2013 Salary Cap Set Just Below $121 & Franchise Tag Info
Ramius replied to SBUffalo's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
If you have to overpay for players, you're much better off overpaying for top talent than mediocre talent. We can't easily replace the production from Byrd and Levitre to warrant letting them walk. Both of them are among the tops at their positions. And the comment about bad teams not having good players is simply asinine. -
Rumor only!! Involves John Gruden
Ramius replied to marauderswr80's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I honestly don't remember that. I've defended Gruden and the job he did in Tampa (since the Buccs are my #2 team) numerous times here. The only criticisms i had for him in Tampa were that he bungled the QB situation, and that he definitely did cause locker room problems towards the end of his tenure. I think i addressed these in #2 and 3 from my post. When he was fired in Tampa, it really was time for him to go and move on. -
A rebuild needn't take 3 years anymore, especially given the state the bills are in. There's some talent on this team. The right coach could come in and easily get this team up to a 9 win level next season. Now, we'd need a QB to really take the next step past that, but the talent is there. The right coach could do that. The real question is if the Bills can hire the right coach. As for going from 4-3 to 3-4, i have no problem with the decision, just the execution. If you're making wholesale changes like that, you can't simply rely on the draft. You've got to rid your D of 4-3 role players (like Kelsay) and then bring in a number of FAs that are 3-4 type players to fill holes. You plug those holes right off the bat, and even though your defense won't be great, you can work the draft to add talent at whatever 3-4 position is available. This way you aren't stuck into reaching for a NT in round 2 if the talent isn't there. Or, you make bold moves to get yourself a cornerstone player. Move in the draft, target the guy you want, and go get him.

I've got some counter points to your well thought out post... 1. The WC offense wouldn't require a total reboot. Our WRs are built for a short passing game, as we have almost no vertical threats. We'd need a QB, but we need a QB now anyways. And in the WCO, Spiller would pile up about a million yards from scrimmage running/receiving. Gruden woudl be salivating with all the ways he could use him. Look at what he did with guys liek Charlie Garner. 2. True, Gruden has famously struggled with rookie/young QBs. He expects a lot out of them. However, he's never had a high, top of the draft QB to work with. He's always had mid rounders, that, due their draft position, had limitations. Things might work better with a highly skilled young QB. Then again, they may not. 3. Tampa had lockerroom issues, but Gruden was able to bring them together for a short period of time and achieve success. I think the real deal with him is that he's got about a 5 year expiration date. -

Yeah, those Oakland teams he coached sure did suck. -
Saints vs Cowboys-Ot screw-up by the refs?

Mike Pereira tweeted that the Holy Roller rule only applies in the final 2 minutes. -
26 touches for 173 yards of offense. But no, he obviously can't handle more than 15 touches, right? If our coach wasn't such a complete raging idiot, we'd be talking about 2 RBs chasing the 2,000 yard mark.

Naaman Roosevelt: Not a Patriot

If Roosie is this great undiscoveerd gem, how come no other team has ever considered signing him in his almost 3 years in the league? -

You work in government, dont you? -
I look for 2 things from Manziel. First, how will he perform next season after the SEC coaches and defenses have a year of game film on him? There's a good chance of a let down. Second, he's 6'1" and barely 200 lbs. No way does that slight of a frame hold up in the NFL.
-
He's not Donte Whitner, so he gets a free pass no matter how bad he plays (and he's been downright awful this season).
-
Of course, people were saying the same back in 2009 when jackass jauron kept Stevie nailed to the bench. At some point, if you're carrying them for 2+ years, let the damn kid play.
-
I think Asper has been inactive all season long.

You break into someone's house, you forfeit your right to life. I've got no problem with what the guy did. You have no idea what the person in your house intends to do to you, your house, or your loved ones. You've got the right to prevent anything from happening by any means necessary.

Ralph couldnt afford Dabo.
-
Yeah because Gilmore has devastated the team this year. If they didn't take him at #10, we'd probably be 8-3 and leading the division.
-
There are ways to show displeasure with a performance without throwing someone under the bus. You say things like, "all positions on the team are reviewed and analyzed at season's end," and "we are always to looking the organization and make it more competitive at every position." But, Buddy resorted to the all too familiar bunker mentality that comes out of OBD whenever the criticisms (warranted in this case) start to fly. We've seen it before with donahoe, jauron, and now chan/nix. The brass closes ranks and starts to treat the fans and media like idiots.

Jason Babin; Buddy puts in a claim!
Ramius replied to BillsFanFromCincy2012's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I'm having trouble understanding this thread... Jason Babin sucks so there's no reason the Bills should have put a waivers claim on him, but we did, so Buddy sucks and can't identify talent, but then the Jags had priority and also put in a claim so they got him, which sucks because Babin, who was so worthless that we didn't want him is going to torch for 7 sacks and make us lose, which sucks, except we want to lose so we can get a better draft pick. -
Gailey- Fitz is the guy for us- full quote in first post
Ramius replied to theesir's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
No matter how they spin it, you simply cannot market/sell a 2013 Bills team with Chan and Fitz back and no 1st/2nd round QB on the roster. They could try, but season tickets will drop by at least 15k. That will get ralphie's/littman's attention, if nothing else on the field will. -
Louisville in. Decent move for the ACC, and better than any other realistic option. More realignment rumors are resurfacing however. Apparently UNC inquired about membership in the Big 10, and Virginia did the same. As for us, i'm sitting here waiting for (at some point in the next few years) one of the other big guys to snap up us and Clemson. the 2 options seem to be either the Big XII(-2) adding FSU, Clemson, and maybe even a school like VT, and forming almost an Eastern division when you add in WVU, or the SEC adding us 2 to strengthen themselves and/or block the Big XII from gaining an east coast footprint. I'd be ok with either.

Man the Bills arent in much of a hurry to sell out the next few home games are they? This statement should be grounds for firing chan. -
They think they're getting Jimbo, too.

The joke is that of all the 1 loss teams, they stack up the 3 SEC teams on top with no good reason. None of those teams is significantly better than the other 1-loss teams that are ranked, yet the SEC continually gets the benefit of the doubt and gets put to the top based on reputation, ignoring what exactly is happening on the field. I'm not saying the ACC is better than the SEC. It isnt. the ACC is terrible. Whats bull **** is a then 1 loss FSU ranked lower than a handful of 2 loss SEC teams (simply because they play in the SEC). What ever happened to your record being the most meaningful measurement? And then you have 1 of the computers ranking a then 1-loss FSU lower than a 5-loss Mizzou. How exactly does that work? When a computer has a 10-1 FSU team unranked, that computer needs to be throw out. Something is wrong with the formula. The problem is the self-fulfilling prophecy of ranking the entire SEC high at the beginning of the season. It's a fail-safe built in to ensure that a lot of SEC teams will be ranked very high at season's end despite what they actually do on the field. The formula is simple. When an SEC team loses a conference game, the losing team barely drops, while the winner shoots up the rankings, solidifying their bogus ranks atop the standings. You claim that the other guys couldn't keep it up all season long. Well, neither could the SEC teams. Looking at the standings, they all have 1 loss. There's no legit reason why they are all above Oregon, In fact, Oregon should be #3, based on quality of loss. Their only loss is to the Pac-12 champs. Furthermore, why is 2-loss Oklahoma buried? they should be near the top of the 2-loss teams, seeing how they lost to K-state and the undefeated ND. But yet, they get buried below 3 2-loss SEC teams, because the SEC is magically somehow "superior".

Watching this team play feels like a weekly prostate check.
