That's correct, back then players just got their bell rung.

Even the 90's!  I'm pretty certain at the end of the Giants Bills SB, Kelly got concussed.  It forced the Bills to take a TO, likely if that hadn't happened they would have had another TO left towards end, likely could have ran a couple more plays, maybe got another 1st down and got closer for the FG

Not sure they have the flexibility to make any Practice Squad moves at CB either way.  Only two players can get called up in a single week.

With Gabe Davis already out and Stefon Diggs injured, they will almost certainly use one of those spots on a wide receiver.  Probably Andy Isabella.  Otherwise we go into the game pretty short-handed at WR.

The other call-up will either be a Linebacker (AJ Klein) or a punter (Matt Hauck).  If for some reason they don't call up Klein, that would be a huge indicator that Terrell Bernard plays.  If they need both spots, then don't be surprised if they put Sam Martin on IR.

Unfortunately, if Taron Johnson doesn't play...we are probably looking at them shuffling around the entire back-end.  Some combination of Cam Lewis, Siran Neal and Damar Hamlin rotating around the safety/slot CB roles.  And then Jordan Poyer moving up to coverage linebacker at times.

I'm not saying call up, I'm saying cut or place someone on IR from the active 53, then sign someone from PS to an actual contract.

The way I see it, the Bills could cut other players (and have them clear onto the PS) before taking a chance with the LBs that leaves

Spector the opportunity to be available next week.  Guys like Morris, Jonathan and an OL guy can accomplish the same purpose.

These guys are not under rookie contracts.

I see the odds of a Spector cut almost at zero.  Signing an FA to replace Spector (if he is available next week) doesn't make sense to me.

Never said cut Spector, I said IR him.  If Dodson and/or Bernard are back for the AFC title game, would they even need Spector then?  I thought I recalled a few weeks back when none of the LB's were out besides Milano, was Spector even dressing on Sunday??

You can only call up 2 players. with Gabe out you figure one of them is isabella. The other might have to be a punter.

I think the team will need to use its 2 call-ups on AJ Klein and Haack.

I think they likely want a WR as well, so they may need to cut someone or IR someone from the 53 man roster.  I'm kind of wondering if Baylon Spector is a candidate for IR?

Does anyone know what the procedure is - if someone is cut from the roster, can another remaining team put in a waiver claim?  Can any of the 32  teams claim them?

That would make alot of sense as even if Benford or Dodson can't play this week, assuming they win likely by next week one of them would be back, so the need for Spector drops off a fair amount anyway.  Worse case, they probably could sign a FA if new injuries popped up this week.

Believe they can they still cut someone as late as Sunday morning and sign someone off PS?

  4. Somewhat interesting comment in todays Kubiak column in BN about Allen on the 52 yard TD run.  So it's not a fake slide as much as defenses think he's going to and let up.  Does give him an advantage as if teams say I'm going to go after him hard they risk he does slide and then a penalty, but nothing illegal either by Allen.

He almost did slide on the play and then decided to see if he could get a little more. I believe Allen was surprised at the lack of effort in bringing him to the ground and that also might have been because the Steelers anticipated a slide.

  5. I'd like to keep one of them, since Poyer is still under contract, may be easier financially to keep him.  My main reason to keep one is would rather not go through going pains of having two new safeties in one season.  Draft a rookie fairly high for one spot, keep Poyer and then draft another one or sign a FA in 2025 to replace Poyer

A lot of coaches call timeouts before plays in big situations just like Sean

It happened in multiple playoff games this weekend... It's not just Sean thing

    Funny you should say that...

In yesterdays Athletic there was a write on this in the weekly "Pick Six" column  It shows that coaches call around 20% of their TO's with more than 5 minutes left in game.  McD made the list, but many other what are considered good to very good coaches also made the list.

Interesting... wonder if he got upset about not being activated for yesterday's game and started making waves?

Could be, then add to that they may already have a pretty good idea they will have 2 other PS callups this week due to injury shortages elsewhere. Klein likely will be again this week, and maybe Andy I or a CB

  8. 2 to 3 feet predicted, so a dusting!

Think a big issue with the game was all the police, ambulances, etc needed for a game.  Holding practice, not an issue. players just need to be able to get from their homes to 1 Biils Drive.  Squirrel may be providing taxi service to the practice field.

Yea which I also find kind of strange…Josh was pretty good in 2 of those 3 losses.  I think it’s the turnover narrative working against him more than anything

Yeah that's likely a big part of it and many are really bad throws into double coverage.  Even in the final Miami game the 1st one was like what is he thinking. and the 2nd one had a guy open right away in flat which would have been enough for 1st down, but didn't take then throws int in endzone.

Which part? Lol I’d agree mvp voting doesn’t work that way those are just general comments.  It probably should but it never will.  Feels like it’s part popularity contest and part comparing stat sheets

Agree with that part, but also add in third part, number of wins.  Think it may be different too if Bills had lost 3 games instead to KC, Dallas, and Miami  good playoff teams instead of Jax, NE, and Denver . Add to that the Int's Allen through in those games hurt his chances.

I assumed the rule is that if the fumbling player touches the ball while he is OOB, then ball is considered OOB and play is dead.

If that’s the rule, it’s a stupid rule.

it should be if the player possess the ball and he is OOB, then ball is OOB.

But what if a player is clearly standing up out of bounds a bouncing ball hits him the chest and now goes back into field of play.  If it hadn't hit him it would have landed 5 feet OB, but now it's a live ball.  So to make the rule simple, if it's touched by a player OB, the ball is OB

A play can be both DH and PI.
If the player starts holding before the ball is thrown, and continues the hold while ball is in the air, it is both DH and PI. In this play, the refs got it right. The uncatchable ball negated the PI but not the DH.

Understand, but then why did it take so long to figure out?  The way the whole thing went down it didn't have good optics if you were a Steelers fan.  This thread was about how the officiating went against the Bills, I'm just giving the OP examples of how from the Steelers side, the opposite was true.

I really think he’s rewriting the analytics of football.  He’s so good at picking spots to take shots where even an INT doesn’t hurt terribly this season that it kind of makes me chuckle when people just talk about his total INT number.  Not all ints are created equal

hes giving his guys shots to make plays for pretty low risk on the majority of his ints it feels like

Bills had the worst defense in the league for that stretch you mentioned…that jags game decimated the team until Douglas got acclimated and righted the ship a little bit

send Lamar’s number 1 ranked defense on a 1 month vacation and he’d have less wins too

Yeah but that's not how the world works.

That DH was absolutely a penalty. The refs just had to decide if it was going to be PI or DH. They made the right call as the ball was so far out of bounds, but it doesn't negate the holding or illegal contact after 5 yards.

Agree it was a penalty, but then why did it take so long to figure out?  My thinking was the official planned to call PI, but they realized that wasn't going to go over well so came up with plan B.

Jerry "Freakin" Rice never won a regular season MVP.

Drew Brees, Randy Moss, and Roger Staubach did not either.

Yes, the Super Bowl win and SB MVP is most important.

Still, I am wondering who can honestly vote for Lamar Jackson to win a 2nd MVP when Josh Allen is significantly more valuable than Lamar.

And, it is just criminal if Lamar had 2 MVP's when the two best WR's (imo) did not win one combined in Rice and Moss.

I'm sure all the fans in Baltimore would agree with you.

The simple question to answer is if Josh Allen is significantly more valuable, why did he manage to lose two more games and likely had been three if last game mattered to Ravens.  Take the Denver, NE, Jax games.  If the Bills had won two of them good chance then Allen would be the MVP.

  16. As Gene S the rules expert stated on the air, don't get hung on the exact words of "the ball was fumbled out of bounds." Did the Steeler players helmet glance off it.  Did I clearly see it hit the helmet no, but can't say it didn't wither.   The replay wasn't clear enough to say for certain, so without being able to answer that question it goes back to has to be clear evidence to overturn.  It's one of those plays where if they had ruled Bills ball, it never would have been over turned the other way either.

Should they have given a better explanation, yes I agree there and probably in a couple days will read somewhere what it was.

But there were also a number of calls that went against Pitt that could have easily been called.  If I were a Steeler fan II'd be furious on that DH call that went against them late.  The announcers were all saying, the ball was un-catchable.  So the refs talked for about two minutes and figured out, lets change it from PI to DH, then the Steelers can't argue it couldn't be caught. To me the ball was in the air when contact was made which means the right call would be PI.

  17. I will say one thing about Diggs, I do think he is still a great WR, but is very comical to watch him try to block downfield.   If I were a defensive player and I had a choice between taking on Diggs or Allen to shed a block, I'd prefer taking on Diggs every time.

Agree.  What I will say, and I have been saying this for the last couple of seasons is that Beane and McDermott need to bring in camp competition

in both kicker and punter positions for multiple reasons.  I would like to see a new ST coordinator (or at least a new assistant with upside) too.

It's not wise to have these 2 guys kicking throughout the entire year with no one able to come in if needed.

Definitely agree on punter competition or just sign or draft someone who has better stats.

Kicking think it's hard to bring in competition for a guy who is 85% lifetime and is still pretty young so it's not like his leg has worn out.

Looking at the lifetime list there's not many kickers above him that either haven't long retired or active on another team.
