  1. Alright - but my point is that I'm not sure a QB who isn't a pure pocket anticipation passer is DOA. I think you can win with a sandlot guy if you have the right pieces around him and a solid running game.
  2. I do not consider Cam to be an anticipation passer. You're describing him like Big Ben but that's not how he plays. He throws jump balls.
  3. Funny you should bring up Suggs: http://www.footballoutsiders.com/nfl-draft/2017/sackseer-2017
  4. AP can't catch the ball and can't operate out of shotgun. He is not a great fit for that offense. He's also old, has a lot of wear and tear, and is a bit of a PR risk for a team that hates distractions.
  5. Then I am in the minority but when I see MG run, he reminds me of Fred Jackson - no joke. His balance and vision are very familiar to me. And considering that Shady is probably in the final year of his tenure here, and the cap number for MG in 2018 is cheap under the deal NE signed him to, it seemed to me to be a no-brainer to match that deal. And I don't even have to factor in the fact that Whaley will squander that 5th on a backup safety who will be off the roster in a year.
  6. Yes, thank you for coming here to educate all of us. By the way, I see your act has worn just as thin (thinner, actually) over at Sabrespace.
  7. I'm just saying - the same things were said about JJ Watt. I haven't watched enough of Barnett to know whether he's more like Werner or more like Watt, I'm just saying...
  8. Dion Lewis probably doesn't make that roster - and he intrigues me...
  9. Yes, you're a perfectly objective and neutral commentator who is only out to "challenge the groupthink." What a remarkable coincidence that you always fall on the exact same side of the fan fence.
  10. Go ahead and act like toddlers instead of responding to substance. But then again, PTR does not watch football, he just defends his crummy favorite team with the vehemence, thuggery and dishonesty of a zealot.
  11. I don't think that's true. I am pissed Whaley mis-managed the MG situation but I'd certainly forgive him if he landed Hyde for a 5th.
  12. BB is their GM, so not well. They would have to change their strategy significantly without Brady, but I wouldn't bet against them. They'd switch to a simpler system on offense, probably more run-heavy. They'd still likely be in the hunt every year.
  13. Yup, I ludicrously defend the best-run organization in the NFL. Whereas you...
  14. Legendary response - classic PTR gamesmanship.
  15. Whaley drafted for need and yes, he was dumb for doing it.
  16. No, not because of one player. Because they trust their process and develop players into success stories. Patrick Chung bombed during his first stint in NE, left, and came back and developed into a very good safety. They took a gamble on Marcus Cannon who was recovering from lymphoma, were patient with him as he had a rough first couple of years, and watched him blossom into a fine young player whom the Bills would gladly insert at right tackle. Logan Ryan was considered a "reach" pick and had trouble getting on the field until last year where he proved that he had developed into a quality player (and they let him cash in elsewhere). There are many other examples. The Patriots acquire players with a specific goal in mind and they are patient in developing them. Again, you really should try focusing on what happens on the field. You might learn something.
  17. They accumulate draft picks and make strategic draft gambles on certain positions, because they can afford to. Do you actually watch football or do you sit there watching the other fans?
  18. Draft smart, versatile players who love the game and are not scheme-dependent. Put them in a position to excel by emphasizing their strengths and scheming around their weaknesses. Keep the scheme on defense simple. Invest more heavily in undervalued positions/schemes. Collect cheap assets through the draft and trade all but the most valuable core of them for younger assets (picks) when their price tags exceed reasonable replacement value, i.e., when it's time for their second contract.
  19. Welp. I believe it. Seems like a waste of a pick although they probably feel they're getting AP in his prime and they can build around a strong rushing attack. I would LOVE that. He is such an underrated back.
  20. What is their player development and retention strategy?
  21. Plus Saint Doug is a former TE coach. Good call.
