We are off topic a bit but - Foster was exposed to waivers early in the season, then spent time working with Allen and on the practice squad and somehow developed the ability to track the ball in the air. I’ve been watching football for all my life and I’ve NEVER seen a receiver show so much improvement on tracking the long ball, so quickly. It’s borderline unheard of. The Bills themselves didn’t think he could do it which is why they put him on waivers. So I guess kudos to SkyDiver and the rest of you who predicted, despite plenty of evidence to the contrary and the team’s own actions, that Foster would develop into something... but color me skeptical that it was anything more than a lucky guess.

I don't disagree - his saving grace, so far, is adaptability. The great coaches have it - it's a necessary survival trait. It takes a certain amount of coldness, you've got to be willing to axe loyal acolytes if they're not performing. McD has done this - firing Castillo and stripping Frazier (temporarily) of playcalling duties were ice-cold maneuvers designed to save McD's own hide - which I found refreshing and encouraging.

Agreed. Ceiling is very high at a premium position (pass rusher) and that's key when you're picking in the top 10.

Again, I put this squarely on McDermott. This was his design - drafting a rookie QB without any foundation (no line, no receivers, no QB coach, no veteran QB until Anderson was signed late). Josh was moderately successful DESPITE the poor planning. If Rosen had been drafted by the Bills, he'd already be enrolled in law school.

I've always that that Special Teams was a reflection of the Head Coach. It's not just a matter of picking up good bottom-53 players who can man the Teams, it's making sure to focus on it in practice (the best coaches give it almost an equal footing with Defense and Offense), film study, and game preparation. PLUS in a salary cap league, focusing on Teams is a great way to improve your margin of victory at a low cost - it's inexpensive to sign quality special team players and coaches and focus on it during the week. Beane seems to understand the importance of it. Not yet sure that McDermott does.

True - but you need to assess his frame to make sure he can add weight. If his body has maxed out it’s gonna be tough for him to be a full-time player.
