  1. Suspect he is bad at “managing up,” perhaps among other flaws.
  2. Cheap shot in the sense that he didn’t have to work for that block at all - so it’s not worth pointing out on a clinic tape like Baldy did. Dawkins had many great plays in that game but pancaking a defender who was engaged with two other blockers after the play was basically over is not an example of elite line play. Anyone off the street could do that. If he’s really trying to maximize his dollars he’ll try to shop himself as a man corner. He put good tape out there this year because the Bills have played a decent amount of man coverage (probably bc they’ve felt they had to blitz more because their line wasn’t winning). And when they did he really held up. He would be paid many millions more as an island corner. Paying him will be fascinating. He is on a slow but steady upward trajectory to greatness but still isn’t there yet - he’s not being game planned against yet. But someone will be willing to pay him a ludicrous sum because he is on the cusp of greatness.
  3. Sweeping the division would be nice too.
  4. I don’t think it’s in his DNA to quit. And I agree Pegula won’t touch him. But something will have to give if they don’t get it done. The offense (surprisingly) was not the issue this year. Allen’s turnovers went away and so did his off field drama. The locker room is cohesive. They had some dead cap issues but they’ve invested plenty in their defense in terms of cap dollars and draft picks. These are McD’s players in McD’s system and if they can’t stop anyone in the playoffs yet again, I just don’t know where they go from here. Frazier isn’t there to scapegoat anymore. You can blame a rookie DC I guess? And I’m sure they’ll toss Smiley off the starboard bow. But the fan uproar will be deafening if Allen wins MVP and the defense craps out yet again.
  5. And the odds are that unless the Bills go the distance, the heat will be turned up even more on McD this offseason. The “Tyler Dunne Offseason Narrative” will be that McD has “added” to his resume by wasting an MVP season from Allen. Fair or not that will be the discussion all offseason if they don’t win it all. Will be intense.
  6. Wouldn’t be the worst thing if Lamar wins it and then we host them in the playoffs with a point to prove. As opposed to the other way around…
  7. I would love to know if I'm right about this statistically but to my eye, Brady has issues with playcalling between the 35 yard lines - the "outer redzone" or whatever they call it. For some reason the offense in that critical area loses focus, rhythm and efficiency. Maybe some of that is Allen sniffing the endzone and trying to get there in a single thrilling play (which, often enough perhaps, he does). But that area of the field remains an issue on offense and continued to be so last weekend.
  8. File it wherever you keep this legendary take of yours:
  9. There were a couple of times where they just threw the flag “just in case” and then went and discussed it and decided nobody could think of a penalty to call so they picked it up.
  10. Does Clete Blakeman think he is the product?
  11. Amazingly he doesn’t. It’s remarkable that he’s able to focus so intently while only getting targeted sporadically.
  12. /thread Without Cooper they’d have very little shot of going all the way. He opens up everything.
  13. HATE the outer red zone play calling but it’s also Allen getting too excited with the end zone in sight.
  14. Brady’s calls on the outer red zone area remain suspect.
  15. Today we find out which teams still feel like tackling…
  16. Have to think corner is in the mix too (sorry).
  17. Now do “edging”…
  18. Installing a solid 2T would do more for this defense than any other factor. They need one bad.
  19. 3rd down defense has been a problem for a whole stretch of games now. They need to get it sorted ASAP.
  20. He and Benford are playing at an All Pro level.
  21. Again am I wrong here or have the Pats baited Allen into that same throw several years in a row here?
  22. My only concern is a concern I’ve had all season, and it’s relatively minor because they’ve overall been so successful: Brady’s playcalling between the 40s. On the outer edge of the red zone, for whatever reason (and to my untrained eye and in my unresearched opinion), his playcalling falters a bit. They still have this lingering Dorsey-ness of looking for the shot play instead of making sure they get into Bass’s range no matter what. Again I could be wrong - but it seems like they’re more efficient in the actual red zone than they are in the outer red zone, which seems unusual.
