Semi-Official Gameday Thread of Semi-Pro debut of the UFL
ajzepp replied to /dev/null's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
My thoughts: * Was great to see JP, but even against lesser competition he's still the same guy....has a huge arm and can look great on one play, but when the play requires him to use his brain, he can look really, really bad. Maybe Fassel can help him...I wish him the best. * I really like the commissioner guy. I think it's great how he said he hopes the UFL can help players transition back to the NFL. To me, it's important that they focus on being a complement to the NFL, not fool themselves into thinking they can compete. * The quality of play really wasn't half bad. For having only three weeks to train before the game, it was relatively well-played and entertaining. * I agree with everyone who said they'd much rather have Fassel instead of Dicko. I'd love to have either Haslett or Fassel in house, and maybe even Denny Green. * The color schemes were definitely ridiculous. Of all the colors to pick from, and with only four teams to outfit, why in the fug do they have the same shade of blue on both unis? Stupid... * I kinda like that they're playing in the Fall instead of the spring. Somehow it makes it feel more viable....not sure why. * Pretty sure I'll definitely watch again! -
Why doesn't anyone care about the NHL?

Yeah, it is a surprisingly nice arena. I haven't been to a Glads game yet, but I've been there for a couple of concerts and for a suburban locale, it's really nice. Beats having to fight ATL traffic to get down to Phillips. -
Call me crazy, but it seems that over the past five ten years, there are an awful lot of people who "collapse and die" before their time. WTF is going on here?

HFB guys!!!

I remember you feeling that same way about soccer in some of our Gringo threads -

Vermeil, too. Dan Reeves took two franchises to the dance but didn't win. -

Hmmm...I don't remember the no announcer thing for some reason...maybe I was just so enamored with the camera angles that I didn't even notice lol. But yeah, it was like going from seats a level or two up to being right down at ice level to watch the game. At some points I felt like I was actually on the damn ice, it was that cool. It was so much more engaging than watching the game from "above", that I wish versus and whoever else would adopt the same approach. I don't really want to see a panoramic view of the ice when I'm watching hockey....I'd rather be down where I can really appreciate the speed and skill of the players, while still being able to follow the game. I have a female friend who loves the farm club for the Atlanta Thrashers. She goes to the games all the time (Gwinnett Gladiators in Atlanta). The first time she saw the HDNet broadcast, she was blown away by it. I wish all hockey games were like that! -

Come on over, man...we'll watch the games in HD on my 133" screen...you'll see the damn puck I've said this before, but I think that the sport that should arguably benefit the most from HDTV is hockey. When I first got HDNet a few years ago, I noticed that I was watching hockey more than I had been before. The camera angles were fantastic, and the picture was amazing. I felt as if I were right behind the glass watching the action. I had no trouble at all following the puck and it took the experience to another level. Also, the rectangle screen allowed for much more continuity with regard to following the flow of the game. I'm a marginal fan, but I would love for hockey to become more popular and have the broadcasts all be like what HDNet does. It's a completely different experience. -
WTH was Edwards doing SMILING after the game

I signed off on that girly-man fukker when I caught him fixing his hair on the sidelines I've had it with these Cali QBs. Can we please get someone with some balls behind center? I never thought I'd see the day where I was wishing Kyle Orton was our QB. -
Yep, I thought that was pretty funny. Goes to show how big poker has become, though, when you are getting recognized by someone half way around the world.
-
My bad...I forgot the poker chicks hit a non-elimination leg.
-
That would be a pretty cool thing to let them do, cause I know that a lot of the teams are in it just as much for the experience of seeing the world as they are the money. I just wish that CBS would release more of the past seasons on DVD or have them available online to watch. I sent them an email saying something like, "you have an award winning show, you should make it available!", but never got anywhere with it. I've rented a few of the past seasons from netflix and saw one or two others on the Fox reality channel, but there's still a handful of races that I've never seen.
-
Oh man, I felt really bad for that team....that being said, I'd rather have my shot at the race and lose on the first elimination as opposed to never having the shot at all, you know? Watching this show again reminds me of one of the main reasons I love it....I think this is the only TRUE reality show, because no matter what kind of impression you try and give, the circumstances of the race will peel away every layer of your image until what's left is your true personality. You can have a couple that are all lovey-dovey to start, and by the middle of the first leg they are yelling and screaming at each other. I don't think you can truly anticipate what it would be like to be in an unfamiliar place AND be under the time constraints of a competition until you actually do it. I'm glad that the first three teams that have been eliminated were three of the less interesting pairs. It's going to be a good race!

No way man....Lana's farts could make Thurman's gas run back up into his arse!

That's a great example...I hate being envious of a division rival for any reason, but I would love to have their coach. That's exactly the type of attitude I'm talking about. I can guarantee you this guy has the undivided attention of every single pair of eyeballs in that locker room.
-
I know that you can't compare HS or college ball to the NFL, but I'm sitting here watching these press conferences and they are putting me to sleep. Not only that, but it's the same rhetoric and catch phrases ("we didn't execute", etc) you hear week after week. I remember when Mike Singletary was first hired at SF and he was doing controversial things pretty much right from the get-go. Seemed as if the majority of the folks on here thought the guy was a joke and his antics were going to backfire. I pretty much felt the same way. But now when I look back on it, guys like Singletary are taking a similar approach to what I experienced back when I played HS ball as a kid. Not only did my teammates and I get fired up and feed off one another, our coach had no problem going off on an emotional rant and calling everyone out for playing like crap. I guess what I'm saying is, where is the fire on this team? Does Jauron really turn into Billy Bob Thornton from Friday Night Lights at halftime in the locker room, or is this guy just putzing along with his monotone, lifeless crap behind the scenes, too? Who is it that INSPIRES this team to their best effort? I'm guessing pretty much nobody. Maybe since they are "pros" they don't need it...but if I were putting the pads on and lining up for the Buffalo Bills, I'd want a coach who got us fired up and who truly inspired us to our best effort for 60 min every week. It's hard for me to even imagine the players staying awake for whatever Dicko is talking about in the locker room.

If we bring in another re-tread, then it needs to be someone with a proven track record as a winner....not another douche.
