I find it funny all the talk this morning is about an offside call where the receiver was clearly in the wrong. If this call was against one of our own, say Deonte Harty (as it was in an earlier game), my rage wouldn’t be directed at officiating, I’d be pissed at Harty for not knowing where he was on the field. Chiefs fans anger is misplaced. Im upset Kelce was allowed to get that open on the crossers. Where’s the DB communication? Even if it’s man, if someone crosses your face that tight, stay to your side, switch responsibilities. It’s like defenders on a basketball court. It was ridiculous one of them got picked off with no other DB in the picture. What is the secondary coach teaching his players?

James Cook's Kamara-esque game...(edit:new discussion on page 4)
Brand J replied to Special K's topic in The Stadium Wall
WR screens work against us because we play soft coverage on the outside, there’s space for the opposing receivers and blockers to work. Conversely, we can’t get them to work against teams like the Chiefs that play up and challenge receivers at the LoS. Theres no space to go to work after catching the ball, there’s a defender right there. -
It’s Chiefs week - and the season is on the line

He seemed much more grounded, vulnerable, and human in this presser. He answered every single question and wasn’t once his usual prickly self. If this was the McD from 24 hours ago, before this “attack on his character” came out, when asked about Von Miller again he would’ve resorted to his usual “I respect the question, but I spoke about it yesterday and I’ll just leave it at that.” Hopefully he read the article and is also an introspective person. If he is, he can grow from this experience. Taking those truths in and reflecting on them will ultimately lead to a better man. I’ll be pulling for him the rest of the season because I’m a Bills fan first and foremost. That doesn’t mean I don’t want him gone if he fails to make the playoffs though. Introspection can’t help with perennially bad game day management. -
Josh has been yelling audible names all year. The next one we’ll hear on the field is “bin Laden! bin Laden!” 😂 What’s next for McD? Maybe he’ll try to inspire the team with a story about the Boston marathon bombers.

I legitimately didn’t know there were vet rest days coming off a bye week. Rest from what? That’s all they’ve been doing during their week off. -
If we’re counting wins and losses, sure, no argument there. But it’s a bit of a projection, right? He may be better than all those coaches I listed, but there’s no way to know unequivocally for sure. None of those coaches had the luxury of working with a stacked roster and one of the best QBs in the league. The comparisons aren’t equal. How much worse would we be if one of them was coaching and not McD? I am not of the mindset that having McDermott as coach equates to +2 wins per season, or whatever. Truth is, he’s probably an average coach masquerading as a good one and up until this year had (mostly) won the games they were supposed to win but ultimately couldn’t get it done when it mattered most. And much of that has been due to his game management. With McD we average, what, 11 or 12 wins per year? How many would we average with those aforementioned coaches if they were allowed to work with McD’s rosters? Would it be the same? Maybe 10 or 11? Is that a substantial upgrade on those other guys? Edit to add: I was around for the entire drought. Could probably count the amount of games I missed on one hand. I guess I’m a glutton for punishment. If memory serves me, each of those “lesser” coaches won games in which they were heavy underdogs. This Bills team hasn’t been a heavy underdog in quite awhile, they’re expected to compete and be in every single game. And that’s not because their HC is Sean McDermott.

I’d have a completely different opinion of McD if he had the same (6-6) record with Gardner Minshew, CJ Beathard, Kenny Pickett, or whoever’s starting for the Browns these days, but he’s got Josh Allen. One of the best QBs in the league. I don’t care that McD is one of the winningest coaches in franchise history. I’ve seen his decision making in big games over the course of 7 years now and I don’t believe he has what it takes to win a SB. He’s a supposed defensive mastermind, yet his defense fails time and time again to protect a lead. Would the results be different if someone like Jim Schwartz was calling the defense? I do believe so. Would the Bills be just as successful during this 6 year period with Allen at the helm if their HC was Doug Marrone, Chan Gailey, Mike Mularkey, or Gregg Williams? I do believe so. The talent on the field has overcome mediocre coaching thus far, but it can’t overcome equally talented teams with superior coaching. If McD doesn’t make the playoffs, Pegula has to look elsewhere. He just has to. How many more assistants does McD get to fire before the thumb points back at him?

Looks like Watson went from a sprint to trying to pull up and fall in bounds. The hammies don’t like that sort of rapid deceleration.

Lots of mistakes happen when throwing to Moore. He’s their version of Gabe Davis, but worse. Or maybe that’s MVS.

Packers seemed like they wanted to force KC to use timeouts more than they wanted to score. Just a weird drive to end the half, hopefully it doesn’t come back to bite them.
-
9 or 10 wins minimum, agreed. No way should we be looking up at the Browns, Colts, Broncos, Texans, and Steelers after 12 weeks. The majority of those teams don’t even have a QB. Most would also agree that coming into the season we wouldn’t be looking up at the Dolphins, Jaguars, and Ravens after 12 weeks - unless Josh was injured for a portion of the season. KC, for all their subpar play, will almost always find a way to win in the end. Wish the Bills had that knack.
-
And with no money to spend! 2024 is looking like a retool year. The encouraging thing is that KC won a SB in their retool year so it can be done. Just very unlikely.

What happens if the Joe Brady offense continues to excel and franchises want to interview him (again) for head coach positions? Would Terry be forced to move on in that situation? Those who want McD back even if the Bills fail to make the playoffs, would you feel the same if it came down to McD or Joe Brady?

It could be orchestrated as others have guessed, specifically for all the talk lately of getting rid of McD. The Bills, since Beane has been in office, have largely been buttoned up. Very few leaks of any news, so when something like this comes out, it might be safe to assume it’s planned. Like a player agent leaking something to the press that serves his client. ——————————————————— If we are stuck with McD for at least one more year, there are two immediate changes I would like to see. One would be to stop calling defensive timeouts, the other would be to stop calling soft zone coverage or cover 0 when protecting a lead. As to the first request, I have no doubt the Bills win the :13 second game if he kept his timeouts because the Chiefs wouldn’t then have the time to assess how the Bills were playing them, talk it over, and then implement those changes. If McD was in Reid’s shoes as the Bills were driving down the field to take the lead, no doubt he would’ve called at least one defensive timeout, which would’ve meant that he didn’t have all 3 to later get into position for a game tying FG. Stop the defensive timeouts and stop the cover 0 or soft zone lead protection. Play your normal base nickel defense, but challenge the other QB to make tight window throws to win the game. Dont give it to him on a platter. That Dan Orlovsky video showing the pass to the left flat 6 consecutive times or whatever it was, was disheartening and damning. McD has to be better and I think he knows it. But will he ever learn? Or will it always be “hindsight is 20/20”?
-
Agreed, it’ll take the players going into Terry to voice their concerns in order for it to happen. I’m not sure how well McD is regarded in the locker room. There was a poll a short while ago of coaches players would love to play for and he didn’t get a single vote, not that it matters a ton, but it was interesting.

Random talking head says something about the Bills

I believe the Bills had the 2nd highest odds to win the Super Bowl coming into the season. What other team(s) in the history of the league had similar odds, but missed the playoffs? -
Kneel Down Game: Final Nail in McD’s Coach Coffin
Brand J replied to Thrivefourfive's topic in The Stadium Wall
It’s like those who don’t want McD gone at the end of the year fail to recognize the repeated gaffs he seems to make in big games (and even against lesser teams). The Bills are inconsistent because their HC is inconsistent. Cry me a river about all those inferior rosters coaches had to work with during the drought years. After 6 years, we’ve plateaued with McDermott and it’s time for change. -
Kneel Down Game: Final Nail in McD’s Coach Coffin

As much as McD practices situational football (according to him), he’s an incredibly poor situational coach. I don’t know his overall record in one score games from the time he got here, but I’d be surprised if it’s not a losing one. Without even knowing the record, I feel confident in saying if the Bills aren’t up by multiple scores with minutes left in the game, McD’s poor thought process and decision making will lead to an L more often than a W. He seems like a solid person and a good coach, but he’s clearly not a championship caliber captain. -
Kneel Down Game: Final Nail in McD’s Coach Coffin

He didn’t really say the defense did its job to force a tough kick, did he? Please tell me that isn’t true. The defense’s job isn’t to force a tough kick, it’s to stop the opposing team from even having an opportunity to kick. -
Whatever happened to hiring a Madden championship player? I know I read somewhere there were talks of it, considering that person would have been through thousands of football situations our head coach hasn’t even been through. Yes, it’s just a video game, but it’s still a simulation of sorts. He needs to be on the sideline as a game day consultant to the head coach. I don’t think some of these close, ridiculous losses happen with his input.
