  1. The worst part yesterday was the fans. Forget the elements, the refs, the play on the field even. That was a falcons home game.

The cheering was clearly FOR the Falcons. That would not have happened in the Ralph. The quiet during the Falcons drives would not have happened in the Ralph. The crowd cheering as the fg went through the uprights would not have happened.

That is what bothered me. How in the world are there Falcons fans in Toronto? How did they outnumber Bills fans?

Those were Leafs fans and their buddies who hate Buffalo and everything that comes with it. So they cheer on the Bills opponents and have fun doing it. The only way to shut them up is to win.

  2. This bright future can be made brighter if we lose our remaining games.

Yep, let's tank it from here on out.

I'm not sure if you're being sarcastic, and even if you are, there will be many others here that say that, but I think it's a bad idea. If Marrone can keep this team fighting to the end, with most of the games really close (win or lose), our team benefits from developing a never quit mentality. We can carry that into next year, and with time this team will gel and start winning a lot more of those close games. Hell I'm getting tired of saying wait for next year, but I really do feel more optimistic about next year than any in a long time. I did not expect .500 or playoffs this year with a rookie (NFL) coach and a rookie QB. We've been way more competitive than I expected and I hope we keep it up.
  3. I dont think there are many Falcon fans in Toronto. Its more like a lot of the fans in Canada are @ssholes and pull for any team playing the Bills. I've seen em in the ralph and they can go to hell.

I think you hit the nail on the head. Hell I live in Atlanta and the fans here gave up on the Falcons over a month ago. There is no way they have a bunch of fans who travel to their away games, not after going from Super Bowl expectations in the off season to a (mostly) lifeless 2-9 team. The Toronto folks that go to the game seem to love to cheer on anyone that is playing the Bills. It is pitiful and it even showed up in the SI recap after the game (they since edited it to get rid of some of the more sarcastic remarks about the alleged "home game" and the fans it attracts). The Toronto venue is an embarrassment for the Bills. I'm not even bringing up how it hurts our team and may or may not affect the outcome of the games. I'm saying I think it makes us a laughing stock that we willingly give up one of our home games.
  4. It was sickening to hear the crowd cheer as the game winning field goal went through the uprights at a supposed "home" game. What a joke.

I agree. It really pisses me off as it sounded like most of the fans were there to cheer on the other team - like they enjoy seeing the Bills lose. There is no way those were actual Falcons fans, I live in Atlanta and the fans here flat out gave up on the team over a month ago. Probably a bunch of f'ing Leafs fans that like to see any Buffalo team lose. It's damn embarrasing to have that happen at one of our supposed "home" games. F**$ Toronto!!!! The deal sucks.
  5. Listening to the crowd noise, one would think this was a

home game for the Falcons. At least that is how it sounded on Red Zone.

    Anyone have attendance figures ?

I don't have the figures but I know this NO WAY any of those fans cheering for the Falcons were from Atlanta. Everyone here gave the team up for dead over 4 weeks ago. It sounds like there are a lot of "fans" who attend the Toronto games that like to go cheer on the other team and enjoy seeing the Bills lose. Probably all Leafs fans.

Not quite as bad as an away game, but it does suck to give up our home field. The Ralph would have been rocking, and all we needed was a tiny little extra edge and this one could have easily gone our way.

  6. We could have run away with this game. Instead we are tied at the half.

Scary. Atlanta has been losing a lot of games big because they get behind and have to rely on the passing game, then the opposing D can tee of on Ryan and get interceptions and the whole thing snowballs. Letting them stay close and keep their running game alive is bringing out the fight in this Atlanta team. Not sure the Bills can handle them if they stay fired up

    .

  7. I went to the Seahawks game at Atlanta a couple weeks ago (won free box tickets). Atlanta looked pathetic. No control of the line whatsover on either side of the ball - they just looked like all the fight had been taken out of them. Running game was DOA and Ryan was running for his life much of the game. I realize Seattle is good this year but there was no contest. Then against Tampa Bay, same thing this weekend - Tampa gets only their second win of the year and easily has their way with Atlanta. By all rights we SHOULD win this game, but that fact alone scares me. I hope to God they don't announce in the papers that Mike Smith's job is on the line just prior to this game. It would be just our luck to have the Falcons give their best last gasp effort against the Bills in that case.

  8. Crap. I was feeling pretty good about this game UNTIL the Pats crushed the Steelers rolling up 55 points. It simply cannot help our odds going in to their stadium to face them after they were flat out embarrassed the week prior. Cinci pasted the Jets, and then the Jets came back and beat the Saints the next week. Who would have thought that was possible? You can believe what happened the week prior doesn't matter if you want, but I think it does. The Steelers will give it everything they've got. I'm hoping it's just not quite enough.

  9. I think we're going to see the line of scrimmage stacked against the run, with other teams daring us to beat them with the pass. Just like we've gotten used to in the past with crap QB's. Sad part is it works pretty good for our opponents for the most part. Just keep repeating "it's a rebuilding year, it's a rebuilding year" to numb the pain.

  10. This. For the Bills, potential of 2 good ones strongly increases the chances you will have a franchise QB. Could still be EJ in the end, but we've got to find a franchise guy. 2 young talented QB's would be a great situation.

I agree. EJ has not proven he is a franchise QB yet. We all want him to be, but he may not improve as much as we hope/think he will, or worse, prove to be injury prone (hmm why would anyone think that is possible...). I don't see what's wrong with a real competition for starting QB, and Josh Freeman is a more proven QB than the others mentioned.
  11. It seems like most of this thread is oriented around the assumption that EJ Manuel is unquestionably the long term answer to our QB concerns:

-Worries about whether the guy we bring in will somehow ruin him if he's not a good example of what a QB should be (btw who's his "example" now?)

-assertions that the decision is not that big a deal because we'll only need this guy for a few weeks this year

-suggestions that this is a rebuilding year where wins don't matter

The problem I see with that assumption: Manuel hasn't really proven anything yet, as far as long term capability as a franchise QB. Granted he gets the benefit of the doubt as he's a rookie and learning, but more importantly,he has not come close to proving that he will have the durability for that role. For those reasons it would seem prudent to consider that we need a backup QB that MIGHT be an alternative answer as a starter. I think that was the thinking all along with Kolb, but it didn't pan out. It damn sure isn't Tuel. Freeman (or maybe even Young) at least give us the plausible potential of being a starter. You can't immediately write off either, as both have "extenuating circumstances" in their histories.

  12. The Bills would never again play a game vs the NFC.

One could always dream (not much different from today)

I think just the prospect of annual Buffalo-Cleveland and Buffalo-Jacksonville games would be enough to kill this idea dead in the eyes of the league.

Well for the last several years, that's not been much worse than a 2x annual matchup between Buffalo and Miami.
  13. Someone needs to tell Hackett that the old K-Gun's effectiveness wasn't primarily due to the tempo. It was effective because the offense was packed with Hall of Famer's and Pro Bowler's.

And they executed. No offense works if they are not executing. The uptempo has nothing to do with this.

Hmmm. Maybe they executed because they were packed with Hall of Famers and Pro Bowlers. Lack of talent is probably our biggest issue. No quick fixes are in sight.

  14. I just want to see evidence of an ability for the coaching staff to adapt to real world conditions. So the hurry up worked for Marrone at Syracuse. Great, but this ain't college. It's natural for him to want to hang on to his belief that the players will grow into it, but how long will he persist with it before he comes to his senses? As others have posted, the hurry up is tough on the QB (even seasoned ones) but also makes it extremely hard on your defense as they get much less rest than normal. Perhaps it contributes to defensive injuries too? Slow it down Marrone!

  15. Exactly! I think Nassib is the guy! He knows the offense, less of a learning curve can start right away. However with the money spent on Kolb tells me hes our starter and the rookie QB will take time to develope. But then again if Nassib is the guy, he shouldnt need the time due to knowing the offense! So....maybe nassib is not the guy?

    IMHO....i like EJ Manuel...

The updated mock draft on the Bleacher report has the following for QB's (which takes into account our Kolb signing): Looks like Nassib's stock is rising and they don't expect him to still be there at pick 8. If he IS still there, I bet the Bills snag him.

#2 pick Geno Smith to the Jags

#4 pick EJ Manuel to the Eagles

#7 pick Nassib to the Cards

#8 pick Matt Barkley to the Bills.

I'd rather have Nassib than Barkley - at least he has proven the ability to play in the cold. I think of Barkley as a warm weather southern cal surfer dude i.e. Rob Johnson...

  16. I wonder if the advertisers are pissed off ?

Obviously they can't run the commericals as the advertisers want them ran during the game. So we have this odd "commercial free" nearly 1/2 hour period where the announcers have to ad lib. I think they ran out of things to say 20 minutes ago. We're even getting replays of the outage.
