  1. So.....are we drafting special teamers?  Can this guy start?  Why did we draft Euhus last year?  Why not Hawthorne?

Because this guy has Antonio Gates-like athletic ability. Serious matchup problems, esp. in the red zone. This pick makes a ton of sense - not sure about the Parrish pick tho.

  2. DUDE. This guy is NO JOKE. I've had my eye on him.

    • Kevin Everett (Miami)

Vital statistics: 6-foot-4¾, 251 pounds, 4.65 (est.) in the 40.

Numbers game: Attended Kilgore (Tex.) Junior College for two seasons, and earned all-conference honors each year, before transferring to Miami in 2003. In two seasons with the Hurricanes, the first of which was spent as a backup to Kellen Winslow II, played in 24 games and started 15. Caught 23 passes for 310 yards in 2004, his lone season as the starter, and finished career with 32 receptions for 400 yards and three touchdowns. Had surgery on his left shoulder on Jan. 5 and has missed much of the offseason workouts.

Upside: Impressive athlete who easily passes the eyeball test and who has the measurables you want at the position. Excellent body control, changes direction well and is very sudden coming out of the break. Great jumper and has registered a 39-inch vertical jump. Goes aggressively after the ball and can make the acrobatic catch. Seems willing to give himself up to makes plays. Quick off the line and can get separation with his inside moves. Moves his feet well.

Downside: Biggest problem is that he just hasn't "done it" very long and possesses limited exposure to a high level of the game. For as smooth as he moves, he isn't polished as a route runner, and seems to have to think before he reacts at times. Will drop some catchable balls and gets down on himself. Plays with a narrow base.

The dish: On production, he's probably a third-round pick. Such an intriguing athlete, though, that he'll probably go off the board in the second round.

  3. "This doesn't speak negatively on Josh. We feel Josh is a solid receiver in this league."

"Dylan McFarland has worked hard in our offseason programs. We feel he can be competitive in positioning for our offensive line."

"Ron Edwards and Tim Anderson are hard working individuals who will contribute to our team this year."

"Ryan Lindell was 88% from under 40 yards this year, and that makes him a solid kicker in my opinion."

"Our scouts really like what they saw from Roscoe. He was a junior who could have improved greatly in one more season in college, making him a 1st round pick."

You left out "high motor", but other than that it's spot-on.

  4. Wow, this ranks right up there with "Big Cat!"

Do you guys think that it is good for an unproven nobody to take swipes at a qb who has thrown for 39,000 yards? While Drew was making mistakes, JP was layed up in traction because he brushed up against a defensive back, and an older one at that.

It amazes me that every time this kid utters something classless and or stupid, people liken it to the football equivalent of Shakespeare.

How about if JP survives a real game unscathed, let alone the preseason, before shooting off his mouth at a professional quarterback. He can limit his comments to hapless, defenseless children for a while longer.

    How about that?

    Settle down, dude.

  5. He knows Barry Bonds jock strap size and what he had for breakfast, lunch and dinner. Hes no draftnik, more of a male gossiper.

Interesting. This may be one of my favorite all-time quotes on this Board, but I have no clue what it means...

  6. Ronde Barber is a cover-2 cornerback whose skills do not suit the style of D the Bills play. He's best when the play is in front of him - when he has to turn and run he's not nearly as effective. He almost never plays on an "island" without help underneath or over the top. I know you're just throwing out ideas, but you've made this same suggestion multiple times so I thought finally I'd respond - most cornerbacks aren't just interchangeable from one system to another. If Barber were to go anywhere, it would be to Indiannapolis or the Jets - teams that use a similar system to TB.

  7. Apparently Dr. ZZZZZZZ has been snoozing for seven years or so. LJ Shelton is a left tackle. He played three years in college at LT. He played four straight seasons at AZ at LT. He played RT last year because of injury to the right tackle.

And that paragraph implies the Bills want even more than Shelton and a swap. Cool.

    312267[/snapback]

Actually Z calls Shelton a "right tackle-type", which implies that he excels at run-blocking but doesn't have the feet or athleticism you want from a left tackle - and I think that's accurate. Up until a couple of days ago, I was convinced, like you, that most of this stuff was a smokescreen and that Shelton to the Bills was inevitable - now I'm not so sure. In fact, I'm pretty sure we won't be trading with the Cardinals, but rather with the Eagles, and we'll be drafting our starting LT in this draft (perhaps in the later rounds, perhaps packaging some picks to get into Round 1 to grab Jamaal Brown).
