They coached scared all night, that’s McDermott’s core personality. He’s afraid.

End of the day the defense lacks a single great player - not one. Good players across the board but zero game-changers despite all of the draft capital and free agent spending. They lack a single elite talent except perhaps Tre. Diggs was invisible on a night where he faced scrub CBs and backup safeties. Beasley spent all season bitching about rules then dropped two passes and slid down short of the sticks like three times tonight. He’s washed and his act is beyond tiresome. Good riddance. Playcalling on offense was uninspired and coaches coached scared on both sides of the ball, like they didn’t trust their team. This team has the personality of its head coach - afraid to go for the jugular. Except JA17 who is the greatest QB I’ve ever seen. I’ve never appreciated an athlete as much as I appreciate rooting for him and it’ll be a joy to watch him dominate the league for the next 10-12 years. Too bad his coaches won’t match his intensity.

Why does Jimmy think he can throw those outs to the right? He cannot. -

I’ve never seen a QB fail to rise to the occasion as often as Jimmy G. He’s not terrible but he saves his worst throws for the most critical moments of games. -
Somehow missed this article during the regular season. Anonymous front office execs were polled by ESPN about the most analytically-minded franchises and Buffalo ranked as the 3rd highest level of analytical work product. Dennis Lock, the Bills’ Director of Football Research and Strategy, got a call-out as someone who might get a big front office job some day. Thought this was really interesting considering Beane and Schoen basically built the analytics program from scratch when they got here. And it’s a reason Schoen was such an attractive GM candidate for a team like the Giants after their Stone Age approach to team-building under Gettleman. Anyhow, apologies if this was posted back in the fall, if so I just missed it and thought it was worth a thread given Schoen’s departure.

Exactly where I was - sure that the organization would ruin any chance he had to make it. They hadn't really developed a single player in 20 years, except maybe Kyle. And every time they went "against the grain" it blew up in their faces. I wanted someone pro-ready because I was convinced they'd fumble the snap. Never been happier about being wrong.

https://www.footballoutsiders.com/film-room/2022/bills-diverse-run-game-problem-playoffs "The Bills did not have the benefit of that kind of variability on offense for most of the year. Josh Allen being a cyborg with a crew of good pass-catchers was more than enough to put together an effective offense anyway, but it was clear that a portion of the team's volatility could be chalked up to an uninspired run game. They did not have that weapon in their arsenal for most of the year. That doesn't look to be an issue anymore."

Contrast it with Josh’s throw to Sanders. Basically the same throw from the same distance. Pats were in 2 deep instead of single high so in theory they should’ve been in even better position to defend that throw, but Allen makes the defense respect every inch of the field and so somehow Sanders was wide open.

Prior to his injury he was throwing downfield at a historic rate. Here is a good article explaining that the problem is his failure to operate within the structure of the offense. Roman’s bizarre and sloppy passing concepts aren’t helping him, as you’ll see from those clips. Same thing happened here with Tyrod- but that didn’t stop you from crusading that he was the problem.
