  1. Well yes, that was my second point. If that same scenario comes up again I’m pretty sure the approach will be different because now McD has lived it and dwelled on it. He doesn’t think quick enough on his feet to realize what’s best in situational moments. After the 2:00 min warning it was 4 down territory and they should’ve been bleeding clock. The moment he decided on a FG with 1:54 remaining the game was lost, no matter if Bass hit it or not. If you asked him again today if he'd do anything different that drive, regardless if Bass made or missed the FG, I’m sure he’d have another strategy in mind.
  2. Should’ve been a Bill!
  3. If Josh had flamed out at Wyoming, like most QBs who took his path, no doubt he’d be a farmer today.
  4. Similarly I knew our game was lost when I saw Bass jogging out on the field. Not because I thought he’d miss the kick, but because I knew we had no chance stopping Mahomes with 1:54 left. If McD had that drive to do over again, maybe he goes for it on 4th, bleeds the clock, and plays for a TD or bust.
  5. Need to take a flyer from the 5th+ on a Purdy-like prospect. Someone who had success at the collegiate level, but isn’t highly thought of for whatever reasons. Last took that chance on Fromm. Maybe Spencer Rattler in the 6th?
  6. @BeavercreekBillsFan didn’t think the 9ers would lose one game all year. I tried to tell him! The Bills only scored 7 points the entire second half versus the Chiefs. Yes, there were drops and a missed FG that factored into that, but they also lined up to punt more times than the Chiefs, so Spags did his job. Hopefully Joe Brady will spend the offseason studying tendencies of certain DCs.
  7. No other team has benefited from such fortuitous circumstances like the Chiefs. Remember last year when they were getting dominated by Philly and then Hurts fumbles for 6? Or when the refs called a ticky tack hold on the Eagles defender to seal the game for KC? Or the game before that where the Bengal defender shoved Mahomes late out of bounds to put them in FG range? I can’t really explain how the bounces always seem to go their way. The one time it didn’t - last night where the 49ers were gifted a fresh set of downs after a defensive hold - they still come through with the TD to steal it in the end. They’ve got a knack for winning even when they should lose. Gotta give it to them.
  8. The fact that it is a debate in strategy proves they got the OT rules correct. Neither team is at a significant disadvantage like before.
  9. If I was the first team to possess and scored a TD, no way am I going for 2! If I was the 2nd team that needed a TD, strong chance I’d go for 2 to end it and not send it to a 3rd series.
  10. Again, there’s far more variables in a football game that will have it end in another scenario, so having knowledge of what you need on the first two (guaranteed) drives trumps a hypothetical sudden death third drive.
  11. And generally, there’s a lot more factors at play that says the teams wouldn’t get there. A lot more outlets for the game to go another way if you will. Kicking off has more advantages per the first two (guaranteed) possessions.
  12. That’s why I’d kick off. If your defense gets a stop, ANY stop that first possession, all you need is a FG to win. If they can’t get a stop, you get 4 downs to match. The ONLY advantage the receiving team has is the third possession, assuming both teams scored equally on their touches.
  13. Thats why you kick off in OT
  14. You better score on that possession.
  15. I’d always kick off with the new OT rules.
  16. One play to get 4 yards. Gotta have it.
  17. They’ve gotta redefine intentional grounding in the offseason. Feels like QBs get away with too much and they’re already highly protected.
  18. Reminiscent of Hurts fumbling for 6 against the Chiefs when Philly was dominating. These teams just give in to the mystique and self implode. Brady’s Patriots wouldn’t have much problem beating these Chiefs IMO. They didn’t make these crucial mistakes.
  19. Who gets hurt more, Deebo Samuel, or Mike Williams with the Chargers?
  20. Cam Taylor-Britt, DaRon Bland, and that tall, speedy SEA Pro Bowl CB all went later (as did Benford). Still had plenty of opportunities to get a very good one.
  21. Can’t give Mahomes extra possessions.
  22. I am too. They’ve been nothing like the Chiefs that bumbled their way through the regular season. Knocking off both the Bills and Rabies at home? With what had been a mistake-laden cast? Definitely impressive.
  23. I think McD has grown a bit, he’s much more aggressive than he used to be. The early McD would never go for it from his own side of the field. This version has a better feel for the game. With that said, the fake punt was bad, especially with a non-RB rushing the ball. Funny enough, the execution of the play was worse than the design, considering it was an advantageous look to run against. Credit Chenal (or was it Tranquill?) for blowing up two blockers. The main problem I see with McD is that he’s slow to learn, he’s never ahead of situational moments unless they’ve happened before and that’s hurting the team.
  24. It’s no mystery, the media wanted someone to back for MVP for awhile, they kept throwing the names around. That 49ers/Ravens game was pivotal because it featured at the time three of the hottest MVP names - Jackson, Purdy, CMC. If the 49ers had went into Baltimore and handled them with relative ease, then proceeded to finish the rest of the regular season on a tear (as the Ravens did), it’s not hard to see how the winner would’ve been gold and red. I don’t think Lamar would’ve got a first place vote, especially if he had put on a Purdy-like performance against the 9ers throwing 5 INTs. Also don’t think it would’ve been 49-1, the Purdy and CMC votes would’ve been more dispersed, maybe 33-17 in favor of Purdy.
  25. Didn’t have anything to do with the 49ers wilting, especially against those same Ravens, did it? Purdy’s 5 INTs in that game didn’t help his case. Let me ask you this, if the 49ers had beaten down Baltimore and won out the rest of the season, who wins the MVP? I can GUARANTEE you it’d be one of two players from the 49ers and McCaffrey would’ve had an uphill climb to beat out his QB (provided Purdy was solid the rest of the way).
