  1. I think one of the biggest reasons Noles fans were down on EJ is because he came in with such fanfare and he was a highly touted 5-star recruit. He played brilliantly at times, but due to his inconsistency, he never "lived up" to the extremely lofty expectations set upon him by the fanbase. He played well, but the expectations were very high for him. It's similar to a few years ago around here when Lynch would rush for 1000 and people would trash him, but would hold Freddie on high for rushing for those same 1000 yards. Just as a note: Remember that Tomahawk nation (the source of the article) is basically a fan blog site, as its part of the SB Nation network. They're not unbiased. Similar to buffalo rumblings and the bills. I like the site, but they're not always completely objective. They tended to treat EJ rather harshly here, along with many other FSU sports figures. I've got quite a few friends and co-workers that won't read tomahawk nation because of their slants on pieces. For comparison's sake, Warchant.com has connections with the school and team, and its writers are often on local media. Tomahawk nation isn't. To address some of the points in the article: Yes he is inconsistent. It was frustrating because his talent is world class. If he was more consistent, he'd have been a consensus top-5 pick. He's going to be frustrating at times, and he's going to make mistakes, or bonehead plays. But he's got a tremendous upside that he has shown at times. And here at FSU, he would make plays that make your eyes pop out of your head, or make throws that wonder how in the hell he put the ball exactly where it needed to be in a tiny window. Like the 2011 Bowl game vs ND and the 2012 Clemson game for example. He was truly brilliant in those games. As for his mental make-up, i don't believe he's mentally soft. But i do believe he holds himself to an extremely high standard and expects a lot of himself(due to his intelligence and physical skills), and he's going to personally shoulder the load when things go wrong. He never "pouted" per say on the sidelines. But there were a handful of times when someone else make a clear mistake on the offense, and he took all the blame. While he's not the "screw-you" type as they state, he seems to be more of the "i'm the QB, so the buck stops at me" type. Their leadership comment is baffling, because we heard a lot about how good of a leader he was and how the offense looked up to him. Here's an article from the beginning of last season: http://espn.go.com/c...-forging-legacy As for the simplified offense, all we ever hear down here is how complicated Jimbo's offense is, and he hates putting anyone in there on offense that doesn't understand the playbook and how the offense is run. He's benched superior players for plays/drives for not understanding and executing their particular assignments. This "simplified, dumbed down offense" crap only started to come out after the season was over, and not from any of the actual sports media types. There were issues between Jimbo and EJ in some games. Jimbo tends to go into a shell and play super conservative when leading in the second half. This directly cost us the NC St. game. When you go run-run-pass every series, that's not putting your QB in a position to succeed. EJ also didn't take too well to Jimbo's "yell in your face" coaching technique. Again, he didn't pout or anything, but different players respond to different coaching tactics, and Jimbo struggles to adapt himself to his players at times. He also expects a lot, and on more than 1 occasion, when a play that he's called wasn't run properly or had a bad result (for whatever reason) he's completely tossed it from a playbook for a game, or multiple games, even if the play would have worked again. That's about all i can say. EJ was a good QB here who played with inconsistency. From watching him, his flaws are the "coachable" types, like making sure your feet are set when you throw or you have proper footwork in the pocket. But he has shown flashes of absolute brilliance. If he keeps developing, he's got the ability to be scary good. And if he doesn't develop to the level most of us hope (excluding holcombs arm, who's already rooting for him to fail), then we spend a high pick on another QB in a couple of years and try again.
  2. We should bump that thread from when they signed Corp and everyone was bitching that they signed him to be the "future".
  3. Regardless of if he pans out or not, and regardless of how many times you spew your nonsense, EJ is nothing like Losman. FSU's offense was not simple, nor was it "simplified" for EJ. This lie has perpetuated itself repeatedly on this site and others.
  4. I don't like this redo at all. We should have: Traded Mario for Skelton. Traded our 1, 2, and 3 to the Raiders to get up to #3, and take Cordarelle Patterson (to ensure he's there) Traded our 4, 5, 6, to get as high up as possible and then drafted Tyler Bray.
  5. Its very disingenuous to fault Buddy for those 2 moves 4 years ago and then completely ignore all he's done to fix the problem since then, like adding Urbik, Glenn, Pears, and Hairston. If anything, for his faults, Buddy's shown quite the ability to put together a solid OL without continually spending 1st rounder after 1st rounder on the line.
  6. First off, nice way to cherry pick EJ's worst game of the season and possibly his career as the "standard" to measure him by. That was only his second game out of 30+ starts that he threw 3 INTs, the other being in his second start ever as a freshman. As for the bolded: 2009 vs Maryland (2nd career start): Down 4 with 2:30 to go, FSU wins with a game winning TD to win 29-26 2010 vs Clemson: Clem ties it with a FG with 0:53 to go, FSU wins on game winning FG to win 16-13 2011 Champs Sports bowl vs ND: FSU losing 14-3 entering the 4th quarter, scores 15 unanswered to win 18-14 2012 vs Clemson: FSU down 28-14 in the 3rd quarter, goes on a 35-3 run in 20 minutes of game time to win 49-37 2012 vs VT: FSU losing 22-21 with 2:19 to go, FSU scores a TD to win 28-22 But you're obviously right, nothing about the kid says he can bring a team back and win a game in the 4th quarter.
  7. I'm not even sure there was a second and 3rd round in the draft. According to NFLN and ESPN, the only 2 picks made on friday were Geno Smith and Manti Te'o.
  8. I like the pick and would have been with happy with Sturgis or Hopkins. He is NOT a John Potter. Kid has a cannon for a leg and is accurate. The best way to sum it up is that i actually trusted him down here. You didn't expect him to miss, and it was a surprise when he did. Given the new coach, and the fact we spent a 6th on him, i'm guessing its his job to lose, not Lindell's. It'd be nice to have a kicker you trust from outside of 50. I wonder if he'll wear his gold shoes in Buffalo? Also, IIRC, his little goofy clap/hop run-up on kickoffs is a muscle memory technique for his pre-kick routine, much like a pre-swing routine in golf. Also, there was this, which i was at. That was one of the wildest finishes to a game i've ever seen, even before the final FG. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=spefBglOlNA
  9. Plus, you look at what the transgressions were. Were they stupid stuff that 18 and 19 year old kids typically do, or was it something more serious. As for Duke, he got dinged for "underage possession of alcohol." Show me a person that wasn't guilty of that and i'll show you a liar.
  10. Another pick thats tough to argue with. Like NoSaint said, its quite obvious pettine wants a particular type of player and attitude for his defense, and its been reflected in these 2 defensive picks.
  11. Nope. Not even close. Just because teams didn't move up for another QB doesn't mean they wouldn't have moved up for EJ.
  12. Love it. Stevie's got a new running mate!
  13. So we B word that we have no WR depth behind Stevie, and then we B word when we draft WRs?
  14. Which begs the question, does alcohol make people smarter, or do smart people rely on lots of alcohol to be able to deal with stupid ones?
  15. Alonso looks slightly unstable. I love it. There are a lot worse attributes you can have in an LB.
  16. The pats* dont get an "extra" second round pick. They gained an extra 3rd, 4th, and 7th to move down from 29 to 52. The additional second rounder is really just their first rounder than they didn't use.
  17. I'm not going to continue to engage you, because done nothing but find ridiculous excuses to discredit every single game EJ and the Noles have won. When you go that out of your way to do so, it shows you aren't interested in debating, you're simply insistent on trying to prove you're right, to the point to making up falsehoods and tossing out data points that don't fit your argument.
  18. EJ's record in "big" games: 4-0 bowl games 1-1 ACC Championships 2-0 vs Clemson 1-1 vs Florida 1-1 vs VT 0-1 vs Okla But the others are right, EJ has never won a big game.
  19. Check out the ND bowl game from 2011 and the Clemson game from 2012 and tell me EJ can't take over a game. There was also the game winning drives against VT this year, i could go on and on. There's no guarantee that he'll develop into a superstar, but he's shown serious flashes of brilliance. Most of what you've said is patently false.
  20. I messed my pants (the front of them) with this pick.
  21. To all the people whining about the pats* (and i know you aren't), the Bills will pick 3 times before the pats* make their 1st choice.
  22. Excellent program. I finally learned why the Bills passed on Kelly at 12, and it all of a sudden it makes a lot of sense. We would have been happy with Kelly or Marino, and 1 would have been available at 14. Of course, the thought of Marino leading the Bills all those years when i was growing up is rather vomit inducing.
  23. I'll say that the Bills will take Austin at #8, and then trade up into the late first to get a QB. We'll have 2 picks tonight and none tomorrow.
  24. about Barkley: "That kid looks like a douchebag"
  25. Its very interesting, Kelly, as there seem to be 2 "warring" factions. The national guys seem to be in line with Rapoport, and don't see Buffalo taking a QB at 8, but taking one late 1st (whether its a trade up or trade down) or in the second. Its all the local guys that are "sure" the Bills are taking Barkley or Nassib at 8. Given the sometimes "rocky" relationship between the Bills and the local media, it wouldn't surprise me at all to see OBD hang the local guys out to dry and pass on a QB at 8.
