Elam inactive? Did they sign Xavier Rhodes or something?..

I'm guessing it's more a case that most injuries are on offense so need extra bodies there and Elam is sitting due to numbers.  Haven't seen the active roster link yet, but could be they are dressing an extra WR more than normal?

Ed, your Dolphin hatred is deep.

As a Bills fan it is kind of a turn on.  I believe I can even smell your manly musk through the speakers of my computer, and I must profess a willingness to follow you to the four corners of hell carrying a six pack if you so desire.

Well done, Sir.  Well done indeed.

    Go Bill!

I really don't have a hatred for the Dolphins.  I just find the idea of the players always talking about popping out the champagne once the last un defeated team loses a game rather obnoxious.  Add to that I did find that team extremely boring.  They were truly the last 3 yards and a cloud of dust offense.  So really my dislike is 100% directed at the players on the 72 team and maybe any fans that join in their yearly celebration.

  3. If the Chiefs get to the SB and are 18-0, I will root for them to win it as I'm really sick of hearing about the 72 Dolphins every year.  To me that 72 team was the most boring football team of all time.

BTW, I rooted for NE in 2008 for the same reason, to shut up the 72 team.

I’m holding out hope that Curtis starts being a contributor. Usually it takes until November to integrate a new receiver. In his defense he’s had the turf toe which is a tough injury for receivers and Josh does not have the trust in him which translates to targets. The next game should feature Samuel, Shakir and Knox along with Cook, Davis and Johnson(who makes plays every time he hits the field).

At this point I think I'd favor Hollins over Samuel as Allen seems to be more on the same page with him.  Maybe problem was Samuel missed too much of training camp to be that effective??  Also read one article that stated once Kinkaid got hurt the Bills ran almost exclusive 11 personal the rest of the game.

Hoping that either Cooper of Coleman will play next week.

Can someone link where the Bills said "THis was going to be a rebuild year".  That is just what some media and fans thought IMO.

Have you ever in any sport  in particular football heard the front office come out and state this is a rebuilding year?  So yes this is what the fans and media stated, but based on actions of the team and basic understanding of what they are seeing.

If this wasn't a rebuilding or retooling year, then I assume you must have felt this was a SB winning team?   And let me guess if they don't win the SB, you'll be one of the first to post how McD and Beane need to be fired for not winning it it again.

A rebuild year is when you tear the entire house down. This year is changing the drapes (Diggs) and replacing the old carpets (Morse, Poyer, Hyde, Tre)

Agree except the Bills replaced custom designed drapes and carpet that broke with new ones bought at Walmart, but the new ones are just meant for short term use until they really find what they are looking for in longer term replacements!    So yes just replacement, but not close to the same quality level.  For that reason as the OP stated, the team and coaching and management do deserve more credit than you're giving them.

For those same reason I wasn't in favor of spending much money on spending much money on short term replacements at the trade deadline.

Maybe, but 1T is the bigger hole currently. At least we have some youth and capable bodies at edge in Soloman and Epenesa, and Rousseau is near elite as a LE. Daquan looks washed and it's compromising everything down the line. Oliver has to take on double teams. You can't rush when you're being rushed on, etc.

I'm not opposed to going Edge early in the draft if someone we like falls to us, but we shouldn't be mortgaging our future on it imo.

Edit: one thing I will say in AJ's defense is he's a decent run defender. Given our issues stopping the run this year, he's actually one of the few guys who's helping.

    Move him to CB

As absurd as it sounds, a common refrain on the Dolphins forum is how the refs/NFL are working against them. Some even blamed their loss to the Bills on the refs.

Lolphins fans are some of the worst in the league, imo.

Sounds just like many posters here.  If the Bills had lost the game, there would be 10X the threads and posts about the calls.  And I'm sure the Miami fans would all call the Bills fans the worst too.

Agree he's got bad blood towards the Bills organization.

Not sure that means he was aiming for the head and trying to hurt our players, or just extra motivated to make a huge play.  Hopefully it was the latter.

Playing safety in the NFL has to be tough.  Coleman was probably going to catch that pass if he didn't make a huge hit, and that likely meant the Bills were going to be in field goal position to win the game.

So here's a frame of Poyer about 12 to 15 inches asway before he hits Coleman, likely as he claimed would have resulted in a hit to his chest.  But then Coleman came down and even though one foot was already on the ground, his upper body dropped a good foot and now resulting in Poyer hitting him in the head.

Coleman certainly didn't deliberately lower his head  or even thought about lowering his head, but that was the result, the head dropped.  Could you argue Poyer should have anticipated his head lowering, in that split second, that would be hard to think about and adjust for that.

It was somewhat similar to the play earlier in the game where the Bills player got called for a hit to the head and even the announcers were saying how the receiver lowered his head, but the call typically always goes against the defensive player.

  10. Assuming the Bill's beat the Chiefs, there's very few teams who have gone 16-1 so whether they lose to Denver or whenever, they will lose another game or two.  But likely so will the Bills.

Ask yourself this, last year at Thanksgiving, how many people thought the Bills would get the #2 overall seed?

  11. I believe his future is to play strong safety, not FS, so he isn't really geared to replace Hamlin.  As been stated he missed much of training camp, so now not only are some asking him to start, but also now to jump over and play FS which very likely in the limited time he's practiced was at SS.  But hey why not.

Reading some of the responses, we probably shouldn't even have a user forum because no matter what is posted, the Beane/McD haters can somehow make this into it's all their fault, they suck!

  12. Many times I've heard the argument that they want officials who have high paying jobs like bank presidents, school board superintendent, attorneys, etc. so they are not going to be tempted to take a bribe.  The problem with that argument is that even if you are in one of the type of job positions I mention, there's too much in the game today to not still be offered a bribe that could easily double your salary.

40 to 50 years ago too people in these positions were often making close to as much money as some of these players, now it doesn't come close.  Recall reading how in 60's and earlier, players would take jobs in the off season in construction or something to make some extra cash to tide them over.

The other issue today to is 50 years ago people in these positions would work a 9 to 5 job and just like Ward Cleaver, come home.  Now folks in these jobs are going into work at 8:00 and may not leave the office until 7:00 at night, when not traveling half way around the world for business so little time for them to study or review the rules.

So yes I agree need full time officials with extra crews so can easily and quickly replace or suspend someone when needed.

Daboll wasn't a hot commodity in 2022.  He got a couple interviews for jobs he wasn't getting.   He only got the Giants job because they had already hired a GM from Buffalo's front office.   Daboll had a LONG history of producing terrible offense's and subsequent firings as an NFL OC.  Including the 2018 sh!t show in Buffalo that was the lowest scoring offense the NFL had seen thru 8 games since the AFL/NFL merger.   When he's been bad he's been horrible.   Ben Johnson's trajectory has been nothing but upward.

Regardless it proves nothing to the point that Ben Johnson will be a great HC.  There's a long list of similar failures.

  14. 7 minutes ago, HappyDays said:

Daboll has never been a great OC at any point in his career. Ben Johnson transformed Goff into a top 10 QB and has built the most dominant offense in the league. And the offense has gotten better and better each year so it's not a flash in the plan. The respective resumes of those coaches are not close IMO.

If Daboll was so bad, why was he a hot commodity for a HC job back then and everyone here was talking about how we're going to lose him at year end?  The Bills also improved when Daboll was here.  And BTW getting better each year, this is only year 3 for Johnson so hold the brakes a bit on that.  If after 5 years straight they improve, then yes can agree not a flash in the pan. 3 years is pushing it!.   The Lions also were also real bad for a number of years prior, so helped them get many high draft picks, won 10 games in 3 years total prior.

I have a friend who is a rabid Bengals fan and he says there is a vocal contingent of Bengals fans who are fed up with Taylor and screaming for his head.

The grass is always greener. Those calling for McDermott to be fired seldom name the coach they think is going to come in and instantly win a Super Bowl. When the do give a name it's as much wishful thinking as analysis: they completely discount those many things that McDermott does that are hard to come by in a coach, somehow expecting this new guy to have all those qualities plus never make a mistake and never have his kicker miss a tying field goal in a playoff game.

Well many say Ben Johnson and just make this assumption that because he is a very good to great OC, he'll be a great HC  (just like Daboll) And assume as long as you have a great QB which we do, a good OC will take care of the rest.  All he needs to do is "roll the balls out" as they say in basketball.

if you remember, the bucs had dungy who built them up but could not get them over the hump, they ditched him for gruden.  gruden won a chip for them, and dungy went on to win a chip for the colts.  some times you just need to change what isn't working.  philly had ried but never got over the hump and won their first chip after bringing in a new coach too.

Sure that can happen.  But when factor in McD's record, it's one of the best in the league so the odds on being able to improve on that has a very low chance probability wise.

People say we should bring in Ben Johnson that would improve things.  How is Johnson any better than Daboll was 3 years ago when the Giants hired him.  How's that worked out?  Easy to blame it on the QB, but there's been too many Daboll blow ups, issues that tells me he's a great coordinator, but not a good HC.  If this was an argument the Bengals were making, outside of the one year they went to the SB, could argue the other years Taylor's record hasn't been that great so could argue, there is a much better chance of improvement than here.  Same could be said about McVey in LA, one year great, but other than that, last time I checked slightly worse record than Buffalo.

Look at how many teams hire new coaches and it doesn't work out, many more than do work out for the better.

But that’s not a unique situation. They constantly start the year underperformed and behind the 8 ball.

Not defending McD here, but Burrow and Zac Taylor are running a LOT of mileage out of that single SB run 4 years ago.

In most cases Taylor would be fired after this season, but that's the one advantage of working for a cheap owner.  Look how long he kept Lewis. The trick in Cinny is to win in the last year of your contract, that gets you re-signed and even if you lose after that, you're safe until the contract runs out.

Speaking of Lewis, is he working anywhere in the league, kind of a name that has vanished
