If Nabers is there I think a team with a ton of holes that need more picks like the Giants or Bears would make the deal with us.

    For #6 could probably go:

    2024 R1 (#28)

    2024 R4 (#128)

    2024 R5 (#144)

    2024 R6 (#189)

    2025 R1 (TBD)

    2025 R3 (TBD)

    2025 R4 (TBD)

Less obviously if it's for #9.

That leaves us with minimum 7 picks remaining this year (remember only 3 of our picks last year made the roster plus Shorter on "IR") plus 6 picks next year when our comp picks hit. And Josh gets a Ferrari on a rookie deal for the next five years. Everyone wins.

Yes only 3 plus Shorter made it, but the team only had 6 picks.  Plus all the top picks made the team.  Now you're leaving us with only a #1 and #2 this year and a #2 next year in the first 4 rounds, the rounds that most of the best players are chosen.    Actually they'd have one extra pick left at the bottom of the 4th.  Add to that the Bills have more roster holes this year than last to fill.

That'd be very risky however.  Trading out 28th and 60th for a single WR.  That would essentially relegate our draft after that to a bunch of day-3 picks.

There should be a decent WR, perhaps one that in other years would have gone earlier, availalble at 28th.  Then keep our 60th for an OT or C.

Someone here suggested Zach Frazier from WVU at C.  He seems as if he'd be a great pick at 60th in a spot of need.  C/G.

Not sure how we don't focus on the offense in rounds 1/2.

Agree I'd rather see them trade down to maybe around 35 and pick up a late 3rd or early 4th..

Somewhere between picks 4-8 Roger walks up to the microphone and announces:  We have a trade.  Buffalo has traded (a small boatload of picks) to (team to be named) and is now on the clock.  And we get one of the top 3 rated WRs in the draft.

Beane and McD have said they need to get more explosive.  And they’ll do that by getting more explosive with their moves to draft an explosive WR for Josh.

And then you wake up from your dream!!

If the Bills traded every pick they have this year, they wouldn't get even close to the #8 pick.  If they added in next years 2nd round they may get close to #8 along with every other pick this year.

The Bills can trade a boatload of their draft picks to move up from the 5th to maybe the top half of the 4th.

Maybe you should some research before posting.

Yeah, people who get worked up about that are hard to understand.

Considering the thread's title, I think he was being sarcastic.

    I could be wrong.

Yeah wasn't sure about that either.  But there certainly were many ripping Beane for letting him go so just as easily could have been serious too??

They re-signed Johnson today and Jackson has signed elsewhere.  I think the Lewis and Hollins signings make it very unlikely Neal returns, but you never know.  I didn't think Beane would find a way to get Jones & Epenesa back, but he did.

    Updated Roster:

Offense 17 of 23 players (roster allocation to the position from 2023 in (x)).

    QB (2) - current 2: Allen & Trubisky

    RB/FB (4) - current 3: Cook, Johnson & Gilliam

TE (3) - current 3: Kincaid, Knox, Morris

WR (5) - current 4: Diggs, Shakir, Hollins & Shorter (Hamler & Isabella in the mix)

Oline (9) - current 7: Brown, Dawkins, McGovern, Torrence, Edwards, Anderson & Van Denmark (Doyle still in the mix)

    Defense 18 of 25 players

Dline (10) - Current 6 - Jones, Oliver, Rousseau, Miller, Jonathan, & Epenesa (Cline and Ankou also in the mix)

    LBs (5) - current 5 - Milano, Benard, Williams, Morrow, & Spector

    CB (6) - current 4 - Johnson, Douglas, Benford, & Elam

    S (4) - Current 3 - Rapp, Hamlin, & Lewis (CB)

Specialists 4 of 3 slots - Bass (PK), Ferguson (LS), Martin (P) & Haack (P) - one of Haack or Martin aren't going to make the team.

Looks like there are 11 jobs still available - 1 RB, 1 (maybe 2) WR, 2 OL, 4 DL, 2 CB & 1 S.  My guess is 6-7 of these jobs will go to draft picks (WR, S, CB, OL, RB, 2DL?).  I'm happy about Ty Johnson coming back.

It looks like we are down to only 2 starting jobs available - WR2 and S.  Safety looks like the worst group position on the team with Rapp as a starter and Lewis and Hamlin as the depth.

I had wrote my post early Wednesday, since then Neal & Jackson both signed think was in Miami and Carolina respectively.

Pretty sure we’re talking about the same Kirk Cousins here. He’s nothing special. They’ll be just fine

Yeah the same Kirk Cousins who signed a 4 year $180 mil contract.  I guess I must have missed when Rosen and Zach Wilson signed similar deals.

While I agree Cousins isn't anything special he's still light years better than guys like Zack Wilson, Mack Jones or Josh Rosen and drafting a new QB leaving you with a good chance of getting someone just like them and then a team that in another 3 years will be drafting his replacement.

So the Vikes would be just fine with JJ and Zach Wilson at QB?

  6. I'd be fine with taking the guy but not trading up to do it.  IMO the Bills need to draft a WR, interior lineman, DT, and Safety all fairly high to assure they work out.  Trading up makes that really hard to do without having a 3rd to start with.  I'm more in favor of seeing them trade down from 28 to maybe the top of the 2nd and pick up a 3rd in the process.

I'm fine too with bundling all those 5th and 6th rounds together into 1 or maybe 2 more 4th rounders. You can get lucky and draft one in the 6th round who may become an all pro, but usually takes more time and the odds aren't good.

He’s the best WR in football. I’m pretty sure they’ll do alright. Along with just about any QB they find that will likely be just as good as Cousins.

so Zack Wilson, Mack Jones,or Josh Rosen are as good as Cousins??  You said they should raft a rookie QB instead, not me.  This was your plan!    So pairing JJ with Zack Wilson, or Mack Jones or Josh Rosen would have resulted in just as good of results you're saying??  Interesting!

Your idea is great as long as they draft another Josh Allen or Joe Burrow, but the problem is for every Allen and Burrow, there are about 5 Zak Wilsons drafted.

I love Diggs he’s been fantastic for us. But I’d be lying if I said I wasn’t a little bitter about how we essentially traded the best WR in the NFL who is considerably younger than Diggs as well.

The thought of Josh with an elite young WR is so tantalizing.

But I’m no longer bitter . Why? Because Jefferson wants more than $30 million per year . That’s insane money and he’s not 10+ million dollars worth more than Stef.

So how do you know they would have picked Jefferson?  In hindsight it's great, but for all we know, whomever they picked, could have been a flop

    3 hours ago, mrags said:

Yup. They’ll draft a young QB on a rookie pay scale and use that money for JJ. By the time the rookie needs a new contract JJ will be on the downward slope and things will work out naturally.

And the QB could be a Zack Wilson, or Mack Jones or Josh Rosen, or a number of other flop QB's.  Then you have nothing, need a new QB and a WR who wants out, but no team will trade for him based on contract you gave him.

Good for Josh not to add any years to his contract.

I can see Josh bolting to California after 2026 to be with his girlfriend Hailee

In the case of someone like Allen, if his contract is paying him $56 mil next season, likely higher in 2026, would it be a bargain or at worst a wash for the Bills to just keep tagging him at least for a couple years.

With Harty released and now Gabe signing with the Jags, what is the strategy/approach for WR? Are we going dumpster diving in Free Agency and then hoping we hit in the draft at WR?

Our current roster is Diggs, Shakir, Sherfield and Shorter (inactive all season). Currently not scaring anyone and probably in the bottom 10 as a WR group.

Anyone else uncomfortable? That’s a lot of pressure to hit on WR that is impactful in the draft! Do we trade up?

Thoughts or perspective on Beane’s approach?

    Not really.

First off you're leaving out Kincaid, he had 73 receptions this year.  If he does that again in 2024, he'd be viewed as one of the top 5 or so TE's in the league.  This past season he was ranked 7th.   That's like having another WR out here.  Knox as the #2 TE is also better than most teams can roll out and cook isn't bad either.

I read an article a couple weeks back was talking about Shakir and what he could do next season.  While it wasn't implying he was as good as Beasley, the article made the point that just like about 4 years ago, the top two Bills WR were Brown and Beasley out of the slot.  Point being the 2nd best WR on the team could be the slot guy.   Bill's used to have a guy Andre something that was pretty good out of the slot!  There wasn't a great TE on the team either 4 years ago when Beasley was at his best.

There's only one ball to go around.  Say the Bills signed T Higgins who's averaged around 70 receptions a full season.  He may have 70 catches for the Bills too, but doesn't mean as as team they'll be 70 more reception.  Most likely means the reception totals for others will go down.

Maybe it's not a coincidence that Diggs numbers dropped around the same time that Kincaid and Shakir came on strong.

Draft a WR high and bring in a mid tier guy and there's enough guys to go around to catch all the passes Allen throws.

I have looked usual places and hearing next to nothing on players wanting to remain either offering to take salary cuts or rejecting them offered by Bills. None from spouses too.

No one is acting like this was a surprise but no leaks too.

Only Von Miller is known coming back with a cut.

I have heard nothing from any of the agents I communicate with.

I was hoping for one of Sal's charts which showing which players are gone and impact on offense, defense and special teams.

This was a large cut by Bills and they could have done it another way.

I doubt you'll hear much about the ones who were asked to take a cut, but rejected it.

Interesting.  I would have assumed we'd have saved more, but I guess that means we are under the cap now.

Who's left at this point?  I would think only Oliver.  I don't want us to touch Diggs and kick the can down the road, unless he wants to give some money back like Knox and Von (doubtful).

I'm wondering when we give him a new overall deal though. He's well worth more than his deal.

T Johnson  Unless I missed it

  13. Joe B in the Athletic did one the other day too. Had the Bills extending and resigning some of same players specifically Jones and Lewis.  Had a fairly long list of FA signings too, though not sure of much overlap.  A couple names I do recall, instead of resigning D Jackson, had them bringing back Levi Wallace at CB  and for RB had them signing AJ Dillon, safety had them signing Geno Stone and Maurice Hurst for DT to name a few of his highlights.

  14. If this happened in Buffalo fans would just chop it off during halftime and be back in their seats in time for 3rd quarter KO.

This is one reason why I do not support an 18 week season.  It drives the playoffs deep into cold weather situations.

Recall as recently as the 90's they used to start the season Labor Day weekend, so they could start earlier too if they wanted.

WR- They usually carry 5 but possibly will Carry 6 if one is a special teamer.  Shorter has never played a snap and even tho Harty ans Sherfield we’re not great last year he never stuck on the roster or played much when he was called up. I don’t think either one is a guarantee. Sherfield is also a FA. Right now the only 2 WR we know will be on the team are Diggs and Shakir. I would imagine 1 of hamler, Isabella, shorter makes the team and we add a minimum of 2 WR but more likely 3 -4 with one being a returner/special teams guy

You hear/read posts all the time and comments themselves from the Bills, the team needs to draft and develop players to stay out of salary cap problems.  But yet you're ready to give up on Shorter who was just drafted last year in 5th round.  Signing, drafting, and spending money on players that don't have a clear spot to make the roster is a waste and will keep you in cap trouble all the time.

If Shorter is not on the team this year, that would be a big failure by the Bills in that they totally wasted a draft pick without ever giving him a chance to see what he can and can't do.  But I have faith in the team that they are smart enough to not do something that stupid and he will be on the roster this year.

Likely the Bills have room for  2 WR unless they want to waste more money.  Just glad you're not the GM, or maybe you're actually Russ Brandon posting with a new name as this sounds like something he'd have done!

Based on the number of players the bills usually carry at each position this appears to be the team needs:

    saftey- 2-3 more players

    CB - 1-2 more players

    LB- 1-2 more players

    DE- 2-3 more players

    DT- 3-4 more players

    OL- 1-2 more players

    RB- 2 more players

    WR- 3-4 more players

    TE- None

    QB- None

We Are looking at 15-20 potential additions to the roster in FA in the draft. I expect to make about 8 draft picks after Beane moves around so we are likely going to bring in about 10 free agents (some of those being players who could have been on roster last year

Love to hear how you came up with these numbers other than wishful thinking?  TE none, yet they carried 3 all season and now only have two plus one ERFA  At WR they have 4 signed, Shakir, Diggs, Shorter, and Sherfield 5 if you count Isabella and all they ever carried was 5.  But yet you state they need 3 to 4 more!!  2 at RB is about right, will give you that one.

Going off this number; and 11 mil for rooks, it looks like they’ll have 10 or so mil at minimum to play with in free agency if they get the Allen money converted.

    https://www.spotrac.com/nfl/buffalo-bills/cap/

So couldn't the Bills wait till June 1st to sign all the rookies and that would allow them to use the $10mil saving from White to pay them with?
