  1. Nah, Dane Jackson is the new Levi Wallace. Solid, yet unspectacular CB that you can feel comfortable starting if someone goes down and doesn't cost much. I'd imagine he'll be back. With Douglas, Benford, Elam, and Jackson - unless Levi wants to be a Practice Squad guy, I'm not really interested in paying more for a 5th Outside CB. If someone does surprise us and pay more than we'd like for the role Jackson would play on this team, then I could see it. McDermott values CB's who know his system above all else. I mean, why do you think Josh Norman keeps popping up?
  2. That's a good landing spot for Russ. Pickett is on shaky ground, at best.
  3. Sure, for this year. But that number's going to go up. As we saw this year, the bill always comes due. The Chiefs got Jones for 7 this year - but it's 34.85 next year and 41.1 in 26. I'm not saying it's impossible. Just to say you're always looking at the price for this year and if you listen to Beane, he's always cautioning that he doesn't like to put too much on the Credit Card. This is why 75% of his contracts are 1 year deals.
  4. He's an inside/outside guy. He's better fit for the inside, but you can put him Outside in certain packages. I personally don't think we're looking for a tweener. I think we're looking for a True Outside WR that has the prerequisite measurements and full time experience there. I'm far from the only one who says this. A lot of prognosticators think he's a Pure Slot at the NFL level against longer corners who press. Literally just watched a One Bills Live video a minute ago where he was talked about: If Beane ends up deciding on McConkey - I won't hate it. I trust him to make the right decisions. But I'd be more than a little surprised. I'm sorry that it annoys you that I don't think he's a fit for what we need and I'm predicting we'll go with someone else. But that's my opinion.
  5. Possible. Though with how Beane & McDermott value players who have experience in his scheme above all else, his performance here when healthy, and the cost of him vs. an upgrade - I'd be a little surprised. Spotrac isn't always accurate on their estimates. And if you're hoping for DJ Reader, you need to hope they're *VERY* wrong. They estimate market value of Reader at 14.9m aav vs. Jones at 6.8m aav. And if that's accurate, I don't see them paying more than double for Reader.
  6. Buffalo Before the unexpected Von gift, I figured it was only going to be one of Daquan Jones or AJ Epenesa and that it would be Jones. But I suspect the Von move was done to ensure they're able to bring back both.
  7. Marino's take is that in signing Noah Brown, we can utilize him on the Outside and use McConkey more all over the place. While I like Brown and he's on my list of players I hope we sign, I don't want us using him as essentially a Starter on the Outside. I'd have him be more of a rotational role when our Starters need a breather and for depth.
  8. How many teams in the league? I'd still take him in mid Round 2, Round 3 as the floor. I equate much of his fall off to the fact that teams could, without any worry, roll double or more coverage his way bc we had nothing on the Other side. Add in a legitimate threat and they can't do that as much. And I expect we're going to have much more of a threat on the other side than Gabe Davis, or when Gabe was hurt, literally nothing but Slots we were playing out of position.
  9. He has to do it and he will do it. If we don't get that 24m, we're screwed. Relying on other smaller re-structures and extensions that may or may not get done to barely have breathing room.
  10. Keep in mind, the re-structures we can do on our own. But extensions aren't guaranteed and don't get done until both Beane and the agents of the player both come to terms. For example, Rasul Douglas was considered a no-brainer for an extension if White were to be released. We didn't do it. Until he can guarantee the other side is going to sign off on the extension, he has to operate as though he doesn't have that money. The only thing we can guarantee right now is the Josh Re-Structure.
  11. Now that's funny. Jeremy like "ooh - a talking point for my 4 hour show.... nevermind, too ridiculous"
  12. Jeremy knows nothing. He's a WGR morning show host who creates talking points for Sal to confirm or deny when he comes on the show. Dollars to donuts he talks about it tomorrow on the show, has Sal on, and Sal tells him there's nothing to it.
  13. I have it on good authority that the first Free Agents we'll sign from other teams will be Mitch Trubisky and Matt Haack.
  14. I don't like his Draft either. I get flack for being a McConkey hater. I'm actually not. I like a lot about him. It's just that he doesn't fit what I view as what we need at WR2 and what Beane will be looking for. And I see us having the opportunity to get a WR who is both higher ranked and is also a better fit for us when we're on the board. As you said, Braden is a true 3T. And while we def need to get someone we can comfortably switch Oliver out for at times that's better than what we had (and in the case of injury), I don't know about using a 2nd for that role. I'd be looking at either a 1T as Jones has had injuries and is less of a sure thing than Oliver or at least a guy who has the versatility and size for either role.
  15. I mean, we really can't afford to do anything too liberal. With everything Joe Marino did (or as little as he did, depending on your view), there's just 5m left over for Draft Picks, the Practice Squad, emergency spending, etc. We'd have to find a way to come up with even more by the end of Camp just to do the conservative projection he did. And things like Dion's and Taron's extensions aren't guaranteed to be hammered out between the agents and Beane by the start of Free Agency. The list of expired or released contracts this season is MASSIVE. Even if you take into account the players that we've re-signed so far, the players he projects re-signing, and players that have already been effectively replaced last season (ie Douglas for White, Joseph for Phillips, Murray for Hines, etc.) - there's still 17 bodies from the 53 that need to be replaced, with only 2 picks before the end of Round 4: Kyle Allen (Replaced by Mitch Trubisky) Damien Harris Latavius Murray Ty Johnson (Re-Signed Projection) Nyheim Hines (Not on the Roster Last Season) Gabe Davis Deonte Harty Trent Sherfield Quintin Morris (Re-Signed) Mitch Morse Ryan Bates David Edwards (Re-Signed) Leonard Floyd AJ Epenesa (Re-Signed Projection) Shaq Lawson Daquan Jones (Re-Signed Projection) Tim Settle Jordan Phillips Linval Joseph (Midseason Replacement for Phillips) Poona Ford Tyrel Dodson Tyler Matakevitch Tre White (Replaced by Douglas) Dane Jackson (Re-Signed Projection) Siran Neal Jordan Poyer Micah Hyde Taylor Rapp (Re-Signed) Cam Lewis (Re-Signed Projection) Like it or not, a good chunk of our money is going to have to go to depth players. As it is, with this projection - we'd be relying on 6 Rookies between the Draft and Undrafted Pool for the 53. That's already double the amount of Rookie players we had on the roster last year in Kincaid, Cybo, and Dorian. I know most fans are in the mind of "the window is closing - we have to get major difference makers now". But with the shape the roster is in, where we are cap wise, and where we're picking in the Draft - this year we're just going to have to do the best we can to fill the 53 with the best we can get across the board. Luckily, the core of what gets us to the dance is largely in place and the players we're replacing won't be difficult to upgrade with even conservative options.
  16. That's Josh's blind side. It doesn't matter how good he is at evading if he doesn't see it coming.
  17. They will have to make some concessions at some spots, probably starting with Snead this year. But the fact remains, they have it do it. It's not exactly "1m in cap space but managed to pull it off!" situation.
  18. Maybe if you're picked in the Top 10. To get an average to above average starter at DE at Pick 30 - you're doing pretty good.
  19. He's still grinding that "you guys hypothesized that maybe Beane might move Douglas" axe.
  20. Joe Marino from Locked on Bills does some really good work. I watch a lot of his stuff. He did a video the other day where he played the role of Brandon Beane and took the wheel in Free Agency. Broke things down pretty well in a realistic fashion, why each player fits, and included forecasted numbers from Pro Football Focus. Here's the video with Cliff notes below of the moves he suggested: Re-Structure QB Josh Allen - Saves 24m Re-Structure TE Dawson Knox - Saves 6m Re-Structure DT Ed Oliver - Saves 3.94m Extend OT Dion Dawkins - Saves 6.5m Extend CB Taron Johnson - Saves 4.4m 36.6m Under (+10.2m on 6/1 from Tre) Re-Sign DT Daquan Jones - 2 yr 12m Re-Sign DE AJ Epenesa - 3 yr 20.25m Re-Sign CB Dane Jackson - 1 yr 3m Re-Sign CB Cam Lewis - 1 yr 2m Re-Sign RB Ty Johnson - 1 yr 1.2m Sign DT Shelby Harris - 1 yr 3m Sign DT Greg Gaines - 1 yr 2m Sign DE Carl Lawson - 1 yr 3.5m Sign S Alohi Gilman - 2 yr 6m Sign S Ashtyn Davis - 1 yr 2m Sign C Brian Allen - (Forgets to say contract) Sign OT Kendall Lamm - 1 yr 1.5m Sign WR Noah Brown - 2 yr 7m Sign WR/KR Devin Duvernay - 2 yr 6m Sign RB Ezekiel Elliott - 1 yr 2.5m Sign LB Del'Shawn Phillips - 1 yr 1.5m
  21. Actually, they're 7.4m under and they'll get another 19.8m when they trade Snead, which is probably coming soon. Then they're 89.7m under next year.
  22. I mean, yeah. But we were signing guys like Trent Sherfield, Deonte Harty, David Edwards, Damien Harris, Latavius Murray, Kyle Allen, Taylor Rapp, Ty Johnson and Connor McGovern with Leonard Floyd being the biggest star of the bunch. We have even more holes to fill this season and even less than we had last season. We're still over the cap right now and the only thing we can guarantee by Day 1 right now is Josh's restructure. So we'll be continuing to do more signings "right up against it" just like last season. But there's a major difference between making signings "right up against it" and making MAJOR 32m aav signings "right up against it". It's going to be similar signings to last year. Guys in the lower to mid tiers, possible diamonds in the rough, and guys available late in FA that have to accept less. Nothing at the highest price tag right out of the gate.
  23. In the rotation, sure. That can happen. But the fact remains that for the cost of a Bosa or Mack as well as the options that will be available to them (neither is going to sign somewhere that they aren't Starting) - the Starters would def be Groot and Bosa/Mack. And the Starters get substantially more reps than the guys who cycle in.
  24. How many Kordell Stewart types have existed in the NFL since Kordell Stewart almost 30 years ago?
