Bills need to stop drafting RB's & CB's in the 1st round
Ramius replied to Jerry Jabber's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
There's no excuse for their asinine RB merry-go-round. The biggest mistakes have been drafting poor players in general, and pissing away high picks to draft to draft losers like McCargo and Poz. With the most recent round 1 DBs, here were the crucial mistakes: It wasn't so much drafting Donte as much as it was NOT drafting Ngata. Any idiot off the street would have drafted Ngata. The Bills stupidly didn't. I don't care who they took at #8, the fact that it wasn't Ngata (or Cutler) was the problem. With Mckelvin, if the cheap-ass front office had simply kept greer, there'd have been no need to pick McKelvin. They created their own hole and paid for it. -
Buffalo's Defense won me my Fantasy Super Bowl

Blind squirrel meet nut. You're still a moron for starting the Bills D, just a lucky moron. -

Regarding the DBs, take a look back at the past 10 years, and you'll find the Bills right around the league average for number of high picks invested in the secondary. The biggest problem has been the overall lack of investment in OL picks in the top 3 rounds of drafts. There's lots of good OLs to be had in rounds 2 and 3. -
Fitzgerald makes 14 million per season. Andre Johnson makes 12 per season. Stevie was reportedly asking for 9 mil. Seems reasonable to me.

Ryan Fitzpatrick is "Regressing to the Mean"
Ramius replied to FrankReichComeback's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Wow. 4 years later and you still don't understand the difference between discrete and continuous variables. -
Stevie got neutralized and taken to the woodshed? His being Buffalo's leading WR with 4 catches for 92 yards beg to differ.

Keep them both and use both next year. Both are weapons, which the offense lacks. There's no point to trading Freddie away.

No, but you don't categorically dismiss prospects because they came from X size school or because they played Y position. Yes, players from big schools probably have a higher success rate. But ignoring small school players is dumb. As for FSU DE's, go ahead and ignore them. You're going to be missing out on some good ones in the next couple of seasons, specifically Bjoern Werner. I'll agree that in the past FSU DEs haven't panned out, but that was before the coaching change. The old guys under Mickey Andrews were coached completely differently than the new crop of DEs under Mark Stoops. They've been given the "SEC style" coaching. Brandon Jenkins has had the past 2 seasons, where he's flourished, under Stoops/Fisher.

People were freaked out in the NHL when they changed jersey production contracts, but it was much ado about nothing. Minor changes were made to a few teams, but there weren't wholesale changes like many thought. This sounds like much of the same.

Getting Fitz some more weapons means 2 things: 1. You actually have to keep the weapons you have, which means re-signing Stevie. This DOES NOT mean letting stevie go and drafting a WR in round 1 (which is what will happen this offseason). 2. This means you actually have to spend $ or a high pick on a legit TE. No more scrap heap reclamation projects.

People in West Virginia are still trying to figure out the answer to #1 under "physiology and health."

Fitzgerald makes $14 mil per year. Holmes and Andre Johnson make 10 mil per season. 8 mil per season seems in line with what stevie should be making. He's good, but not top tier. It would be the height of foolishness to let him go, considering we have jack **** behind him at WR. Someone will easily pay him 5-40 this offseason if we don't. Personally, i'd rather have Stevie on the Bills at 9 mil per than have him somewhere else for 8 mil per.

Question about the "Post-Ralph" Bills
Ramius replied to Bronc24's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Congratulating ralph for "being loyal to buffalo" is akin to congratulating your wife for not cheating on you. Just because they aren't doing something bad doesn't mean they are doing good or doing all they can to make the relationship the best it possibly can be. -
You're right. Look how well the OT from Texas, WR from LSU, DE from Nebraska, WR from Miami, and SS from Ohio St worked for us.
-
I have yet to hear from the "get rid of stevie at all costs" crowd as to how exactly the Bills will be better by not re-signing Stevie.

I have 2 main issues with the post: 1. The "cold weather team" and "team built for the elements" is vastly overrated. How many games per year are that adversely affected by the weather? Not too many, if any at all. Sure, it gets windy at the stadium, but rarely does the weather affect the gameplan. Furthermore, florida gets monsoons at games as often as we get the crazy snow games, but they don't need to "build a team for the weather" 2. Dareus wasn't drafted because Nix thought we missed on Troup. This is a complete fallacy. He was drafted because we needed more beasts along the DL and he was one of the best players in the nation. If Troup was an all-pro his rookie season we still would have drafted Dareus.

I've seen numerous people tell you that Honey Badger is a sophmore and isn't even eligible for the draft this year.

Got my signed Buffalo Bills photo of Fitz
Ramius replied to BringBackFergy's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
You honestly think Ralph is gonna spring for one of those? He just paid Fitz 60 million dollars, so you can be damn sure that he made Fitz sit there and hand sign each one. Probably made Fitz buy the stamps too. -
Mangino had 3 out of 8 seasons with 7 or more wins. He had 1 winning season in conference. So, as cynical said, what level was Gill expected to keep them at? Gill's recruits would be juniors and sophomores this upcoming season. One would think this would be the season where they'd start to show what they've really got. I don't care what school you are, expecting a coach to turn a program around in 2 years is completely ridiculous.

So, Bills won't buy remaining seats at 66% off
Ramius replied to Beerball's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
perhaps the ralphie bean-counters should take a look hard look in the mirror and ask themselves why there are so many empty seats. Penny-wise and pound foolish. Save a couple of mil in the short term by trading Evans, but then they didn't have the foresight to see how that would affect the team (and fanbase, thereby affecting the bottom line) down the road. -
Perhaps we should stop calling it a "lack of depth"
Ramius replied to Coach Tuesday's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I think this was true when he came back in 2006, but NOT back in the 90s. Polian/Butler were running the show back then. -

Ramius replied to Coach Tuesday's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
So now you're saying that Levy was running the drafts in the early 1990s, and he was over ruling Polian/Butler and demanding we draft DBs?
