NCAA Rules and Player Compensation
Cotton Fitzsimmons replied to PDaDdy's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
YE OLE has to side with the PDaddy on this one. For those who say, "Oh the free tuition and room and board" is all the compensation they need, I ask this: If a student is at USC or Ohio State on an ACADEMIC scholarship and has a free ride, are they also prohibited to use their entrepreneurial skills to make money? I have a strong hunch that if such a student on academic scholarship started a successful business out of their dorm room, it would be celebrated as The American Dream, as opposed to being punished, suspended, having their reputation tarnished, etc. -
Any updates on Merriman's health?

What about Picking up Change or Teen Wolf? Can Mr. Merriman entertain us with those numbers? -

She knows when they get home, Bill's going to show her the "OH" face... "OHHHH OHHHHHH" Get a load of that image seared into your brain! -
Aside from the obvious reasons already mentioned... there's also the little fact that the Bills CUT Schobel in the midst of his on again/off again retirement last offseason. If he does come out of retirement, the last place it would be is Buffalo. Nix made it clear that the team would be moving forward without #94.

YE OLE thinks lining up Bulger behind Wood is most definitely the way to go.

My take on the Bills moving to Toronto

YE OLE's uncle used to talk this way. He would pull into the gas station and tell the attendant "Hey guy! Give me 5 dollars of the cheap stuff!" -

Maybe with "Gush" Johnson out, we'll get Solomon Wilcots for more Buffalo BEEEEEEELS games in the future! -

51 picks in the 7th round?
Cotton Fitzsimmons replied to Hapless Bills Fan's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
This article sheds some light on this topic, here's an excerpt with all points tantamount to the discussion: "Twenty one compensatory picks were awarded to clubs based upon the compensatory pick formula. By rule, 11 additional choices were awarded at the end of the seventh round to bring the total number of compensatory selections to 32, equaling the number of NFL clubs. The 11 additional picks were awarded to Carolina, Buffalo, Cincinnati, Denver, Cleveland, Arizona, San Francisco, Tennessee, Dallas, Washington and Houston based upon the 2011 draft selection order." http://www.nfl.com/draft/story/09000d5d81ef2e1e/article/nfl-distributes-compensatory-draft-picks-to-23-clubs -
Agreed. There's definitely some risk, but I think this kid's upside far outweighs it. Here's another interview they did with him a week or so ago, he comes across as a very genuine young man. I'm definitely rooting for him. I hope we end up with him as a Bill. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Lip0BsrBxNg&feature=relmfu

A different type of Da'Quan Bowers post... very impressive young man: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pQwgGup2JS0 P.S. - YE OLE believes we NEED this guy at 34!
-
I completely agree. We could end up with 3 star caliber players across the line with Bowers/Williams/Dareus, and yes that would change everything. I realize Bowers is a roll of the dice, but at 34 you take it. If he pans out, our d-line could go from a major weakness to an absolute ass kicking machine. If you can win in the trenches you can turn things around quickly.

Perhaps Manute Bol or his good buddy Chris Mullin whilst he stands on a stack of basketballs.

Based on this list, YE would lean toward Stevie Johnson. It's tough, because I'm not overly confident that about the long term status of any of these guys on this team. I love Fitz, but it's always up in the air as to where we're going with QB. YE has taken the approach in recent years to stick with the customized throwbacks with one of our H.O.F. players on it. YE has been considering getting one done up with Tasker on it next.
-
I have a moderate preference for Dareus at this juncture, but would be feel okay with either of these guys to us at #3. I know the talk has shifted to Von Miller of late, and I think he's a nice player, but it scares me not getting one of these big guys up front. And as much as I don't think Miller would turn into Maybin/Maybinot 2.0, his smallish stature does concern me a little. That said, with regard to the 3-4/4-3 issue, I would rather our front office not turn away top talent if it doesn't fit what they want to play.

Lets just say you are Buddy Nix

YE is afraid that draft day could go from first class to coach in a hurry... but YE OLE will remain cautiously optimistic until then. -
Official Buffalo Bills 2001 NFL Draft Hat
Cotton Fitzsimmons replied to Beerball's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
YE OLE is of the opinion that we are looking at going back to the royal blue jerseys... maybe just a slightly "sharper" version, and white helmets. YE has also not liked the rumored prototypes that have been floating around the interwebs of this new uniform. That said, anything is better than what we have now. Since the day Bledsoe trotted out onto the field when these uni's were unveiled we have been horrible with flashes of mediocrity. YE had heard tell once that the white helmets were changed to red because all of the other teams in the division were wearing white helmets at the time and it was causing an on field disadvantage with Ferguson, who I believe was the QB at the time, having trouble distinguishing. Has anyone else ever heard this? -
I completely agree. Washington was actually better when Locker was out.

Nix wishes he had the #1 pick this year
Cotton Fitzsimmons replied to Buffalo_Stampede's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I don't think there's been too many smoke screens with this new regime. For better or worse, it seems to be Gailey and Nix' style to just throw it out there. -
To this point, YE could definitely see Ralph playing the role of the "Gentleman Caller"

Jake Locker article on ESPN.com
Cotton Fitzsimmons replied to Tommy's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Completely agree. Everytime I saw this kid play he looked awful. Undoubtedly he's one those guys that someone WILL take a chance on, but will ultimately fail at the NFL level. Hopefully we stay FAR FAR away from this guy.
