No, the game really was that bad. Aside from the above mentioned calls, there was another would-be TD called back on a phantom holding call and there was big ben's "vinny Testaverde" TD where the ball never came close to crossing the plane of the goalline and the officials still gave him the TD.
The NFL handed that one to the steelers so bettis could win one in his hometown and then retire.
IIRC, Meathead completely lost the team in '05. Pissed off plenty of vets like Moulds, etc. Not to mention his textbook "how-not-to-handle-a-QB-situation" shenanigans with Losman and Holcomb.
As stated above, Morris was an abject failure in Tampa. There'd be a revolt if the Buccs kept him on. His buddy-buddy style that worked as a position coach didn't translate as an HC. They overachieved last year when they went 10-6, and the bottom fell out this season. The team quit on Morris.
If you want to talk about racism in the coaching ranks, you'll have better luck if you turn your eye towards the NCAA, where there are maybe 5-6 black HCs out fo 120 Div I schools.
Given that we (as a lot of teams) play multiple fronts, you draft him with the idea of playing him at both 3-4 OLB and DE in a 4-man front on passing downs. No need to stick him in only one spot or the other.
The 200 title game was just as bad. The talk on local radio today in Tallahassee was how LSU supplanted the 2000 'Noles as the single worst offensive performance in a BCS game.
At 265, Upshaw should be plenty big enough to put his hand in the dirt and rush the passer as a DE on certain downs.
I don't like when people use the 2002 Buccs as an example of not needing a QB. Yes, the Buccs had one of the all-time great defenses that season, but Brad Johnson played at a pro-bowl level for them that season. He was just as big of a reason for them winning the SB as the defense.
Wow. Complete snooze-fest, much like the first meeting. That was possibly the worst BCS game i've ever seen. What exactly is Alabama champions of? the BCS? By my count, each team beat each other, so i'm not sure how 'Bama deserves the championship. Did they switch to aggregate scoring like soccer?
It wasn't a battle of good defenses. It was a cripple fight of which offense could look less retarded. A punter vs kicker battle. Every other BCS bowl this year was much better than that crap-fest.
Good post. According to quite a few people, there are only 5-8 "#1" WRs in the NFL. I'd rank Stevie in the #12-20 overall range of WRs in the NFL.
The amusing part is how many people dog Stevie for the drops, yet consider Roddy White elite even though he leads the league in drops, and had a few of them yesterday.
If buddy wants a "Calvin Johnson" type WR, then we can start taking pre-orders for Alshon Jeffrey jerseys. He is exactly the type you can just chuck the ball up to and he'll go get it.
new england* will win. They'll hang at least a 30 spot on offense, and i can't see belicheat* letting denver WRs run free downfield like pittsburgh did. And unless wilfork goes down like Hampton and Kiesel did, the patsies* DL will have a much better time containg tebow than the steelers.
So i take it that you don't root against a single player or team in the NFL then. As for the sports media, i like sports, so i'm not going to stop following the sports media (aside from ESPN, which i loathe and refuse to watch or visit their website). I just don't need to be subjected to people fawning over a college kid who has done absolutely nothing yet at the pro level.
I just don't want to see him successful on the football field, playing a game (unless its for the Bills or Buccs), mainly because i hate the love-fests that the media puts on. Its simply a football thing.
For all the teams at a given record, in each subsequent round, the teams get bumped up a slot, with the top team falling to the bottom. So in round 1 we get the 10th pick, round 2 the 9th, round 3 the 8th, round 4 the 10th, etc.
Am i supposed to give props to tim tebow for finally doing something 31 other starting QBs can do (hitting wide open WRs)? His throw on 3rd and 8 late in regulation (when he one-hopped an open WR) told me all i need to know about his QB abilities (or lack thereof).
