  1. I was starting to think this game doesn't matter much, as many have pointed out it's not likely Miami loses to NE the next week.  But as we get closer I'm starting to recognize how important it is for teams to be gaining momentum going into the playoffs.  I've seen it many times, where teams start picking up steam and head into the playoffs playing better and better, gaining confidence each week.  Those are the teams that scare the crap out many of the other teams in the playoffs.  Often those the teams that go deep into the playoffs.  I don't know if I'm just starting to believe my own fantasies or not but I'm starting to feel like the Bills COULD be one of those teams - this year!  A signature win against NE would put a stamp on it.

  2. I wonder about this game.  Realistically since there is nearly zero chance that Miami will beat NE, nothing will change for the Bills whether they win or lose.  Meanwhile, NE is playing for home field AND they're pissed about all the "cheating" hype.   We can play loose and carefree but they are going to be HIGHLY motivated to win.  Honestly I don't care that much about this one - as long as we beat them the 3rd time we play them this year.

Best humiliation is to beat them on the field despite their attempts to bend the rules and utilize obscure loopholes in the rules

It would be nice but it won't be easy.  First off NE typically pounds teams they play after the media paints them as cheaters.  Secondly, they actually have something to play for (home field) whereas nothing will change with the Bills playoff schedule no matter whether they win or lose these next two weeks.  It's nice to say we're going to be motivated to "send a message" but I suspect we'll lose this one.  And that doesn't trouble me all that much - I'd rather beat them the 3rd time we play them this year ?

So, if we beat New England and they beat Miami and end up at 3rd seed, we'd still be 5th seed.   Likely path to the Bowl (assuming we could do it of course):

Wildcard, #5 Bills beat #4 Texans in Houston, #3 NE beats #6 Steelers (or other WC team) in NE

Next week, #5 Bills beat #1 Ravens in Baltimore, #2 KC beats #3 NE in KC

    AFC Championship Bills at KC

    OR

if we lose to New England and they win out and keep 2nd seed, likely path to the Bowl:

Wildcard, #5 Bills beat #4 Texans in Houston, #3 KC beats #6 Steelers (or other WC team) in KC

Next week, #5 Bills beat #1 Ravens in Baltimore, #2 NE probably sneaks out the win against #3 KC in NE (don't see them losing to KC there twice)

    AFC Championship Bills at NE

Which do you prefer?   Basically WC weekend and Divisional weekend probably the same for us either way.  I'm not sure if our odds would be better against NE or KC.  That said, if we could knock off the Texans and the Ravens, you'd have to feel we could beat anybody.

Per the Buffalo news, "Baltimore is blitzing an NFL-high 53.4% of pass plays through 13 games...Pittsburgh is blitzing on 36.5% of pass plays this season, according to Pro Football Focus."

Also, "In the three-game win streak against Miami, Denver and Dallas, the Bills had showed progress against pressure. Those teams blitzed Allen at a combined 30% rate, and Allen went 17 of 23 for 209 yards with two TDs, no interceptions and a 130.5 rating, according to News charts."

Denver and Dallas have elite pass rushers, but we limited them effectively. Baltimore plays Cover-0 and blitzes more than any team in the league and we struggled (the Pats and the Browns also blitz very frequently and efficiently too so that's 3 of our 4 losses right there). As I mentioned earlier in the thread, I believe the Steelers are more similar to Denver/Dallas than the Ravens which should make this an easier match up in theory. Plus they play zone rather than the press man coverage the Ravens rely on.

Pittsburgh has a great defense and pass rush, but a lot of people are giving them too much respect on here. Our offense should actually match up pretty well with them and play well as long as we clean up the mistakes from this past week.

If you're suggesting that Pittsburgh blitzes less than Baltimore so that somehow helps us, keep in mind Pittsburgh is watching the Bills-Ravens tapes.  They've seen how effective the blitzes were.  They are going to be getting after Allen, trying to rattle his cage and prevent him from getting any rhythm.  He is going to have to find a way to make much quicker reads and get the ball out in a hurry.

NFL really needs to change playoff seeding.  Perhaps this will be the year that finally forces that.

I can't recall which team, but I do seem to remember a 7-9 team winning the division and getting in.  Nobody changed anything then.

  7. The Niners have had the most success running off the edges - with Mostert.  I'd like to think we could have that success with Singletary, but he does get a lot of good blocking.  Their tight end has been blocking well to help the run game also.   Mind you these are a couple of the best running attacks in the league we're seeing.  It's easy to just envision the Niners jersey's are Bills' and that's what will be happening next week, but I'm not convinced we're playing at the Niners level yet.

  8. Am I missing something?  A few minutes ago Garapolo threw to his receiver in the end zone and the defender who was in front of him just stopped, which caused the receiver to run into him, completely disrupting his potential to get to the ball, which went over both their heads.  Isn't that clear pass interference?   The Ravens defender was not making a move to the ball.

If the Bills don't win the division I want the Pats to get the 1 seed. As its likely the 3 seed beats the 6 seed (and plays the 2 seed in the division round) I want the Bills’ 2nd round matchup to be at NE. I’d love for us to be the team that ends the Pats dominance.

Not to mention, the Pats are a much better matchup for the Bills than the Ravens.

This is the more likely scenario - talk of Bills winning the division is post Cowboys stomping fantasy (barring something unforeseen like a Brady injury).  I do think we'll beat whoever we play in the wild card game.  Then who would we rather play next - Patriots or Ravens?  I'm with you, I'd rather go to NE for that 2nd round game.

  10. If the Niners defense can't find a way to slow the Raven's offense down, I don't think we will.   I'm hoping that they "show us the way".  It's also possible that Baltimore is getting all jacked up about their big game with the Niners, and will have some form of let down against us.  Plus we are at home.  I'd like the Niners to lose in a hard fought close game - as I don't want the Raven's coming in here smarting from a loss.

I watched Good Morning Football on the NFL Network today expecting to see some accolades for the Bills.  There were some, but the dominant theme was that the Cowboys laid an egg.

from "blogging the boys" @ SB Nation:  This is the summary of their "Grading the Cowboys" blog.   I get that they are bent out of shape at the Cowboys and want to grade them an F.  But they dissed the Bills too.   Not cool.

    "Summary: F

An utterly inept performance in every way where a mediocre Buffalo Bills team thoroughly dominated the Cowboys in all three phases of the game. Reports before the game were that Jason Garrett wouldn’t be fired until the end of the season regardless of results. That’s too bad."

Great win!   Everyone played pretty well today (minus a couple exceptions).

Honestly, I can’t believe they didn’t crap the bed in prime time. It seems like the Bills Always struggle when they play on national TV, but not today! Maybe this team really is different...

It feels so good to truly believe the Bills are FINALLY headed in the right direction.

I think if we're truthful a lot of us were a little worried that we'd crap the bed.   I'm NOT going to worry about that any more, thank you Bills, for wiping that old fear away!  I'm a thanksgiving birthday guy, and this was the best present I could have wished for!
