Prior to this season, Burrow was always thought of as having the higher floor (see QB ratings). His lows weren’t as low as Allen and his highs were almost as equal. This season he’s had some real clunkers, so I’m no longer sure. He’s not playing with the same confidence and consistency he’s always been known for, regardless of the reason.

There’s only one other QB I’d rather have. That other guy is almost never the reason his team loses a game, he’s like MJ on the gridiron, but Josh proved he can go toe to toe with him when he’s “on.” If our offense, which isn’t decimated like our defense, fails to move the ball, I want it to consistently be that everyone around Allen has failed him: the receivers are dropping passes, the line can’t block, no one can get open, etc. I don’t want Josh to share half of the blame because he’s missing reads, underthrowing/overthrowing passes, or not trusting what he’s seeing. To win a SB he’ll need to elevate the offense, to get production out of guys who ordinarily wouldn’t or shouldn’t be producing. If he can raise the floor of his worst level of play we’d be considered a dominant team. Right now we’re an inconsistent one, or “immature” as some talking heads have labeled us.

Bernard/Williams >>> Edmunds/Milano by the end of the regular season
Brand J replied to Big Turk's topic in The Stadium Wall
I’d argue he already has, even with the small sample size. I’ve seen Bernard do things Edmunds has never done, like get skinny through a hole and meet the RB at or behind the LoS. Or juke a blocking RB to get a sack. I used to see Edmunds get rag dolled by lineman and blocked by tight ends and those running backs. Bernard gets blocked, but I haven’t yet seen him get thrown to the ground or fly backwards on skates because a lineman has his hands on his chest. Not to mention Bernard’s awareness and knack for making a play when around the ball. He’s everything we wanted Edmunds to be, just in a much smaller frame. -
I thought the same going into the Giants game. GMen had given up no less than 24 pts in every game and had just allowed Miami to run and pass up and down the field to the tune of over 500 yards. The Bills had 0 points through three quarters against that same group. Just never know.

How sad is if that I immediately thought about Knox when that TD pass went off the TE’s fingertips? Knox owes us quite a few sensational catches (with no/minimal drops) to wash his shaky hands perception away.

What surprises me most about Bernard’s game is that you hardly ever see him get driven backwards, even against bigger, more powerful backs. I also rarely see him on skates versus offensive linemen. Remember the Bills vs Bucs OT game where Edmunds had Fournette dead to rights in the hole and Fournette shook off his weak tackle attempt? I fully believe Bernard makes that stop for no gain and the Bucs punt on the ensuing play, giving the Bills another chance to win. As we all know disaster struck right after giving up the first down. Edmunds tackle attempt is at the 14:54 mark in case the video doesn’t automatically go there. The second play at the very beginning of this highlight video is what I saw many times: Edmunds on skates. Bills vs Bucs OT game

Thanks, now he’ll fumble this week.

Simms: Gabe Davis is a good player, but he's not a number two

What’s the average contract for a WR3? -
NFL wants to eliminate "hip drop" tackles
Brand J replied to BaaadThingsMan's topic in The Stadium Wall
Ridiculous but I’ll give them that if they’re willing to revisit what constitutes roughing the passer. That’s my most infuriating penalty. -
Knox is just not a natural pass catcher, never has been. A couple offseasons ago he spent hours improving his hand-eye coordination to the point where he fatigued the muscles in his eyes… and he still can’t consistently catch the ball. The failed TD that hit his hands against the Commanders should’ve been an easy catch too. Bad contract when it was given and looks even worse now. Great guy, mediocre TE.

I don’t know what the answer should be, but in situations where 3 defenders commit a personal foul versus one on the other side, ALL penalties should not offset. Took the crew 10 minutes to essentially pick up the flags for deliberate and intentional malice. It’s also part of the debate that a personal foul penalty should never offset with a lesser one (eg illegal formation). In that situation, how about subtracting the yardage from the bigger penalty and counting the down without awarding offensive yards gained/lost? Would that be fair?

Wouldn’t have a problem with the 1 yard outs to Diggs if he wasn’t well covered, but what’s a gain of 1 going to do when you had actual time in the pocket, meaning no defender broke through, and the other routes aren’t allowed to develop? Everyone’s asking what’s wrong with the offense and to me it looks clear. Dorsey lacks ingenuity and Allen is too centered on Diggs to truly carve up a defense.

Just saw that Boogie Basham had a tackle. I wasn’t even aware he was active.
-
Oh you know he does. I don’t think any QB is immune, it’s the nature of the position.

Josh can do no wrong. It’s all Dorsey. (though Dorsey does have his frustrating faults and I wouldn’t mind if the playcalling was handed over to Joe Brady)

Suggestions on how to address the Bills sudden offensive struggles?
Brand J replied to Simon's topic in The Stadium Wall
My point was he’d rather target Diggs for minimal yardage, despite the coverage and protection, than sit in the pocket and wait for other options. Wonder why the offense isn’t moving as efficiently? -

There were a couple passes were the ball came out insanely fast to a well covered Diggs for less than 5 yards despite no defenders around Josh. Let’s not act like it’s a jailbreak every pass. -
Head on a swivel, field vision. I’ve seen Mahomes do it time after time. He was locked on who he was throwing in that pic so he wasn’t going to see Cook cutting across uncovered.

I wish Josh wasn’t so overly reliant on Diggs. He’d rather throw a one yard pass to a well covered Diggs, than sit in the pocket and patiently go through his reads. It’s compromising the offense. At least his reliance worked on the TD pass to Harty; there were like 3 defenders that ran with Diggs, leaving Harty wide open. -
As a coach, I would never punt from the opponent’s 37 yard line. I’m either going for it or kicking a FG every time. It’s cowardice to punt from inside the 40.

Who’s the best 1DT on a losing team? Go after that guy, value should be reasonable.

I didn’t love the trade up. If Kincaid fell to the Bills at their original pick, okay sure, but wasting another 4th? Don’t care if Dallas took him either, another player with lots of potential would've been available, as is usually the case in the early rounds. Last year when we pissed away our 4th trading up for Elam, these were some of the players available at pick 130, before the Bills next selection of Shakir: QB Sam Howell (WAS) WR Romeo Doubs (GB) TE Isaiah Likely (BAL) TE Chigoziem Okonkwo (TN) OT Spencer Burford (SF) OT Cordell Volson (CIN) LB Micah McFadden (NYG) CB Josh Williams (KC) The majority of them are starters and could’ve been, at the least, key contributors here. There’s legitimate value in fourth round picks and we’ve pissed away both in consecutive years. I really wish Beane was more patient.
