Coach Tuesday

Man, the gamesmanship is really starting to ramp up. Media reports that Rex lacked attention to detail, followed by a Carruci article in TBN about how Lynn is a "stickler for details." Lynn calls Tyrod's benching a "business decision" and lo and behold, a groin issue emerges from Camp Tyrod. Ah, the Offseason - our annual Super Bowl...

Not sure how we got off course here. ARod throughly wore out his welcome. His GM publicly ragged on him and they had a public spat (through ARod's agent) and so on that level it made more sense for his GM to face the music about his departure. Not sure what the hell this has to do with Rex.

Actually I think that the money owed ARod had a direct effect on keeping him as long as they did.

Why is it a terrible thing to say Kelly? They made a prudent business decision (FOR A CHANGE), what's the big deal? Plus it's obvious to everyone that's what happened, so why not just say it out loud, instead of insulting the media and the fans (and their interim coach) by playing it coy?

I know he wasn't. Why not just say - management made that decision for business reasons and I'm comfortable with it. He said that elsewhere in the interview but he wasn't consistent.

Fine, until he said he wasn't in the room. That was a flub. Should've just stuck to the party line of it being a collective decision.

No, the reporters were asking tough questions and he was unprepared and bungled his answers. And the FO are jerks for putting him in this position.

Obviously - but why do they dangle their interim HC out there and make him own that decision?

Lynn on EJ - "it was our decision" Lynn on EJ five minutes later - "I wasn't in the room when the decision was made" OOOOF

Mike Lombardi says in that video that the Bills' FO (primarily Whaley) views EJ Manuel as "a Ben Rothlesburger type" - and Mangini starts giggling. If true... my word.

Actually we're great at hiring coaches.

They probably want to preserve Tyrod's health and contract as an option/decision for the next coach - which IMO would not be unreasonable. Will help attract candidates for the job (i.e., if Tyrod got hurt, coach candidates might be nervous about taking the job).

Much deserved but really a shame.

OPPORTUNITY COST

I don't want to go off on a whole tangent here, but in today's NFL, specials is one area where you can gain a cheap advantage EASILY, and it could be the difference in winning 3-5 more games. If I were running an NFL team I'd pour resources into specials - hire the best coaches, force your head coach to allocate lots of practice time to it, fill the bottom of my roster with great ST players, and spend an extra $2-$3M/year on the best field goal kicker in the league (a fraction of the difference between worst and best QB, for example).

Hey Bobby there's someone in another thread who hasn't heard your opinion of Tyrod. You should get on that.
