  1. Can we move the Division 4 talk out of the pregame thread? Cripes.
  2. DVOA is more predictive of success, but it's far from determinative. As FO notes in its commentary, the Bills have been in this position in prior years with a winning record and high DVOA, only to crater in both categories as the season wore on... we shall see. If they can hold up against the Murderer's Row of QBs coming up on the schedule, they'll have a shot.
  3. How about 7 catches on 32 targets with a very accurate QB throwing him the ball?
  4. What I said here: https://forums.twobillsdrive.com/topic/196628-im-surprised-by-zay-jones-slow-start/?p=4619398 This is an EPIC flameout.
  5. Whaley's issue was never talent scouting - he's a good scout (except, arguably, at QB). His issue is that he couldn't rise above talent scouting to team-building. THIS IS NOT DISPUTABLE LET'S MOVE ON.
  6. Here is just one example, lifted from the Zay thread: https://video.twimg.com/ext_tw_video/922814780787908608/pu/vid/640x360/aRgpnUb6lP4TWdeE.mp4 Watch where Zay is when Tyrod releases the football - he's nowhere near open. As it turned out, Zay never got himself open on that play, but the throw was anticipatory and accurate. Ty made a bunch of those throws against TB. He's doing it. He needs to process more quickly and he's too risk-averse sometimes, but the "college open" theme is starting to disintegrate.
  7. He is not just having a bad season - he is having a HISTORICALLY bad season. If he continues at this pace (i.e., if they don't bench him, which they should), he may set records for worst catch rate of all-time. This is an EPIC flameout.
  8. This is a statement game. LoRax threw out the C-word this weekend ("Championship") - if this team wants to be in that discussion, they not only have to win, they have to win strong. They HAVE to be able to get up for this game. I'm fascinated to see how they play.
  9. WRT the d-line, anyone seriously think theyre willing to keep paying Dareus that much coin to be a rotational player?
  10. We are in our third year of our marriage to Tyrod, i.e., weve become fixated on his flaws and have lost sight of his good qualities. There are only a few QBs in the league who would meet the expectations of some of the folks on this board. Would you rather have: Cousins, Newton, Smith, Flacco, Stafford, Eli, Palmer? Im not sure Id prefer any of those guys over Tyrod right now. They all have serious flaws, too. Unless you have Brady or Rodgers, or the up and coming Wentz, Luck, Carr, or Mariota, youre not relying solely on your QB to win games and youre gameplanning around your QBs limitations. Could Ty get the ball out quicker? Sure. But Sunday was a near-perfect game from him that featured a come from behind win in Q4, something these coaches have been waiting for him to show he can do. I cant fathom watching that game and concluding that its time to move on. Be careful what you wish for - divorce sucks. (That said - if they draft Baker Mayfield, Im good...)
  11. For the most part yes. Although on the missed throw to Shady in the endzone, Tyrod had tons of real estate in front of him and should probably have run. And there was a keeper play on the other side of the field near the goal line where Ty faked the handoff to Shady and tried running it himself - he got stuffed, but Shady had a huge crease and would've scored if the handoff had been made.
  12. Looked to me like a combination of factors. JW was playing really, really well - he's a streaky QB (as is Dalton) and he was on fire yesterday. Multiple third down completions where the he threw it exactly at the right time to the exact right spot, with the Bills' defenders within a half-step of him. Losing Gaines hurt - JW ate the replacements (Johnson & Wright) for lunch. Two dropped INTs (Hyde, Gaines). The pass rush needs help - imagine how could the D would be with another top-end pass rusher to compliment Hughes. Kyle is either injured or has lost some of his explosiveness. LoRax is really struggling in pass defense right now.
  13. See also: Sabres, Buffalo.
  14. No, but I credit the Patriots for developing guys like Patrick Chung and Macolm Butler. Doc, you and I have been here for nearly a decade and I don't think we've ever agreed on anything, at all.
  15. What you call handling I call more broadly player development. Good organizations have player development strategies and programs, which include helping young athletes mature into good teammates and members of the community. The Bills have not had this for years, if ever. Watkins to me sounds like a selfish pea-brain, but he is immensely talented and this roster needs him. Yet this organization lacked a plan to develop him as a PERSON and so they cut bait.
  16. I wonder if he quickly crammed before the interview to learn the blocking scheme himself.
  17. Drop the mic... that killed me.
  18. I thought he was talking about our current President...
  19. Good stuff, OP. Some terrible takes in an otherwise good thread.
  20. The Raiders OC should be suspended for calling a QB draw up the middle on 3rd and 10 with a back-injured immobile QB.
  21. http://www.footballoutsiders.com/film-room/2017/film-room-mitchell-trubisky Not Bills-related but I found it fascinating nonetheless... the man can't throw left for some reason and doesn't see blitzes coming from his left side.
  22. Oy. This is turning into the fastest flame-out of all time...
