  1. I’m not NA, so naturally I’m not offended by the word. I can’t decide anything, I’m simply standing by those who do find it offensive and want it removed. I agree with their position and I’m not speaking from a “woke” standpoint. Consider… the “N” word is glorified today and used in rap lyrics, T-shirts, movies, etc. The caveat there is that it’s only (supposed to be) used by Black people. What if a non Black team owner in the future wanted his franchise to be called the “N*ggas”? And his argument was that it ended in an “a” and not an “er” and that it’s cool and used all over anyway? Maybe some Black folks would be fine and humored by it, while the loudest would scream from the hills to take it down. “Redskin” to my knowledge was only used by white settlers in a derogatory way to describe an Indian. In that sense, it’s not a word worthy of being a team name. If NAs were not offended by it? Sure, revive it! But we know that’s not the case. Find something of value NAs have created or are solely responsible for and use that as a team name. There are other ways to keep their legacy going in a non-attacking fashion…
  2. I’m not justifying eliminating NA’s from our collective memory. I’m justifying (and standing by) the want to eliminate names that many feel are derogatory to their culture. Can you not see the difference?
  3. No, but deleting names many in that group deem derogatory is not for you to speak on. Even if you are Native American, you can’t tell others in that community how to feel about being called a “Redskin.” As will always be the case when one feels offended. “The squeaky wheel gets the oil.”
  4. True, there are Native Americans who don’t take offense to the name, but there are also many who consider it derogatory.
  5. Oh I didn’t know Henne retired. Excellent news! I was tired of him bailing out the Chiefs 😂 One down, Kelce’s next.
  6. Do you mean Chad Henne? The backup QB that seems to keep the Chiefs’ offense moving whenever he comes in?
  7. Maybe we should’ve taken TE Darnell Washington (6’7 264) in the 3rd, bulked him up, and put him out at tackle. Reports out of Steelers camp is that he was winning 1 on 1s vs TJ Watt. His old teammate George Pickens said “you have to understand, Darnell was going up against the entire Philadelphia Eagles DL practice after practice” 😂
  8. You know, I forgot all about Shaq Lawson. Bills bring 9, or at most 10 DL into the year. Miller (PUP?) Groot Floyd AJE Lawson Basham Oliver Jones Ford Phillips Settle There’s no room for all of them, at least one should be a trade candidate and for that I nominate Basham. Even when he lines up inside to pass rush I don’t see much that moves the needle. Last year he was clearly outplayed by Lawson. Unless he’s taken major steps thus far in camp (and nothing I read leads me to believe he has), get whatever you can get for him and move on.
  9. Does Basham give us anything Jonathan Kingsley or Shane Ray cannot? I was against the Wyatt Teller trade when it happened because I saw legitimate promise. I remember his first start against the Jets he played with his head on a swivel and I was impressed by his awareness and physicality. I get none of those promising moments from Basham. Unless those who have been in camp can say otherwise, I wouldn’t mind if Beane traded him for whatever he can get. Go into the season with Groot, Floyd, AJE, and one of Ray or Kingsley. If Miller doesn’t start the year on PUP, I’d go with 4 DEs and stash Ray/Kingsley on the practice squad.
  10. I guess it just wasn’t on the schedule because they’re practicing this morning. I did think it was odd for them to be off Sat, Mon, and Tues.
  11. Practice is today at 11:45EST and then they’re off until Wed? That’s effectively 1 practice in a 4 day span; definitely not your old NFL.
  12. I had hopes McD calling the defense would be an upgrade from Frazier. I don’t ever remember thinking Frazier had a smothering defense. It was very simple and basic in what they wanted to do, but strangely had a lot of checks. When you hear opponents start to comment on how basic the Bills defense is, that’s when you know the coordinator has run his course. Sounds like the offense still makes its fair share of plays, but I don’t think we’ll see DBs lined up 7 yards off the LoS as often under McD. Encouraging report.
  13. Astro isn’t writing the August reports.
  14. I was wrong about Allen too, but I don’t think missing on the pick means you’re not cut out to be an NFL GM. Those guys have hours and hours of footage, interviews, and classroom access, and STILL get picks wrong. There’s a bit of luck involved.
  15. They picked Williams with the hopes he’d play MLB this year. When he got in there in the Spring, Beane said it was a little bit too much for him coming from his simple system at Tulane, so they moved him to WLB and will again give him an opportunity to compete at MLB next year, when he has a year under his belt. I agree it seems to be a wasted 3rd round pick this season, but maybe he grows and becomes something. The likelihood is that he doesn’t, but hey, optimism is more fun than pessimism.
  16. Both were on the market for a minute. The reason for that I’m not sure, but it’s likely both overvalued their worth. Lavonte is on record as saying the Bills reached out very late in the process, just when he decided to go back to TB and if Von Miller had reached out to him earlier “we might be having a different conversation.” Paraphrasing, but he said something along those lines. The Bills didn’t pursue either aggressively, but if they had, going home for one of them might not have happened.
  17. I didn’t say last year, I said those numbers are over his career. Unless you’re implying he forgot what the feeling was like…? Taron knows how to get to the QB and I’d expect even more QB hits/sacks added to his tally with a more aggressive defensive play caller this year.
  18. Didn’t we sign Floyd for the same money B Wagz and Lavonte David got? I know pass rushers are more of a premium, but I dunno, I think I’d trade Floyd for one of those other two MLBs today.
  19. He has 6 sacks and 8 QB hits in his career. I think he knows the feeling.
  20. Even as the cap goes up, the QB salary has risen from about 13% of the cap in the early 2000s to now in the 20s. As the NFL has transformed into a QB dependent passing league, the value is reflected in the numbers. The only way it’ll start to become more equitable, where the lowest paid positions are given more, is if someone like Burrow takes a massive discount to help spread the wealth. Won’t happen though as I can’t see any of these QBs willingly taking 10s of millions less for his team to be more competitive.
  21. They were there last year too, which had me hoping their games would be elevated. I think Tim Settle was new though. I was surprised they spent so much time on DK and DK’s golfing outing.
  22. He’s still got a ways to go to catch Dawson Knox in contractual earnings.
  23. I’m going to assume this is a topic you have little to no connection with. Correct me if my assumption is wrong. Earlier I mentioned the sugar caught up to me and other family members (mother). I’m a Black male in my early 40s, grew up an athlete, and have always measured around 6’0” 190. Never smoke, drank, or did drugs. The one vice I’ve always had is that I love sweets. Candy, ice cream, soda, sugary juice, you name it, it was a friend of mine. Also never cared too much about what I put in my body diet wise because my attitude was always “I’ll just run it off.” A few years ago I started having frequent urination symptoms that had me believing my prostrate would be an issue, because (yay) Black men are also at an elevated risk of prostrate cancer. Then the excessive thirst started. It got so bad that I’d wake up with the driest mouth imaginable. So dry my tongue was rough, zero moisture or saliva. Went in to see what was going on and was informed I was pre-diabetic. My mother was diagnosed with type 2 some years back and also had a sugar issue. In addition to all my favorites, she’d drink juice that was so sweet it verged on being syrup. She does have a weight problem, but my current measurements are 6’0” 195; I go to the gym 3x a week. While it’s true I wasn’t explicitly told, “your sugar consumption has led to your condition,” it’s also true I didn’t think I’d be explaining to a guy on a Bills message board how elevated sugar levels are an issue. If I knew I would’ve had the doc put it in writing. I can still do that if you’d like to hear from yet another medical professional… To understand the sugar argument, one has to understand how insulin sensitivity works in those with elevated blood sugar levels. Metcalf has a sugary diet. You seem to think there’s no causation or correlation for later problems associated with diabetes. The common element in the studies you reference state “sugar leads to obesity which is one of the main problems of type 2 diabetes.” Metcalf isn’t in that group therefore he’s not at risk (your words). Anyone can become diabetic or at least pre-diabetic - look at me. The article I referenced earlier that stated “sugar increases diabetic risks both directly and indirectly” cannot be refuted. I don’t know the athletes who had the lesser pre-diabetic diagnosis, but these are some notable names who were diagnosed with the full blown type 2: Patrick Peterson, Jackie Robinson, Arthur Ashe, and Billie Jean King. If I asked you to bet your house that Metcalf’s sugar intake and elevated blood sugar levels will never lead to at least a pre-diabetic diagnosis later in life, would you back your claim? Actually, how could I ask you to stand on your conviction? I couldn’t get you to bet a friendly amount among a neutral team’s fanbase that the Nate Clements hit on Tom Brady would draw a flag in today’s NFL. 😅
  24. Your assertion that diet - specifically elevated sugar - is not causality for health problems is woefully misguided. “You are what you eat” doesn’t pertain to your ridiculous beliefs I guess. Nothing you said stands, you are no more informed on Metcalf’s body, genetics, and predispositions than I am. Look what I found regarding AA women from your pubmed “research”: Your “myth” has been quickly debunked. Why are you concerned? According to WEO there’s no causality between sugar consumption and diabetics.
  25. I don’t know what study you pulled this article from, or what “modern, high quality evidence” they reference, but diet has ALWAYS been a factor for those with these sort of health issues. Maybe the bolded is simply a coincidence, I dunno, but it has the CDC convinced as well:
