Because he was always brought in knowing he was going to sign to the Practice Squad. Being a veteran, he doesn't go through Waivers. So they agreed to a PS spot deal before they could do it. In the meantime, they had open spots on the 90 man roster and while on the active roster, he could use the facilities and work with the team and coaches yesterday and today until he was released. Basically came in yesterday and started working and won't miss any time in the building while being moved from the 90 to the PS, where he always knew he was going to end up.

He's 33 years old and over the past 5 seasons has played a total of 29 games and had just 5 starts. "Miles ahead of Rapp" is just an insane take. The player of 2013-2018, sure. But this isn't that same player anymore. He hasn't been that guy since tearing his ACL in 2019. On top of that, he'd have to learn the Defense and Playbook on the fly. He'd have to be taught the Defense during the regular season, when they have a million other things going on. At this point, they're only going to do that with guys who have the potential to be big time impact players or if they're ravaged with injuries. They're going to go with the guys they've had working with the Playbook all off-season. There's absolutely no way they'd move even Hamlin off the roster for Jefferson. Maybe a Practice Squad spot, but even that is pretty unlikely, given his age and the learning curve he'd have here. They're not going to develop a 33 year old Safety into this squad.

First off, it's more than 7m. It's over 8.6m. And never sees the field? He missed a total of 3 games last season. 4 games over the last 3 years. He was used sparingly, as he battled turf toe to start the season - which like a hamstring is a kiss of death for WR efficiency. And do you think that KJ Hamler or Laviska Shenault would see the field more than Curtis Samuel? No, Hamler or Shenault would be most likely inactive unless there were an injury.

There's 2 huge differences there: 1.) He became a Cancer for the team where we were left with pretty much no choice to remove him from the environment. 2.) We were able to trade him for a 2nd Round Pick. If a team was willing to take on his contract and relieve us of over 7m in Cap Space, best believe we would have considered it. These two situations aren't remotely comparable.

Anyone who was saying that simply wanted anyone but Hamlin to make the roster and was over hyping them for that reason.

Not a surprise at all. We've got 1 CB near the top of the Depth Chart on IR (to return) and another that is no guarantee to start Week 1. If anything, it was a little bit of a (pleasant) surprise that we didn't keep Ingram and Jackson. Says to me they don't expect White to miss much time, if at all.

Real simple on Samuel, unless someone wanted to trade for him he was going to be here. We'd be paying over 8.6m for him not to be here as a cut. People like to point to O.J. Howard being cut, cutting Samuel would be the monetary equivalent of cutting practically THREE O.J. Howard's. Yes, we'll every once in a Blue moon cut someone with some guaranteed money. But there's a limit to how much guaranteed money we're willing to throw away. When you're on the hook for that much, you might as well try and get something out of him. And i'd rather take an injury risk Curtis Samuel over a K.J. Hamler or Laviska Shenault - especially when we're already paying for him. Dewayne Carter was a Day 2 Pick last season. If you saw something in the player to spend a Round 3 Pick on them, you shouldn't give up on Day 2 Picks after only 1 season of development.

Not even a little bit of a surprise. We brought back everyone from last year's Safety room. Jordan Hancock showed a quick aptitude for Safety. And Hamlin's contract was fully guaranteed. Cutting him would result in a 750k loss in general Cap and 2 million in Dead Cap. Plus, regardless of how fans feel about him, McDermott trusts him. Forrest was a longshot to begin with. When they Drafted Hancock and started playing him at Safety, it was all over.

I'd imagine they'll add Dane Jackson to the Practice Squad and if he's not ready by Week 1 or 2, they'll call him up to go alongside Christian Benford, Ja'Marcus Ingram, and Dorian Strong.

He won't be coming here, as has been discussed with the injuries we have at CB. After turning them down earlier in the off-season, he changed his mind. Must have not had a better option.

I think it shows that White won't be put on IR to Return and likely won't miss more than a week or two, at most. They roll with Dorian Strong and Ja'Marcus Ingram and call up Dane Jackson from the PS for a week or two, until Tre returns. If needed at all.

Moore did one Return all Pre-Season and didn't do much of it during Training Camp. Coleman hasn't taken a single return since becoming a Bill. Khalil Shakir is dealing with a High Ankle Sprain and just got out of wearing a Boot. He may suit up for us Week 1, but I don't think they're going to push him to do Returns. With the new rules this year, Kick Return is going to be very important. While I understand the concept of wanting to fit certain positional players into the depth chart - I don't think this regime is the type to go "we'll figure it out, just throw someone back there". Brandon Codrington, Laviska Shenault, and KJ Hamler handled pretty much all of the Return game during Training Camp and the Pre-Season. I don't see a way that they cut all of them. Likely, Codrington won the gig and is the one that sticks. Even last year when no one impressed them on Returns, they went out, traded for, and rostered Codrington specifically for the role. And the Return game was negligible last year compared to this one.

Even when I saw what was posted, I still couldn't wrap my head around it. It just made zero sense to roster a 33 year old Jordan Phillips, who spent all off-season on the couch. Bad look for Ryan Talbot to specifically make a point of saying the signing was 'to the Bills 53 man roster, NOT the practice squad". At least he realizes it was a dumb move to run with that before he got the full details.

I think he is who would be brought in if they both are to miss more than a couple games. But I think it would be depth and he wouldn't be my choice. But this regime constantly values experience in the Defense over talent. It's why we keep bringing back Jordan Phillips. It's why we dug up the bones of Josh Norman. I personally think Douglas is toast. But I know they'd turn to him over anyone else first. Especially this close to the start of the regular season. They wouldn't trust someone new to come in and quickly get down his scheme. And/or they don't want to put in the extra work of teaching someone the Defense with everything else they're focusing on. I personally would bring in someone else. But realistically, I know they wouldn't do that.

Who's your Return man?

For Bass? Each Kicker has a different preference for how the ball is held. And as far as the games go, he held for Ray Davis and Caden Davis. Bass returned for Game 3 and Robbins was out for Game 3.

Robbins' aptitude as a "Holder" for Bass is also relatively unknown. Bass missed most of Training Camp and 2/3 of the Pre-Season. When Bass returned in the Final Pre-Season game, Robbins was out with an illness.

A number of higher profile Punter's have been released. Wouldn't shock me at all if Brad Robbins wasn't released if a Punter they liked more was available:

It's possible they keep 2 QB's on the PS or White wants to try his luck on a different teams PS. Outside chance someone picks him up bc the Backup situation on some teams is atrocious. But if he wants to be our #3 on the PS and we're only keeping 3, it's going to be White. Him sitting the last game speaks more volumes to me than how Buechele performed against the players on the Bucs squad, who will also be on the street come Tuesday.
