It’s very telling about our offense that Diggs wanted out. Feels like we were going to get a 1st round receiver and he didn’t like losing his target share

I wonder if was more simply that Diggs didn't like Allen getting all the attention and being the face of the franchise.   He felt he should be  getting more credit.  Add to that less targets.

Yeah, this really is part of it.

How come the Chiefs D couldn't even begin to shut Allen down the last four or five drives? He was simply playing too well, out of his mind.

Same with the Chiefs as well.

Still, you'd think they could have gotten a kick squibbed. How come the kicking team clearly thought it was a squib and were shocked when it went in the end zone.

But both offenses were simply playing offense as well as it could be played. If we'd won that coin flip, we'd have won that game.

When I first saw the title of the thread I was hoping that Poyer was going to explain what happened on the kick, but not a word about that.  To me that is the bigger question mark in that whole situation.  As someone else in the thread pointed out the Pats scored a TD with 16 seconds left so really hard to say the played the wrong defense.  But a squib kick would have eaten into that time.

In the thread on the new kickoff rules I questioned with the new rules will squib kicks even be done anymore and probably not as technically the ball first touched the ground in what do they call it the dead zone??  As a result believe the receiving team would now have the ball at the 40 so doubtful they'd be done anymore??

Poyer: " and you just see really how much more like connected [the Chiefs were] and they were just way better than us in that time."

Why were the Chiefs so much better than us in that time ?

    The buck stops at McDermott.

    He's the HEAD coach !

Maybe coaching yes, but did you ever consider he was also saying the players were all better?  But I get it, that wouldn't fit your narrative.

  4. Naw! If we're going secondary in round 1, the guy I want is the CB from Alabama.  He's listed as going in the late 20's so not a reach and likely different folks will have him ranked all over the place.  Josh Allen was ranked all the way from #1 overall to a 4th rounder.

But I want this guy so we can say we have a CB named Kool Aid on the team!

  5. As long as NBC is wiling to pay them likely even more than they'd get for putting game on regular TV, not a really a big issue for NFL.  Yes they'd like higher viewership, but more importantly is the money they are getting.

And as other have commented, there are plenty other games on platforms other than broadcast, so just one more.

Like the Bills paid for Trent Murphy?

Name me one team that hasn't way overpaid for a FA that turned out not nearly as well as he was paid.  Redskins of 20 years ago probably led the league in terrible contracts.

I too am surprised he got this much considering 2nd injury in 2 years, both involving leg area for a CB doesn't sound like good combination.

I think you can make the case that our 22 starters are already on the roster.

There's also no doubt we can still upgrade at several spots.

Who are you comfortable with starting and where do you want to see us upgrade?

WR- 99% of us want the Bills to take a WR in Rd 1 to be the WR2 and eventual WR1. Do the Bills see it that way or are they good with Shakir/Samuels/Holllins?

LG- Good with Edwards starting? I think so. Rest of unit is solid.

DE- As of two months ago Von could barely move. The hope is he can contribute next year but I doubt he ever gets back to a starting role. AJE is better suited as a depth piece. If they don't go WR in Rd 1 DE is the only other position that makes sense. We could definitely use an upgrade here.

SS- Whether you like it or not I think it's safe to assume Rapp will be starting.

FS- Id prefer Edwards be in a backup role, but also don't love a backup S making $2.8M+. Probably role with him as the starter for this year and draft a guy in the middle rounds to compete and hopefully take over in 2025. Would have preferred they found a way to free up some extra dough for Blackmon.

We are in pretty good shape heading into the draft.

While I agree the players are all solid, do have some concern with McGovern playing center.  Like safety, think the Bills will also draft an interior lineman who can play center in mid rounds to possibly take over in 2025

Is this true prior to the hammy? Perhaps I've just forgotten.

The last 3 or 4 weeks of season he kicked decent, before that was never great

Bass's problems did not include his holder

And you know this how exactly?

  9. 46 minutes ago, buffblue said:

I hope not. It would be ridiculous if they keep Haack purely for Bass because he stinks as a punter compared to Martin. Bass o matic just needs to get it together.

That's kind of like saying on a scale of 1 to 10 with 10 being the worst, Haack is a 2 and Martin is a 3 and it's not a log scale either.  All I remember last season was all the complaints about what a poor punter Martin was.

Shaq Lawson replacement. Probably/hopefully on a non-qualifying Comp deal.

I was going to say the opposite a Lawson compliment as Lawson is good against run, but bad a pass rusher

i dont buy into the rule you downgrade next years pick

is next years #1 worth less than this years #1 ? (only if some generational QB was avail in either)

is next years #28 overall worth less than this years #28 ?.....i say no, they are equal

Whether you buy it or not doesn't matter, it's what the front office believe in and I've read more than once that is how they view it.

Yes next years #28 is worth just as much as this years.  But the reason they downgrade a round is because you have no idea why pick you're really getting.  Houston got this year 11th pick in the 2nd round from Vikes, next year it could be a top 5 or it could be #20.  So for that reason is why it's downgraded.  You also have no idea how the value of the draft will be the following year, it could be better,or it could be worse.

Maybe a full round is too steep a discount, but there has to be a haircut of some value taken for the unknown of what you're actually getting

I think Micah is done but I'd still take him back cheap for a year based on what it looks like we might be starting at safety eeek!

The fact that so far nothing has happened does make me wonder a bit if either he told his agent not to shop him as is leaning towards retiring or did the Bills give him a number and he's looking around to see if he can do better elsewhere, if not will be back?  That was more typical of how things went in prior years, a couple weeks after FA started, the player came back and signed once he found he couldn't do any better.

I see post too about Packers interested, could be he does sign there as played there prior, though doubt many from the team he played on is still there or trying to drive Bills to increase contact??

  13. 34 minutes ago, Process said:

That seems like bad value for Houston, no? What do the charts say? Go from 23 to 42 for basically just a second round pick next year

I come up with Texans giving up 780 and gets back about 680 points assuming using the "rule" that you downgrade a pick in following year by one round level and I assumed Viking finish next year around middle of draft.  If you don't downgrade a round, then Vikes gave up almost 900 points, so putting it in the middle of those two scenarios says it's about even??

So adding to that, they could now trade their 11th and 23rd to move up to #4.  Looks like they don't have a 3rd rounder so can't get much higher unless they make another trade to get a pick(s)

They still got a number of guys back … and may not be finished yet re-signing people

Obviously this is the tightest year for Beane to date…and most of the other teams got a late “windfall “  with the increased cap…so there is more money to throw around this year …

Maybe previously loyal guys that have been here a while  like Dodson and Jackson get given a “ depth” number that could be a fallback if they don’t get another gig… but both of them got starter money elsewhere … Maybe Neal just got more money from Miami..

No doubt one year only  guys like Sherfield  and Poona Ford only get “good luck “ on their way out the door …

All true.  Seems like they brought back more of the guys with expired contracts more quickly too than in prior years.  Makes me wonder if Beane had more a hard list this year.  These are the guys we want, and told the others more straight up, you're not in our plans so they quickly moved on??

The one name out there that fits priors years mold is Hyde.  Does make me wonder a bit if either he told his agent not to shop him as is leaning towards retiring or did the Bills give him a number and he's looking around to see if he can do better elsewhere, if not will be back?  That was more typical of how things went in prior years, a couple weeks after FA started, the player came back and signed.

  15. Do find one thing interesting as more of the Bills FA are signing with other teams.  In past years, seemed like many hoped for a big pay day someplace else, but in the end signed back in Buffalo.

Makes me wonder if other years, Beane would tell these guys we're interested in you at $XX salary so if you don't get what you want elsewhere, get back to me.  This year did he tell more of them, sorry you're just not in our plans.

Diggs, Shakir, Hollins, Samuel, Shorter…even Kincaid (WR/TE). Nice WR room.

Face it…we need an interior O lineman or a safety.

    Deal with it.

Not sure if this is sarcasm or not, but do agree with this to a point.  Don't think it's the 6th round, but do feel there are higher priorities than WR at this point.  There's only one ball to go around and only 11 players on the field.  If we were playing fantasy football then the more weapons the better.  Put another star WR out there, just means less catches for Diggs or Kincaid , or someone else.

I'd go DL in 1st, then CB and WR in some order, after that followed by center.   Not sure if the Bills will sign Douglas next year to extension as may feel rather extend Benford and then have a 2nd year CB on other side.
