  1. Gailey said that he had a specific QB rotation scheduled for each of the OTA practices. Fitz and Edwards would get the most snaps 1st and 2nd in the rotation, due to Brohm and Brown getting all of the rookie minicamp snaps. These voluntary OTAs are almost over, so keep your eyes posted for the first man through in the rotation at the mandatory minicamp. That is the QB that Gailey believes is leading the others. Keep your eye open for the second man through in the rotation - that will be the first QB's primary competitor...

  2. Wasn't Tom Brady the latest Patsie to be upset with his contract? I hate the Pats* and everyone who wears that uniform, but I felt a little sorry for what they put WR Troy Brown through. Brown had always been a team player - took a cut in pay for the team and even switched positions from WR to CB when their secondary was hurting. His reward? He was tossed out like yesterdays trash.

  3. I have always been perplexed by the free pass Flutie got for that performance. He lost and turned the ball over 5 times against a decent Dolphins defense in a relatively easy place to play.........yet he was going to win the playoff game in Tennessee, against a better team, with a better D and a tougher venue? He singlehandedly cost the Bills that game in Miami. The only time we have ever lost to Miami in the playoffs.

I can see why everyone wants to place the blame at the feet of Flutie and rightfully so, but I wouldn't say that he singlehandedly cost us the game. It was b/c of Flutie that we could even move the ball and score in the first place! You can put many QBs in that game since Flutie - Bledsoe, Johnson, Edwards, etc. - and none of them would have had us in a position to win the game. Our OL was atrocious, but since Flutie was so mobile and a relatively quick decision maker (most of the time), we almost won the game on the Dolphins home turf. Even the announcer said, "without Flutie, the Bills are an above average team. With Flutie, they're dangerous." He was our second best offensive weapon on the team. The glaring mistakes that he made that day, prevented us from winning a game that he otherwise put in a position to win (confusing I know). One could argue that Andre Reed was really the individual who cost us the game...

  4. ON MY DEATHBED....AS MY LIFE FLASHES BEFORE MY EYES...THAT PLAY, THE MUSIC CITY MIRACLE, AND SCOTT NORWOODS KICK...WILL BE FRONT AND CENTER AS MAJOR DISAPPOINTMENTS.... <_<

Those 3 plays basically sum up the Buffalo Bills franchise - something great, followed by a HUGE letdown. The Bills are due this next decade, that is, if the world doesn't end 12/21/2012 like the Mayans believe...

  5. Now Schobel says, "the only team that I'd consider going to, is the Houston Texans." I think this was his intention the entire time - get the Bills to release him, so that they'd eat his signing bonus money, while at the same time, giving him all options if/when he decides to play. He's done with the Bills, but isn't done with football and wants to make his own career decisions that don't include the word, "retirement". Sorry Schobel, but if you're done with the Bills, you're done with football (unless the Bills are willing to oblige and trade you to Houston).

"There is only one place that I would even consider going to and that's Houston because it's so close to home and I know the defense and I know Bill [Kollar, the Texans' defensive line coach who held the same job in Buffalo]," Schobel said. "But I don't even know if I'd play in Houston at this point. I really wanted to finish my career in Buffalo."

  6. Please stop with blaming Flutie on the fumble already. It's been discussed over and over already. Trace Armstrong buried his helmet into Flutie's armpit while Flutie's arm was in throwing motion...sorry, but how is that a rookie mistake?

What the Bills COULD NOT do was get sacked, or throw something short of the goal line. They were out of timeouts. It was first down, so if the play was developing that slowly, you gotta throw that thing out of the endzone if the first two reads aren't there. Plus, Flutie had to know that with the blocking scheme, the RT wasn't blocking Armstrong. Get the ball out!! Anyway, it's over and done and in the past...

  7. Bills @ Dolphins '98-'99 AFC Wildcard Playoff Game

    - Sooo many mistakes made this game (5 turnovers - 4 fumbles, 1 int).

    - Flutie was exciting to watch, but made many mistakes, including a rookie mistake on that last drive.

    - Eric Moulds finished with 9 catches for 240 yds.

    - Our OL was pathetic, but Flutie was able to mask their many deficiencies the entire season.

    - Not one of Andre Reed's best games.

    - I miss the excitement of playoff football... :worthy:

  8. I see he didn't do a write up of the highlights today.. What I'm most interested in (and probably the majority here), is how the QB battle is coming along. The video only tells part of the story - looks like Brohm had the better day, but it's impossible to tell from the limited highlights/lowlights. Fitzpatrick wasn't even mentioned. Brown needs to give us a winner for each day. If no QB distinguished himself that day, then declare it a push, but at least keep us up to date as far as who looks the sharpest day in and day out!

  9. I think Antonio Coleman makes Chris Kelsay expendable by the end of the 2nd preseason game.. Younger, cheaper, and a better pure pass rusher. I don't know if Aaron Schobel's request to remain a Buffalo Bill is genuine, but if he realistically expects to be on the same page as the rest of the defense, he better be in by day 1 of training camp. His heart is in Texas (along with the rest of his family), but his job is in Buffalo. I wish someone knew first hand if he is currently training. If he has spent this offseason with his family, he may hurt himself trying to run around with guys who are in football shape...

  10. At what point does Schobel become too far behind to contribute? He'll already have to transition to an entirely different position, in an entirely different defense. Right now, he's missing all of the installation, as well as the added experience of playing OLB in a 3-4 defense. At what point does it become, "thanks Aaron, but we have to go with the guys who have been here learning this entire summer." In my opinion, if he doesn't show for day 1 of mandatory training camp, you can pretty much write him off...

3-4 defenses usually keep around 8 LBs and 6 DL. At this moment, the LB position is overly crowded. Which 8 will make the opening day roster? I've highlighted the players I'd like to see survive the Turk, but either way, some talented players will be handed pink slips..

    Aaron Schobel

  11. From Buffalo News article recently, Chris said: "They were talking about the transition to the 3-4 and how I wouldn't make the transition to stand-up outside linebacker," Kelsay said. "They're not the only ones who put me into that category or stereotype me in that way. I just use that as fuel to the fire. I feel like I've always been able to do what I put my mind to."

Yeah Kelsay sure does achieve his goals doesn't he? I mean how hard is it to "put your mind to" racking up about 3 whole sacks a season for 7 years?? And to think some media experts think he won't be able to transition to OLB? Just because he has zero quickness, has never played in space during his NFL career, and completely disapears for quarters at a time during any given game, why would anyone think he couldn't play outside linebacker?? I'm sure Chris can "put his mind to" missing at least 5 good one-on-one tackles against fast running backs around his end per game, and to continue his "pace" of 3 sacks per season, and to never being able to cover a back or tight end for more then one half of one second in pass coverage. And for all of those goals he will most certainly "attain", I'm sure the Bills will continue to pay him his 4 6 Million Dollars per season, right??

It's worse than you thought. He signed a deal averaging $6M/season - just a hair under Schobel's $7M/season.

  12. I believe the Bills were very much interested in trading up for Tebow. Can't remember which insider said it, but the words were, "the Bills WILL have their QB by the end of the night (night of the first round)." Add to this that those who were around the Bills war room, recognized frustration among the group, it also leads you to believe that Tebow was the guy. Lastly and most telling in my opinion, was Ralph Wilson coming out and speaking about a player who was selected by another team. "Denver panicked and selected Tebow." Why would Wilson care? If the Bills did not have any plans to select Tebow before the 3rd round, why did he care that Denver selected him in the first? He might as well had commented on Pierre-Paul and said, "the Giants panicked and selected Pierre-Paul." In my best Matlock impersonation, "Wilson did not care about Pierre-Paul, but he DID care about Tebow. Isn't that right..?" I'm just glad that this is one trade that did not go down - no Troup, no Carrington...

  13. He owned up to being phlankton stupid. Its a start.

A season of a thousand yards begins by standing on the ten yard line and not taking a single step backwards.

As if Roscoe Parrish was the only Buffalo Bill who made a costly in-game mistake. I can't blame him for trying - if I was used to playing offense and had all of my receiving opportunities taken away from me, I'd also try to make plays any time I had the slightest chance to do so (as I'm sure 80-90% of ppl on this board would do as well). If you were in his situation and wanted to be a full time receiver, but had that stripped from your resume, you'd try to force the issue when given other opportunities, trust me. If not, then you're not a true competitor...

  14. It's actually great QBs that find ways to make plays. Most of the QBs in the league are not great - maybe 5 are. The rest have good supporting casts, coaches who know how to use them/what their weaknesses are, and some luck.

No, I was right in my assessment. The Bills' QB of yesteryear wouldn't have to have been great to have made plays in our cracker jack of an offense - just good. I believe Vince Young, Tony Romo, Joe Flacco, Carson Palmer, Jay Cutler, David Garrard, and Matt Schaub, all would have made more than their share of plays if they were the Bills starter and would have led us to a better record overall. I wouldn't consider any of the aforementioned QBs "great", so it would've only taken a good QB to succeed in those conditions..

  15. OK, you're clearly not listening. So this is my last post to this thread.

"What if" is the only thing we can discuss. We're guessing about the future. Of course we're what iffing. What else is there to do when you talk about the future, for Pete's sake.

And again, pressure is a factor in development, sure. But it's beside the point in this argument. Because absolutely ANY starting QB in the NFL has massive pressure. It's in the job description.

You want to say that guys picked early start right away while guys picked later can wait and learn. Sometimes. Sometimes not. Rivers was picked 4th and didn't play right away. Edwards was a third-rounder and he did. Was there more pressure on Rivers, sitting on the bench, or on Edwards playing in the NFL as a rookie? Clearly the pressure was much greater on Edwards.

Your Brohm point is absolutely ridiculous. I mean, outlandishly ridiculous. You don't think that Aaron Rodgers had something to do with Brian Brohm not starting? Where is the Aaron Rodgers, the franchise QB, on the Bills? If we had picked Clausen in the second, he would absolutely have been starting by his second season at the absolute latest, the one exception being as I said before if one of the guys above him made a Drew-Brees-like huge leap upwards in 2010.

And the Cutler thing wasn't some guess. Modrak has been quoted as saying that he loved Cutler and that the decision makers wouldn't let him pick Cutler because we already had JP. When you think you already have your franchise QB on the team, you don't pick another QB in the first. If we picked Clausen, it would be the last high-rounder we would see for three or four years. And if Clausen was a bust, it would thus be a huge setback for the organization.

    Outta here.

This is true with ANY QB selected near the top of the draft. If none of the QBs step up this year, we will be in this exact predicament next year. This is the risk you take in drafting a QB with a high selection. Any QB...
