couldn't move on from Buffalo and not end that drought. - Eric Wood foudation Will keep it in Buffalo and keep it going Good (but quick) interview. Surprised they waited until after the season to order the MRI - not sure if that will undergo any scrutiny

Calling out a player's name and why.....
stevewin replied to The Process's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
When we played street football when I was a kid, when we tried to stretch out over the curb and and tap our toes to catch a pass, we'd yell "Bobby Chandler!" if we were able to lay out and make the catch -

Years ago there used to be a very compelling video on youtube a private investigator made going through all the points of why it was Jason. I can never find it anymore. I believe OJ was at the scene - but during/after Jason butchered them - which is why there is also evidence tying OJ to the scene -
