Accused death row inmate Troy Davis is denied clemency
Ramius replied to In-A-Gadda-Levitre's topic in Off the Wall Archives
Shows like CSI have turned jurors into even bigger idiots than they already were, especially in regards to DNA evidence. -
I could be wrong, but i think the "leaping" rule applies if you land on someone else. If you leap and clear everyone, i think you're ok.
-
Yeah, you're right. The "real" Super Bowl contenders are all 4-0 or 5-0 at this point.

Seinfeld/'Happy Gilmore' Actress Frances Bay Dies at 95
Ramius replied to Just Jack's topic in Off the Wall Archives
You can't just take her house, she's too old. -
Wake is terrible. They were decent for a year or so a few years back, but they're no long term threat to anyone.
-
McKelvin has more INTs than Asomugha over that same time span, so what's your point regarding the stats?
-
Yeah, and Bowe still went for 5-101. Sounds like McLovin did a pretty good against him last week.

With Texas going to the Pac-16, UConn is probably a strong possibility as #15. The ACC would really gain in the basketball department, and while UConn isn't a serious football threat, they're not a Duke or Wake Forest. As for a pod system for football, i could see this: A:FSU, UM, Clemson, GT B:Wake, Duke, NC St, UNC C:Maryland, VT, Va, Pitt D: BC, UConn, SU, 16th Still, with the addition of SU, i'm looking forward to some more great basketball games in the ACC. The past few seasons its been Duke-UNC-FSU and then the rest of the crowd. Just a fair warning to the b-ball fans...tallahassee is a house of horrors for visiting teams, especially if you are ranked high.

George Wilson played much worse than McKelvin today. He was out of position and letting getting into coverage on many of the deep passes. He deserves more blame that Leodis. While McKelvin wasn't great, he was in good coverage position on a lot of those plays. The raider WR had himself a hell of a game with some spectacular catches. Sometimes the QB makes a great throw and the WR makes a great catch and there's nothing a DB can do about it. And as UConn said, any more agressive and we're in danger of being for flagged for PI with the current rule system in place.
-
Actually the pod system would have you play 9 conference games, (3+2+2+2), so you'd still play 3 OOC games.

Welcome to the ACC guys! The ACC is already working on adding MSG into the ACC basketball tourney rotation. Good to have Pitt around to add some decent football talent, and hopefully 'Cuse can step up their game. As far as basketball, i like how it strengthens the conference even more. Looking forward to seeing FSU get to play 'Cuse in b-ball. For the rest of the big least whiners, WVU is soon to be member #14 of the SEC, so don't count on them staying. the Big least is going to become a basketball-only conference.

The kick was blocked, how is that Lindell's fault?
-
Good points on most but i take exception with a few: McKelvin didn't play particularly well, but sometimes, the other guy across from you just has a hell of a game, and that's what happened today. I'm not excusing McKelvin, but the Raiders WR played great today. He displayed some excellent hands and body control to come up with some of those catches. Spiller didn't "go down too easily." Huff tripped him up, which is a tackle no one can break. The other time he was smacked in the backfield the second he got the ball. His other plays he looked very good.

The reason the ACC made the bold first move is basically because they didn't want to be vultured when the other big guys (Pac-16, SEC, and B1G 10) all moved to 16. It was either the ACC or Big East was gonna become irrelevant, so i am glad the ACC snagged who we did. I'll be interested to see who else we add to get to 16, because i don't imagine the SEC and ACC would stop at 14. As i said in the other thread, it seems WVU is headed to the SEC as team #14. TCU may be really screwed in all this mess, unless something crazy happens like them and Boise joining the B1G 10.
-
I like the pod system, and hopefully all the new "super" conference will move towards something like that. Another rumor today is that WVU is headed to the SEC as the 14th team. I'd be surprised if Mizzou didn't start making noise to go to the SEC as well. For the ACC, UConn has been tossed around as another potential ACC team. I'd guess the remnants of the Big XII would head to the B1G 10. Also, where does TCU fit in with all this mess?
-
I'll have more on the ACC later, but TCU is headed to the (remnants of) the Big East, and word is that Va Tech isn't going anywhere without Virginia in tow.
-
I’ll continue my tradition of the 3 weekly upsets (no matter how tough it is to pick 3) Week 1 I picked 1/3 correct with Baylor over TCU, and last week I picked 1.5/3 correct. I got Az St. over Mizzou, and I count UGA over SC as .5 because SC didn’t win that one, UGA handed it to them. Seriously, who gives up 3 defensive TDs and a special teams TD? For week 3: Clemson over #21 Auburn: Clemson isn’t great, but neither is Auburn. The tigers luck runs out when they hit the road to play a tough tigers team. Its another close game, and the nation’s longest winning streak comes to an end as Auburn plays with fire again, and gets burned this time. Since that’s the only real upset I can see happening with any confidence, here’s 2 more just for arguments sake. Tennessee over #16 UF: Tennessee has been looking decent, and UF is not as strong as they’d have everyone believe. UT heads to the swamp and leaves a bitter taste in Muschamp’s mouth, rudely knocking off the gators in muschamp’s SEC debut. Arizona over #6 Stanford: I don’t really have a good reason for picking this exact upset. Call it a gut feeling. As for the game of the week: FSU wins a nailbiter, 30-28, on a late Hopkins FG.

I figured this was a necessary thread with all the rumors and allegations flying around about conference realignment. So if you hear anything, feel free to share it here. When anything official happens, it can get it's own thread. I'll start by saying there are rumors down here that IF OU and company head to the Pac-12, the ACC would make a run at Texas. Apparently there have been communications between the school and conference regarding this, and it seems the ACC would be willing to let Texas keep the longhorn netowrk. It doesn't affect recruiting since Texas stays primarily in state and while FSU will snag some players from the state of Texas, they aren't huge players over there. Both sides would benefit from the arrangement. IF this happened, the ACC would probably invite another Big XII school or 2 as well.

What's gonna be funnier is that the Sabres are going to have a higher payroll than the Bills. -
Sabres Owner/Management vs. Bills Owner/Management
Ramius replied to \GoBillsInDallas/'s topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Urban legend, huh? Russ Grimm, Brian Schottenheimer, Jim Harbaugh, and Leslie Frasier flat out refused to interview for the Bills HC job. For assistants who dream of becoming HCs one day, that statement is about as damning of ownership as you can get. You have people who are turning a shot at their dream due to the horrific employmeny conditions at OBD. Fred Jackson didn't have his deal re-done. He was an ERFA when his contract was up, and the Bills held him over the coals because they could. He had no options besides re-sign with Buffalo or not play. His play has warranted a dramatic increase in salary over his current 1.75 million salary. He deserves and should be given an appropriate raise for his play, and to send a message to other players that good play will be rewarded. Nix has said numerous times in free agency that the Bills will not be big players, and has stated that he was actually asleep at the beginning of a FA period. That says that the Bills are not committed to giving their all to win. Plucking trash off of other teams practice squad doesn't count as "signing players." Neither does waiting and hoping that other teams will cut players that might be useful to you. Building through the draft is great, but to be successful, you need to be active in free agency, something which the Bills are not. They are showing that they are content to possibly succeed in 2013 or 2014, not right away. As for the accounting side running things, pull your head of the sand. The team has been run this way for years, and this offseason was no different. If you refuse to acknowledge this point, then you're the one who is being myopic. The only strong message coming out of OBD is that the Bills aren't willing to do whatever it takes to win. It's not about being a "fantasy football" owner. It IS about identifying the talent out there and doing what you can to acquire some to fill the voids on your team. But oh boy does ralphie love fans like you. Every year he invests a small amount into the team (but not enough to cut into his pre-determined profit margin), gets a new shiny object sometimes, promises "we're almost there, just need another year" and you come running to throw your dollars at him. Then when it fails, he changes coach/GM, and the cycle starts again. -
Lee averaged 54-848-6 during his 7 years in buffalo. I'll gladly take those numbers over the combined career totals of Jones and Nelson, which were 49-569-4 coming this year. I have no qualms with either Nelson or Jones. I think they can develop into good players. I just think it was foolish to deal a good, proven WR before we're sure the potential replacements are as good as them.
-
What is inarguable is that The Buffalo Bills would be better with Lee Evans than without. Lee Evans was supposedly traded to "free up a roster spot for a promising youngster." Which promising youngster is that? Roosevelt? Aiken? Easley? How are they faring this season? Nelson and Jones don't count because they were on the roster last season along with Lee Evans. So essentially we traded Lee Evans so we'd have room for Ruvell Martin.

Sabres Owner/Management vs. Bills Owner/Management
Ramius replied to \GoBillsInDallas/'s topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
What's BS? The fact that numerous coaches flat out turned down the Bills for coaching interviews last year? The fact that the Bills are on record as saying they are not going to be active in free agency (ie-not giving your all to win) The fact that the Bills are 26 million below the cap? The fact that they refuse to pay Freddie a decent contract despite all he's done for the team? The fact that Bills' decisions are always over-reachingly influenced by the accounting side over the football side? The fact that we traded Lee Evans for a mere pittance?
