I just started and finished watching Breaking Bad

It was definitely clear that Gilligan gave Hank a "goodbye" scene with Marie, and that a WHOLE LOTTA BULLETS were about to fly...but even though it was a little obvious what was goign to happen, that didn't take away from the intensity a single bit. I was riveted the entire hour. -
Of course you make someone else beat you...and Brady did. How many of those plays did he put the ball in a ridiculous location where only his guy could get it? With this particular quarterback - and I'm as sick of him as everyone else - your DBs can have textbook position on the receiver but still fail to defend the pass. There was a lot of that today. I don't know what the YAC stats were for Amendola, but I bet it wasn't much. To my eyes, we had a guy in position to make the play nearly every time...but Brady beat the coverage. That's why he's got shiny rings and will be in Canton. Thankfully there aren't many QBs who will be able to do that to us if we play this well, especially once we get the other half of our starting secondary back. This.

Absolutely no doubt...that's why I was on a few people who said Brady was pedestrian. Even with green/unfamiliar receivers and missing his top target, Brady made sick throws that were timed absolutely perfectly. In years past, we'd consistently see his targets just running wide open all over the place...there was none of that today. Our guys were almost always in position, but the throws were surgeon-like. That's why the guy has been to five Super Bowls...it's not as easy as just pulling Pettine aside before the game and saying, "hey, Mike...make sure you don't forget to take Amendola and Edelman out of the game, k?" Brady is one of a very small number of QBs who can dictate to a defense, regardless of his supporting cast. Sometimes there is NOTHING you can do, regardless of how aware we are of where he's going to throw the ball. As much as I enjoy taking shots at Tommy boy and making fun of him, you can't deny that he is able to win games all by himself.

Whey even take issue with it? Seriously, see how many times Brady has been held to 6 points in the entire 2nd half...Mr "39" 4th quarter comebacks simply doesn't have that happen to him, yet our defense pulled it off. The offense had several chances to make it a two score game, which likely would have made the difference. They didn't get it done. That doesn't mean they WON'T get it done as they mature, but today they didn't. As far as taking away Amendola and Edelman, of course it would have been nice to take that way. But don't you think Brady had some say in that?
-
Why don't some of you guys go see how many times Brady has been held to 6 points in the entire second half of a game. Then come back and say how the defense wasn't solid. Even with all the penalties and mistakes, the OFFENSE needs to learn to close out a game...and in time they will. But for anyone to expect more from a defense missing two starters and with a less-than-100% stud DE, you're delusional.

I think it's still there, but one of the best kept secrets in Rochester is Rohrbachs brewery. Lots of tasty brews and some delicious crispy wings. Prob not worth the drive just for the food unless you have another reason to hit Rochester, but when I lived there this was easily my favorite place for wings and beer. They have some fantastic German food, as well.

It's pretty amazing the depth of Walt as a character...there is just so much there to examine and discuss. Even if we didnt' focus on any other aspect of the show, Walt's character alone could be an endless exploration. -
I know, but I thought with rookie contracts the 5th year opt out for first rounders was on the side of the club...I thought that was the standard structure.
-
So the player has the ability to opt out? I always thought it was the club option, not the player.

Looks like they're hitting it from a different angle, so that's a plus. Ever since the Footloose remake I tend to be pretty cynical about other 80s remakes until I know they've actually brought something new to the table. Based on that trailer, I'm interested.

I agree, Bill...I remember it like it was yesterday. The fact that it's almost 2014 blows my mind...

I've always found these house/bunker things fascinating...if I were wealthy, I'd have one built just cause it would be awesome. -
Every so often you hear about this state or that state wanting to secede...or people saying that people of different races should be assigned different places/cities/states to live. If I were King of the World (sorry Peter King), I'd create an area of the country for people who were of the belief that racism is the most pointless, absurd concept to ever creep its way into the human condition. I love diversity and I put that out there at every opportunity. I love being around people who are both similar and different than I am. I've been that way since I was a kid and I'm like that now more than ever. There is no greater expression of ignorance, IMO, than to single out someone because of the color of their skin. I have never understood the idea of taking a position on someone because of a quality that they had no hand in choosing. As Poojer can most likely confirm, Philadelphia is a wonderfully diverse city. I used to intentionally take the SEPTA train into North Philly to attend main campus of Temple U when I could have instead just made a ten minute drive to the Amber, PA satellite campus. Reason being? The student body of Temple U is composed of people of various ages, from all sorts of cultural backgrounds, from all around the US and the world. Just being able to share in that was EASILY worth the small effort of getting up an hour earlier to account for the travel time, and that's while I was working full-time at night and attending classes full-time in the day. I really think this is a reason why I fell in love with Philly as much as I did. I felt better able to discover who I really was simply by being among those who were so different. I wouldn't trade that experience for anything, and it's a big reason why I'm so proud to be a Temple grad.

Hope he hung there a while before it kicked in.

I may not be remembering correctly, but didn't walt convert the GPS coordinates into lotto numbers and put the lotto ticket on his fridge? And then destroy the GPS he used? -
See this is why I've always found non-fiction stuff more interesting than fiction. The stories that people have are far more interesting than most of the stuff that people can just make up in their heads lol. It's also a reminder of the degree to which so many of us take life for granted these days. It just pales in comparison to what those who came before us had to endure, and in many ways we're the beneficiaries of their struggles. People are incredibly interesting...

Wow, so she just came right out with the fact that her husband was killed by the Polish? That's awkward for sure... Is that true about America being more German in terms of immigration than anything else? I never knew that. I've always wanted to spend more time in Chicago, cause a good friend of mine lives there and she was telling me it has one of the largest Polish populations of any large metro area in the US. I'm not Polish by heritage, but my mom was adopted by Polish parents. So I basically grew up around a HUGE extended family on my mom's side that was predominantly Polish. I've been craving some Golumpki, "punchkees", and pierogi for the longest time....

Wow, three times? lol By the way, I don't know if any of you guys have seen that show "Who Do You Think You Are", but it's still on the air. The current season has had Christina Applegate, Chelsea Handler (this one was extremely interesting), Chris O'Donnell, Kelly Clarkson, and a few others. I've always found this show to be pretty fun. If you guys don't mind a quick personal story, I'll tell you about one instance that really impacted my desire to look into my heritage. About seven years ago I was working the night shift at a geriatric hospital when I was about to do rounds after taking report. The RN who was handing off to me mentioned what "a great story" one of the patients was, and that I'd be pretty amazed at who was on the floor. So I walk into this patient's room eager to find out what's up, and I see this short little guy sitting on the side of the bed almost as if he was waiting for me. He was very polite but he had an accent that I found hard to decipher at first. I asked him a couple questions about how he was feeling and I was about to take his vitals when I noticed that he was squinting and looking right at my name tag trying to read what it said. As one of his arms tried to tip it up so he could get a better look, he asked me to pronounce my name so I did. He asked me what kind of name it was but then sort of started answering his own question when we both said "German" almost as if we were saying it on queue. Now I'm used to my patients asking me about my name...it happens all the time. But something about this little guy was just different. I told him that I was going to check his BP, so he reached over to unbutton the cuffs of his pajamas at his wrists and roll them back so that I could apply the stethoscope. As I held his arm to check the pressure, I noticed a very faded looking tattoo on the inside of his forearm. I looked a little closer and saw that it was a series of numbers, maybe five or six of them in a row. That's when I sort of put it all together given his age, his name, and the comments that the previous RN had made to me...this was a Holocaust survivor. It was one of the most surreal experiences of my life, and I can't even explain in words the way it affected me. Of course, I knew that my family had come to America before Nazi Germany and that I had grandparents who served in the world wars...but this guy didn't know that. I don't know what that must have been like for him having a 6'2" 220lb German in charge of his well being at night. I made sure that this guy had everything he needed during the three nights I took care of him, but I often think about this whenever I consider my heritage. So being able to confirm the information I discussed in the OP was really great.
