Off topic...sounds like the "Return of Jesus paradox"...if Jesus ever actually did come back, the people "predicting" and "waiting" for his return will be the first ones in line to claim he's not Jesus and subsequently kill him. On topic...if we've never been visited by aliens, that's the surest sign there IS intelligent life out there.

How does a dealership not have a car in stock...?
Ramius replied to Fezmid's topic in Off the Wall Archives
not that there's anything wrong with that. -
It was a mistake by Zebrie, but yes, the FSU OL is coached to not move when the D jumps offsides. I can think of dozens of times where this happens and not a single soul along the line moves. That's why Zebrie didn't move.
-
Agreed. I've seen him play undisciplined at times. Not necessarily in a very negative way, just some over pursuit, and over agressiveness (something our D has been lacking for years, so maybe its not all bad)

Not sure of his roots, but Bradham went to Wakulla HS, a shithole little podunk place about 20 miles south of tallahassee.

Undrafted Free Agents...Who do you want?
Ramius replied to BillsFanForever19's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Agreed. And its P Shawn Powell. He'd have been the nation's #1 punter last year, but didn't have enough punts to qualify. -
He's white and his name is tank. TBD wouldn't care about him if his name was Tom Carder.

Part of the reason his play appeared to regress is that the rest of FSUs OL was **** last season. He was starting with 3 other OL guys that had minimal experience, either redshirts or juco transfers. Hell, in the bowl game against ND, it was Zebrie, a redshirt sohpomore, and 3 true freshmen starting on the OL. Great solid pick in round 5. Nah. His game is based on athleticism and technique as opposed to being a straight up mauler. He played most of his career here in Rick Trickett's zone blocking scheme.
-
Yup. Zebrie played both RT and LT here. Most of his career was on the right side, but he moved to LT when Datko got hurt. The kid has freakish athleticism and solid technique. He needs to build some strength. Right away he can step in as a backup at either tackle position, and i'd bet he's a serious darkhorse to start at one of the OT spots in 2013.

Obviously i love the pick. As another long time die hard 'Noles fan, what Buffalotone said earlier in the thread was dead on. Nigel is a terror the way he runs all over the field looking to knock people out. He played special teams his first season or so at FSU, and covered kicks like a runaway mack truck. Some of the hits i've seen him make are devastating. My only knock from watching his entire career is also that he can make some knuckleheaded plays at times. He's gotten a few flags for taking the extra step to bury someone instead of pulling up. He seems to have trouble turning off the killer instinct. Those hits are great to watch, but they can hurt when you take a 15 yard penalty on the play where your D made the 3rd down stop.

RD 2, Pick #41: OT Cordy Glenn - Georgia
Ramius replied to Beerball's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
That's because the GT triple option offense has 1 pass route: the go route. Talk about a raw, underdeveloped WR. -
RD 2, Pick #41: OT Cordy Glenn - Georgia

Great pick. Love it. Tough to ask for 2 better picks at 10 and 41. Glenn played LT his senior season and is just scratching the surface of his potential. Most of all, all the so-called negatives about Glenn i'm reading are nothing more than some minor technique issues which can be taught. -
RD 1, Pick #10: DB Stephon Gilmore - South Carolina
Ramius replied to SDS's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
They you're the one who is behind the curve with regards to how the NFL in its entirety works. The good skill players always go high. Especially in a passing era where in the majority of your defensive snaps, half of your defense is DBs (nickel or dime). CBs are extremely valuable. You're one of the chubby chasers stuck in 70s era football. -
In today's NFL, those "perimeter defenders" can easily comprise 45-55% of your starters on D on most plays(5-6/11). Which also means on most downs you'll be playing only 1 or 2 LBs. Gilmore was a great pick at a position of equal or greater need. I still think we need help at LB, but good LB help can be found in the middle to late rounds much easier than good CB help. Especially given Wanny's history of how he likes to run his defense and how he utilizes his LBs. CB provides the greater chance for impact, which is what you want with a top 10 pick.

http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/2012/writers/andy_staples/04/26/bcs-four-team-playoff/index.html There are a million and 1 articles about this, so i only linked one. The BCS as we know it is dead, giving way to a 4 team playoff. The day has finally arrived! Here are the key points: 1. The playoff will consist of 4 teams 2. College football wants to have everything wrapped up soon after new years. No more title game on Jan 29th. The semi finals shoudl come just after christmas with the final just after new years. 3. Bowls, thankfully, have no say in the playoff process. The playoff will probably fit into the existing bowl structure/process. 4. The days of AQ conferences seem to be gone. 5. No news yet as to how the 4 teams will be selected, or how the polls will fit in with this process. 6. Old bowl affiliations may be gone as well. The Bowl system may mvoe to more of a free market where bowls can invite anyone. The details need to be hammered out, so there's a lot of work yet to be done, but this is nothing but good news. I could care less about the bowl system. Its an old antiquated system, designed to benefit nobody besides the big wigs that run the bowls and the big wigs from the universities. As for "tradition," i bring up a great de-motivational poster; "just because you've always done something, doesn't mean it's not monumentally stupid." The old bowl system, much like the BCS, has run its course, and neesd to be revamped.

RD 1, Pick #10: DB Stephon Gilmore - South Carolina
Ramius replied to SDS's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
1. Yeah, the Bills did absolutely nothing about their pass rush this offseason. 2. Most of the time you will have 5/6 DBs on the field. 1 CB last year all of a sudden solves all of your CB needs? -
Remember with the pats*, they lost 20 of their 40 sacks from last season (Mark Anderson and Andre Carter). They had some serious holes to plug.

Mike Mayock: "DeCastro is the perfect 'Pittsburgh' player and will fit in great." My girl: "Why, does he like to rape girls in bathrooms?"

You still haven't exlpained how the Bills were supposed to address both offense and defense at #10, like you bashed them for. -

The Bills history of never taking a DB in both rounds 1 and 2 in any given draft in their entire existence dictates we'll do it this year? -

We adressed pass rushers in FA, and there were no OLs worth the #10 spot (except kalil). So we are supposed to reach just to take a fat guy? -

Enlighten me how Gilmore hurts the defense and team if he's a good player? Whitner and Losman were bad picks because they weren't great players. It had nothing to do with the position they played. -

Got it. So we are supposed to improve the offense AND defense with the 1st pick? Ok.
