It’s like those who don’t want McD gone at the end of the year fail to recognize the repeated gaffs he seems to make in big games (and even against lesser teams). The Bills are inconsistent because their HC is inconsistent. Cry me a river about all those inferior rosters coaches had to work with during the drought years. After 6 years, we’ve plateaued with McDermott and it’s time for change.

As much as McD practices situational football (according to him), he’s an incredibly poor situational coach. I don’t know his overall record in one score games from the time he got here, but I’d be surprised if it’s not a losing one. Without even knowing the record, I feel confident in saying if the Bills aren’t up by multiple scores with minutes left in the game, McD’s poor thought process and decision making will lead to an L more often than a W. He seems like a solid person and a good coach, but he’s clearly not a championship caliber captain.

He didn’t really say the defense did its job to force a tough kick, did he? Please tell me that isn’t true. The defense’s job isn’t to force a tough kick, it’s to stop the opposing team from even having an opportunity to kick.

Whatever happened to hiring a Madden championship player? I know I read somewhere there were talks of it, considering that person would have been through thousands of football situations our head coach hasn’t even been through. Yes, it’s just a video game, but it’s still a simulation of sorts. He needs to be on the sideline as a game day consultant to the head coach. I don’t think some of these close, ridiculous losses happen with his input.

I was yelling “No time out! No time out!” As the kicker was lining up and the play clock was dwindling down. I knew we’d need that time out to drive into FG range with 25 seconds left if he made it. The fact that I, a total novice, could recognize the value of a time out there while a coach who has been coaching for more than half my life couldn’t… It’s time. McDermott must go. Hopefully Pegula feels the same.

If I was Terry, I’d love to candidly know what my players thought of McD. If there was a way to secretly have them submit to an anonymous ballot, the question would be: “do you believe McDermott is a superbowl caliber coach?” If the votes come back with 46 “no” and 7 “yes,” or something else majority “no,” then I’d have all the information I needed and couldn’t possibly retain McD because the players wouldn’t believe in him.

The two pass interference calls (as I type this) against Houston to keep the Jags drive alive are horrendous.

This thread is proof how subjective officiating can be. Everyone is reading the same situation, but the ruling isn’t unanimous. I think rules need to be stripped down, subjectivity should almost never be part of a call. For me, it was a catch because the offensive player is down the minute he contacts the ground. There’s no “survive the ground” rule in HS as far as I know. If there is, then the call should be an INT.

Mahomes did all he could. His personnel fails him in every loss. Love to see it.

Honestly it’s bang, bang. If the defender doesn’t touch Mahomes at all and Mahomes pump fakes and never throws that ball…

Spags calls a great, aggressive defense. I feel like his blitzes get home or at least affect the QB more often than not.

I was going to come here and say the same. Jordan’s teammates used to talk about how competitive he was and it didn’t matter what he was competing at, he just had to win. And would keep playing whatever it was until he won. Josh’s teammates say the same: Josh is ultra competitive and hates to lose. But the biggest difference between Jordan and Allen’s personalities is that Jordan didn’t care if he was likeable, or wasn’t your friend. I get the sense that Allen wants to be on good terms with everyone in the building. Lastly, if Jordan’s killer instinct and refusal to lose was a 10, I’d put Allen at a 5.

He’s not a quick twitch WR, but if Davis was faster and more explosive, he would’ve got away from #32, but #29 will catch just about every guy in the league since he had a head start. Maybe a freak like Tyreek Hill could run away from everyone there. Maybe. I think even he gets caught though.

I’d like to know what it is about McD that deserves such belief from Pegula? When he was first hired I heard he suddenly had all the power and was the one making the picks for the Bills in the 2017 draft with the help of Whaley’s staff. New coach coming in should’ve picked a new QB as well, right? But no, didn’t trust Whaley’s staff well enough for their QB rankings so he traded the #10 pick to KC and picked Tre White at the back of the first round. This despite Terry reportedly being absolutely enamored with Mahomes. Why the contract extension when it was clear the Bills were showing signs of regression since the :13 second debacle? That game alone would’ve raised my eyebrows as the owner of the team. “Can’t coach well enough to stop a team from getting into FG range in only 13 seconds??” That game in many ways was more devastating than home run throwback because it required a multitude of bad decisions for the Chiefs to get into FG range. McD is not a bad coach, I think he’s a better version of Marvin Lewis, but he’s absolutely not a championship winning leader as I type this message today. Maybe he figures it out with his next team, but I think he’s ran his course in Buffalo.

You’re missing the point. I’m not comparing Josh to those QBs, he’s accomplished so much more obviously. My point was that the offensive personnel he has to work with is superior to what those guys are working with as well as others not mentioned. We’d love for Josh to be protected by an impenetrable oline, to be throwing to two #1 wide receivers, to be handing the ball off to an all world RB, the offense should be easy in that setup but if he needs all of that for the offense to be counted on game after game, then we’re in trouble. If Hopkins was the intended target on that Harty INT last night, we’d get the same result. Ditto for the last game where Allen tried to throw to Davis in the honey hole. The Jets INTs? I mean we could go on and on. If he was sharper mentally and dedicated himself to really breaking down defensive film and tendencies, to the point he knew where his answers always were in any given coverage, I’d be shocked if the offense didn’t look much better. I wasn’t excited by the Dorsey firing, because I don’t expect the offense to suddenly improve by leaps and bounds. Throws were available in Dorsey’s offense as well, but the execution was lacking. I would’ve been far more excited if I had read that McD had been relieved of his duties. We’ll see what happens under Joe Brady, but I surmise we’ll have many of the same complaints.

He’s already said this was his fear in watching too much film. That he’d rather play on instincts and react to what he’s seeing than overindulge in film. Well, that approach hasn’t been working against the decent teams and lately hasn’t been working against the bad ones. I do agree that coaching changes are needed, I think this staff and Josh have already peaked and are now on the downslope of the mountain.

I’ve already been saying that. I struggled to put all of the blame on Dorsey because the throws are there to be made, but the execution is lacking. There’s a reason Brady never really fell off as a carousel of offensive coordinators cycled through the Patriots. “A great QB can make an average coach (and the players around him) look better than they are” is true more often than the inverse: “a great coach can make an average QB (and the players around him) appear better than they are.” I’m not saying Josh isn’t a great QB, he is, we’ve seen it… but he’s not playing great football right now.

I don’t agree. He’s not surrounded by Mac Jones, Bryce Young, CJ Stroud type of no name talent. And while it would be nice to surround him with more game breakers and a wall of an oline, he does have enough now to consistently move the ball and score points. Many of his strange INTs come without pressure in his face, which suggests that he’s not reading the defense correctly. If he was more of a student of the game he’d know where to go with the ball when the defense gives a certain look. You’d see less double clutching and plays that take over 3+ seconds to get rid of the ball. More importantly you’d see less turnovers which are an absolute killer. If he spent every waking moment studying film in the offseason, I’d say it’s a good bet that we’d see a sizable jump in his mental processing the very next season.

As a young pup, Josh worked relentlessly to improve. Mostly from a physical and fundamental standpoint. In 2020, the pandemic year with empty stadiums, he came in on a tear, surprising us all. I remember being absolutely “wowed” by him in that SF game and thought at the time “this guy is gonna be scary good.” Even after the 13 second debacle, the team rebounded the next season and looked to be a force… then the MNF game against GB happened and nothing has been the same since halftime of that game. When Josh came into this offseason saying he had never been as focused on football as he is now, I thought it was an interesting comment and didn’t know what to make of it. Some here speculated that when a player makes a comment like that, the inverse is often true - the player is not all in, but is saying so as to convince himself and others. Josh has never been great at reading the field, knowing where to go with the ball immediately after the snap, and getting it out on time, but I haven’t seen him look this lost since his rookie year. Quote all the stats you want to tell me how much I’m wrong, but Josh looks like he’s going through some things on a personal level. This offseason he needs to shut it all down, all the extra-curriculares, and become a film watching junky. Really dive into the complexities of defenses to see how coordinators are defending you, what’s working, what’s not working, where his eyes should be based on a given look, etc. become a real student of the game. Aaron Rodgers said “if you want to have sustained success, you need to know defenses as well as your own offense.” I don’t care if Allen doesn’t want to lift or focus on his body, the improvement needs to be upstairs, between his ears, if he’s going to see his vivid dream of the Bills having a Super Bowl parade come to fruition.

I was wondering at what point do we tune in more for entertainment versus hoping for a W? At what point do we start rooting for a high draft pick? They have a murderers row of games coming up and no chance at winning a championship this year. Is 5-5 too early to start rooting against Ws like I did during the drought?

Frustrating to watch, he could’ve had 2-3 sacks if he rushed under control.
