  1. Yes, we needed someone to replace Tyrel Dodson. We have Milano and Bernard as our starters and Williams and Spector behind them - but nothing else, as Dodson, Matakevitch, and Klein are all FA's
  2. The most obvious move of the Offseason. I'm surprised it wasn't one of the first moves announced. They had a trade in place for him Midseason that got nixed at the last second by TEN's owner. They made it to the AFC Championship, free reign to mold the running game around him, cap to sign him, and wouldn't have to give up a pick this time.
  3. Higgins and Pittman came off the market weeks ago. Evans a number of days ago. I'm simply talking about the WR market at the start of FA. Davis is the only major one to come off the board. Calvin Ridley was considered on almost any list as more valuable than Gabe Davis and more expensive. Many had Hollywood Brown above Davis as well. Mooney will definitely be paid more than you'd think. Tyler Boyd, Curtis Samuel, OBJ, DJ Chark, Josh Reynolds, MVS, Mecole Hardman - a number of them are going to get paid decently as well. Don't think just because there wasn't much movement in the market today that everyone is just going to be signing 2nd and 3rd tier contracts now.
  4. I wouldn't call Day 2 of the legal tampering period, "The Second Wave of Free Agency". Especially when it comes to WR. Outside of Gabe Davis, there wasn't any big WR deals signed today. That market is still largely untouched.
  5. That's fair. I don't necessarily agree with Joe B. that he could start for us. I'd prefer another vet or a Top Prospect on Day 2 opposite Rapp. But I do think Lewis was re-signed as a Safety. And along with Rapp and Hamlin (at least for the time being) - I do think Starting Safety opposite Rapp is the only Safety hole we *currently* have.
  6. My guess is we'll see Dane Jackson return as Outside CB4 and Ty Johnson return as RB3. Maybe there's a fun move like a vet RB2 or a mid tier Outside WR3 with the potential to Start in the event that our Round 1 WR doesn't have his sea legs under him at the next level immediately. But I tend to agree he's probably laying low. Waiting for teams to spend their money and then fill some holes with the best of what's left, at decent prices.
  7. The weapon opposite Diggs will come in the Draft. Would you rather us have spent Round 1 on a Defensive Lineman? I'm sure you wouldn't have liked that either. Like it or not, these positions needed to be filled one way or the other.
  8. Yes, because he was essentially Safety 4 last season, playing being Hyde, Poyer, Rapp, and in place of Hamlin. While I doubt he'll Start, he probably will be Safety 3 this season. Just because he only took 144 snaps doesn't mean they don't feel he's in line for a promotion from that role this season. Saying you don't think Lewis can be Safety 3 based on his usage last season is like saying you don't think Rapp can start because he only took 421 snaps as a Safety last season compared to Poyer's 987.
  9. Cam Lewis is versatile and played more Safety than he did CB last season. And I'd suspect he was re-signed with Safety in mind. Joe Buscaglia has even predicted he could Start for us. Though I wouldn't go that far, I do think he's a Safety on the Depth Chart this season.
  10. Yes, there will be more additions. But they aren't going to be players that are bigger names or cost more than Jones. We didn't hand that money over to him to be rotational depth.
  11. I was pretty sure when it happened that Von's unexpected large cap saving move was done to ensure we kept them both. I'm glad they're both staying.
  12. I mean, with them specifically telling the media that the plan is to start McGovern at Center and have Edwards start in his place at Guard - I don't see Center being something they're going to address highly in the Draft. Maybe in the mid Rounds. But I don't see it being something done very high.
  13. Taylor Rapp covers 1 of our 2 starting Safety holes Daquan Jones covers our starting 1T hole AJ Epenesa covers the role of DE3/possible DE2 insurance in the event of Von being well and truly done This leaves our major holes being Starting WR opposite Diggs and Starting Safety opposite Rapp. There's other holes like Rotational DT's behind Oliver and Jones, RB2/3, WR4/5, DE4, MLB2, CB4, and Backup Interior OL and OT. But as far as Round 1 goes - it was always looking like WR and Free Agency thus far has emphasized it even more.
  14. "Rotation" doesn't mean that every player gets an equal amount of reps. The starters get the majority and the depth cycles in. DJ Reader or Sheldon Rankins are not signing somewhere where they aren't starting. And we wouldn't pay their cost or what we paid for Daquan Jones for rotational depth.
  15. The good news is we're covering holes that make WR in Round 1 more and more of a necessity. One of the two Starting Safety spots, the Starting 1T spot, and the DE3 spot/insurance to Von Miller. The bad news is that if you're someone who's hoping for something substantial in FA from other teams - that's getting less and less likely. Both from a standpoint of where we're at financially and covering 3 of the major holes already in house.
  16. Agreed. Big time options like Hollywood Brown or Calvin Ridley aren't signing here without assurances they're starting. And if we're paying for a big option like them or a Trade for someone like Courtland Sutton, in the situation we're in this year - that 1st Round Pick would have to go to another position. I'd rather have one of the top 7 guys in the Draft and a cheaper vet option than an expensive vet option and Mid to Late Round options in the Draft.
  17. Financials aside, are we sure Sutton is even available anymore? Prevailing feeling was that they'd trade away either Jeudy or Sutton, not both. After trading away Jeudy, I'm not convinced they want to leave the cupboard completely bare for the Rookie QB they'll be Drafting. Looking up Courtland Sutton on Google and Twitter, I'm not seeing anything about Denver shopping him. Just fans of other teams assuming they're completely selling off their assets.
  18. That's awesome, good for him! I worry about his ability to live up to that contract though, running behind Cinci's line vs. Indianapolis' line and offensive game planning specifically built for running Jonathan Taylor. I hope it works out for him though.
  19. Yeah, when they said "we need to get younger" - I can't imagine they meant swapping a guy who's turning 33 for a guy who's turning 31.
  20. Random dude on Twitter named Dick Trickle with 321 followers and no official job in the media - citing a "source" speaking on a meeting that's against league rules?
  21. That's not really how it works. Beane has prices he's willing to pay for guys. He'll call and feel it out. Give his number, maybe go back and forth a little, sign the guy if he likes it or pass if it's more than he's willing to go. He's not going to throw out a number he's not comfortable with or go after someone he doesn't have in his plans just to drive up the price for someone else and possibly be stuck with a deal he didn't want to do.
  22. We're somewhere between 5 and 7.5m under right now and have, give or take, about 14-15 roster spots unaccounted for, including multiple starters. As far as I can tell, there's really just an Ed Oliver restructure and a potential Taron Johnson extension, that may or may not come, as far as more savings go. Maybe a Milano or Diggs restructure? Having to make concessions on not getting the full restructure on Josh and not being able to come to terms on an extension for Douglas, settling on a small restructure instead really hurt our projected pool of spending money. In short, I wouldn't expect much more, if anything tonight. Though I'd love to be wrong.
  23. Damn. He was the player most often mentioned as a good fit for us for what we were looking for and price. Wonder what the price was.
  24. I'd imagine Dion's extension and Knox's restructure got us to the threshold. Josh then took us to around 16.5m under. Epenesa and Lewis' extension cut out 9. So we're probably close to 7.5m under give or take right now.
  25. Gabe Davis just got 13m per year on a 3 year deal that can go up to 50m. Ridley should get more than that, but he definitely won't get less.
