Am I the only one who's sick of Schopp and the Bulldog spending all week on the MAC tournament? They spent weeks worth of programming talking about the QB situation in Buffalo. Yet when we sign Kelly Holcomb, they talked about it for like 5 minutes yesterday! Then today they went on a rant about how the Bills piss them off and that local college basketball is where it's at.

I was wondering if anyone on this board listens to "NFL Access". According to someone on the BB board, they heard on the show that Ty Law is close to signing with us. Can anyone confirm or deny this report? http://boards.buffalobills.com/forums/inde...showtopic=44769

Yeah really! We could trade a 3rd to AZ for Shelton and then trade Henry to someone for a 3rd. Indirectly, the trade gets done.

He's been showing improvements and I don't think it's too much to ask a near 400 lb. man to drop some weight before training camp. Do you think we used the 4th overall pick in the draft for a guy to play Right Tackle his whole career?

The Shelton deal just isn't happening. I think its time we all come to grips with it. From all reports, it could have happened at one time but Travis had to be a jackass. They wanted him to play out the last year of his Bills contract and then evaluate at the end of the season. But he wanted to work a brand new deal. This gave Denny Green time to realize that he has a high pick in the first round for a guy like Cedric Benson or Cadillac Williams and that Travis isn't really the type of back he wants. Shelton is well on his way to Chicago by all reports. But the bottom line is, they just don't want Travis anymore. There's been rumblings for the past week. Sirius Radio confirmed it on one of their talk shows. There's also speculation from a couple members on different boards that they mentioned it on ESPN. Ty Law himself has said that Lawyer has been courting him. Honestly, I think there's too much speculation for it not to be true.

2003 is just the messenger. Then again, I might just be defending him because of the cowbell. True, there is no sources confirming anything. But if Ty were to sign, it would make sense. I'm not saying I agree with it, but it does make sense. Do you honestly think TD would re-sign Nate? He's a playmaker in his prime in a position that demands INSANE amounts of money. Knowing TD, he wouldn't even try. So if we did Tie (pun intended haha..... no) up Ty, why not try and get a high pick for him now? We might not need one next year, but we do this year. Again, i'm not saying I agree with it. I'm just saying that I could see it.

Wow, i'm shocked to see all these teams signing CB's while Ty Law is still on the market.

If you'd take a look at my post, you'd notice that I never mentioned the word "Bills" once. I never said we should sign him. I was simply asking what happened to him...... jackass.

Judging from the fact that the Bills officially announced that they signed him and WGR isn't even bothering to mention it, it's no bigger a deal than when we sign 7 Joe Shmo's at a time. But the BB board cracks me up with people saying, "Is he going to be our LT?"

I'm guessing depth. It says he started 4 games last year so it sounds to me like he's a reserve.

At one time this guy used to be considered a freak, a monster; a top-notch tackle. Now he's a Free Agent that no one gives two craps about. I haven't followed him or the Rams so I don't know what the deal is.... But what happened to him?

I realize that some of my views are a little out there. But to think that Nugent is going in the 1st round (or even a high 2) is a little out there in itself. I haven't seen a mock yet that has him even going in the 2nd. Now I realize Mocks aren't accurate, but I haven't seen ONE that has him close to even #32. He's good, but he's not Sebastian Janikowski coming out of college.

Explanations for pickups, etc: -Quincy Carter: A veteran STARTER at QB. A player who (talent-wise) is in the prime of his career. He's not like this list of QB's who are on the downside of their careers (I.E. Kurt Warner, Vinny Testeverde, Neil O'Donnel, etc.). Yes, he does have off the field problems; but that doesn't mean jack on the field. Let the guy spend time in rehab during the offseason (which he is doing) and then focus on football during the season. He's obviously not going to be a starter anywhere and will be very cheap. The ideal place for him to go would be backing up an unstable starter or a rookie. We don't need a "mentor" QB because that's why we have Sam Wyche. -Jason White: Here's a guy with GREAT leadership qualities. He's a winner. But because of a few scout "questions", this Heisman winner will drop. Right now we have J.P. and nothing else. After signing a veteran, I think we need to draft another QB to be a career backup; AVP style. No one fills that bill better than Jason White. -Maurice Clarrett: Geesh, am I going to get flamed for this one. I was reading TD's comments and interest in Maurice at the combine today and it got me thinking. Just like Quincy, this kid is not going to be a starter anywhere. He's gotten himself in great shape and according to reports, has been impressing scouts with his new attitude. This means he's gone from being a very late pick (perhaps not even drafted) to being a 4th rounder. We need to have another RB back there and he'd be a good guy to come in and compliment Willis. If he turns out to be a star, then we ship him out at a later date for a higher pick. If he becomes a problem child again, it was just a 4th round pick. -Freddie Jones: A solid veteran, starting TE whose talent was wasted in Arizona. Bubba Franks was a nice thought, but he was tagged as most thought he would be and even if he wasn't he'd be too much money for a position that isn't our most important need. Freddie Jones would be an asset. -Keeping Josh Reed: I think he should be given another chance. His rookie year was very promising. Unfortunately, the switch from being #3 WR to #2 didn't work out well. Then we took him from 2 back to 3, gave him a brand new scheme, and coaching staff to work with. I say we give him another year. He was practically a #1 pick. If he were our #1 or #2 guy maybe I wouldn't say that. But as a #3 and with another solid TE in Jones, why take the cap hit and spend more money to bring in a reciever just to play #3? I think the upside far outweighs the down in keeping Josh. But if he doesn't work in 2005, then we let him go. L.J. Shelton: From what I read, we should be seeing the Henry for Shelton trade completed any day now. Here's another guy whose talent was wasted in Arizona. I think all he needs is a change of scenery and some help around him and this guy will be a STUD. Plus, his price tag with Arizona is rather cheap. Jermane Newberry: It's no secret that we need another solid guard. Phili has already made it clear that they don't expect him back. Newberry is one of the top guards in the league. Carter will cost close to nothing. Shelton and Jones will come cheap. Newberry and Pat Williams will be where most of our cap space will go. Antonio Perkins: Another CB is neccessary. But not to the point that we drop a butt-load of money on Ty Law. We just need another guy to be #2 or #3 and we'll be solid there. Perkins was a good quality, star corner in college. He (realistically) will be the best corner available with our top pick. Mike Nugent: I don't think this needs any explanation. I expect him to go no earlier than early in the 3rd. He should be available with our 3rd pick. If need be, we should trade up in the 3rd if we think he'll be taken before our pick. Don't flame me too bad guys.......

He's a Free Agent this year, that's where all this talk is coming from.

Because he can play. Let him sit in rehab for a couple months during the offseason. He can kick his problems there and come back strong. I guarantee that's what his intentions are. That stuff doesn't matter when he hits the field.

When I first heard about the release of Drew, I wasn't shocked. But I wasn't happy about it either. Although Drew dropped the ball in the last game of the season, he played moderately well in the Bills winning streak. I feel that J.P. will be good. But I think he needs at least a year and a half before we put him out there. Although he didn't play last season, he was injured through half of the year. So he's only really had a half year of training when we were told it would be around a two year project. I thought that it couldn't have hurt any to have had an open competition in training camp. If J.P. beat Drew out, then he could start and i'm sure Drew wouldn't have been happy. But at least then we'd have a competant veteran waiting in the wings if J.P. didn't work or got injured. Or better yet, let drew start the year and if he even began to show signs of unimprovement (even in the first game), then start J.P. These are all ways that we could have kept them both for at least this year. I am upset that after all the promise that we showed near the end of last season that we're gambling that by putting someone with zero experience behind center. I would be fine with this if we bring in someone just as competant or better than Drew to back him up or at least COMPETE with Losman. Starting a rookie and having him being backed up by Shane Matthews is a joke. If we're going to start J.P. Losman, then I think I know the guy i'd want behind him. I know when I say it, most of you are going to crucify me. So just hear me out first. The guy i'd be comfortable bringing in is Quincy Carter. Although the guy is chock full of personal problems, that doesn't matter on the football field. He's obviously not going to be a starter this year as a result of some of his off the field problems. But talent wise, Carter could start almost anywhere. He's not like most of the guys on the market whose best days are behind them. Carter is in his prime. Last year he was called upon to win a couple key games for the Jets and he got them into the playoffs. Let J.P. start and have Quincy on the bench just in case J.P. gets hurt or struggles so badly that we need to make a switch to save the season. Like I said, he's not going to start anywhere this season. The best situation for him would be to go somewhere that he has the chance to see the field and compete. Buffalo needs a veteran who can still play. If given the opportunity, I think Quincy Carter would not dissapoint. Sign him for a year, it couldn't hurt. Keep Matthews at #3. Another thing that i'd feel comfortable with (that would probably never happen) would be to have Jeff Garcia come in for a year and try to take this team to the playoffs while J.P. trained and groomed to take over the next year. Call me crazy, but i'm just not ready to hand the reigns over to someone who was drafted just last year and missed half the season with a broken leg. Not without someone competant behind him. If J.P. goes down, do you trust your season with Shane Matthews?
