It just wasn't a fit. We needed Outside guys. We had Khalil Shakir who lives in the Slot, Dalton Kincaid who is in the Slot more than at TE, and Curtis Samuel who is 50/50 inside outside. On the Outside, we had Curtis Samuel 50% of the time, Mack Hollins.... and that's it. Would have made no sense to add another Slot WR and take reps away from Shakir when we had that covered and desperately needed help on the Outside. As it is, even with Drafting Coleman - we STILL needed to add another Outside guy in Cooper. McConkey's a great player, but he wasn't what we needed. It would be like us Drafting a Nickel CB this coming Draft with Taron Johnson in house and needing to find a replacement for Rasul Douglas.

Emmanuel Forbes CB- Waived by Washington

You're taking one extreme and exchanging it for another. Is Benford "the best CB in the NFL"? No. But to say he's "nothing more than a product of our defense" is swinging the argument pendulum in the other direction completely. He's without question better than other guys who have started for us like Levi Wallace or Dane Jackson. He's better than any other CB this regime has Drafted with the exception of Tre White in his prime, pre ACL and Achilles. Take into account his age and his bill of health and he's one of the most valuable assets on the team at one of the leagues most valuable positions. If he were simply a "product of our defense" - then any CB could perform at the level he does on this team. And that's simply not the case. Guys like Jackson became expendable bc of his presence on the team. Guys like Elam would have been the star they were expected to be. Other CB's would perform at his level. They don't because he is far more talented than just being a good fit. -

If he wants to join our Practice Squad, sure. But we're not going to keep 7 CB's on the 53 and we're not going to cut any of Douglas, Benford, Taron, Ingram, or Codrington. And even in the case of Elam, I doubt they'd want to cut one First Round bust CB that has had years in the system and knows the playbook for another First Round bust CB who doesn't. -
Matt Milano Officially Activated from IR

Calling out LB and DT before Safety is wild to me. IMO it's far and away the weakest. Rapp is our best Safety and he's played well, but he's not an All Pro or a Pro Bowler. And beyond that, we're starting Damar Hamlin and underneath them is Cole Bishop who hasn't looked great (although I give him a pass this season because he's a Rookie learning a complicated system and missed all of Training Camp and the Pre-Season) and Cam Lewis (who has performed well in spot duties, but isn't Starting material). -

Yes, we've been at 52 for a little while now. He is activated straight up without needing to release anyone. -
He put a ring on Spider-Gwen/Kate Bishop. Josh always wins.

Especially when he doesn't have to. The teams reportedly interested are in the double digits. Meandering teams are offering him the opportunity to start. He wants to go to a Contender. But there are contending teams like Baltimore and Minnesota who will give him a spot on the 53 and the Backup gig. Anyone who thinks he's going to pass up another contender's 53 man roster spot and unquestioned Backup gig to replace Mike White on our Practice Squad is drinking the Kool Aid a little too much.

If that's all it was, they got The Sporting News: https://www.sportingnews.com/us/nfl/buffalo-bills/news/bills-considered-top-landing-spot-daniel-jones- /aa920ebdad748afddea4a242 I still would be shocked if Jones came here. Either way, sounds like we'll know tomorrow where he's going. It appears he's zeroed in on his choice:
-
He's not going to sign with a Practice Squad. He has many different options. Reportedly 10 teams or more are interested. There are meandering teams offering him the chance to start this year, like the Raiders - who he's reportedly turned down. There's playoff teams like the Ravens who are interested and have a less than stellar backup in Josh Johnson. The difference between a Practice Squad paycheck and a 53 man roster paycheck is MASSIVE. He's not going to sign on here for PS pennies on the dollar when he can easily play for another Playoff team that will make him the immediate backup on the 53.

Yeah, this is why I see Douglas as unlikely. Unless he has less of a market than is expected. Extending Benford will be the priority and like you said, a must. Taron Johnson in the Nickel is signed long term. Ja'Marcus Ingram has shown up big in spot duty. Kaiir Elam will also be here for one more year. I see us signing a relatively inexpensive (compared to the market) under the radar vet that McDermott believes is a perfect fit for his scheme and then Drafting a guy somewhere on Day 2 or Day 3 and holding a competition for Douglas' replacement.

There will be 2 compensatory picks for Gabe Davis and Leonard Floyd. Initially projected at a 4th and a 5th - but Gabe Davis not lasting the year may have an effect on his projected 4th: https://overthecap.com/compensatory-picks As others have said, Rasul Douglas will get much more than that, even at his age. If not here, than elsewhere. If we were to retain him - which i'd be surprised if we did, he would continue to start. Kinda confused by the prediction of re-signing him and than listing wanting an upgrade over him. The rest of it looks very good. Awesome job! It would be front loaded or back loaded with void years and an out after 2 years. Our FA contracts with older veterans always have an out. If they don't re-sign Cooper, then we'll be looking for another similar caliber player at WR. Keon Coleman started coming on before the injury and Curtis Samuel seems to have started to bounce back from his. But Shakir, Coleman, and Samuel are the only WR's we have under contract after this year. And I think you'd be playing a dangerous game running back what we started the year with this year and hoping it works better this time around. Especially when you consider the improvement of Coleman and Samuel is at least partially predicated on a player of Cooper's caliber taking attention away from them. WR is one of the harder positions in football to acclimate yourself to from the College to the NFL level. So letting Cooper go and Drafting a guy as his replacement is also a risky proposition. Cooper seems to like it here and his impact (when healthy) has been a pretty big one. At the current juncture, I'd be surprised if they don't get something done with him. But we'll still have to see how things continue down the stretch.

We aren't going to replace Mitch Trubisky, who we just signed on a 2 year deal worth 5.25m with 3.71m guaranteed, for anyone this season. There's a chance they move on from him after this year, but I still think it's probably more likely they approach him for a paycut which he accepts, if anything at all. They like him in the QB room, regardless of what fans think of his Pre-Season performance. Daniel Jones probably isn't happening and Aaron Rodgers ABSOLUTELY isn't happening. Even if they released him, which they won't. At most, they're going to IR him for the rest of the year. Rodgers wouldn't sign on to be a backup and Buffalo wouldn't want that kind of ego and loose cannon in the press in their QB room to begin with. Especially with how beat up he is and how badly he's been playing this year. I'd imagine they view the QB room is set this year with Mitch Trubisky and Mike White as Josh's backups. I don't see them bringing along someone new this late in the season. As much as fans bemoan Trubisky, there's a good many teams that are way worse behind their starter than Trubisky and White. And I don't believe the Buffalo decision makers view Trubisky in the same light that posters do. Especially with the contract they gave him.

People are giving more legs to the phrase "being involved in big games" than it actually has. It isn't suggesting he's going to come in and take over for Lamar Jackson (obviously) or Sam Darnold. Just that he'd be on the sidelines, in the QB room, and be called upon if there's an injury, in "big games". It's really not that crazy that Baltimore would prefer Daniel Jones over Josh Jackson, if something were to happen to Lamar. Or that Minnesota would prefer Jones over Nick Mullens, if something were to happen to Sam Darnold. Especially with Schefter reporting they're in on it and Minnesota's Head Coach not shutting it down:

Yeah, the idea of benching either Caleb or Maye in their Rookie year is crazy talk. I agree about Vegas definitely, as well as Dallas. Tennessee - maybe. Depends on if they're ready to call Will Levis a failed experiment already. Carolina? They're already benched Bryce Young once. Now that he's gotten the job back, you don't bench him a 2nd time unless you're good and truly ready to turn the page on last year's #1 Pick.
-
Yep. And there are some teams that are nowhere at QB right now. But no one's going to pick up the remainder of his contract. He'll clear waivers and end up somewhere like Dallas or Las Vegas for the remainder of the year. To the OP's subtitle - I don't see it. Although he is almost literally Mitch Trubisky 2.0, Mitch's route of Redshirting himself for a year on a team where he has practically a 0% chance of seeing the field following being a long term starter isn't a common one. If he doesn't stick with whatever team grabs him this season, he'll more likely sign on with a team that is Drafting a Rookie QB, a team that has a shaky starter, a team that is bringing in vets for a competition, a team that has a QB coming off injury or who is often injured. Buffalo fits none of those and that's why our Backup options are usually not great. As it is, we'd have to release Mitch first - which I don't see as being likely either. We signed him to a 2 year 5.25m dollar deal of which 3.71m was guaranteed. As is often the case, the board's feeling on a player doesn't always match up with the front office. And I think Mitch is one of those cases. I think they'd much sooner ask him to take a pay cut than outright cut him - if anything at all.

The thing's that were worriesome to me about Worthy are showing up in his Rookie season. He's too small and not physical. If you jam him at the point of attack, you can disrupt him easily. He also had a lot of one foot in catches in College. And as we saw on Sunday, he hasn't gotten that down yet in his head. I'm still flabergasted that he was that wide open, made the catch, and didn't think to drag his feet.

Terrance Gray a candidate for Jets GM job?
BillsFanForever19 replied to vtnatefootball11's topic in The Stadium Wall
This isn't surprsing. While some fans on the board talk ish about Brandon Beane - he's considered one of the very best, if not the best, GM's in the NFL. And just like a Coaching Tree, teams want to get up and comers who have worked under him closely. That's why Brian Gaine was hired as the Houston Texans GM (although he was later fired), Joe Schoen was hired as the New York Giants GM, and Dan Morgan was hired as the Carolina Panthers GM (as @Sierra Foothills reminded me). Guys are always going to be plucked from our Front Office because of the respect Brandon Beane has garnered league wide. -

Musical Edits to Josh's "Play of the Year"
BillsFanForever19 replied to BillsFanForever19's topic in The Stadium Wall
Fellow music nerd myself. I was actually working in a Record Store when the song came out. Funny thing is much like Warren Beatty to Carly Simon's "You're so Vain" and Dave Coulier to Alanis Morissette's "You Oughtta Know" - there is a very strong urban legend that Matthew Gray Gubler (Criminal Minds' Dr. Spencer Reid) is the guy that was hooking up with Brandon Flowers' girl lol It's probably that music "nerd" in me that won't let someone say "you're wrong, the song isn't about that and is actually about this". Got me all... -
Musical Edits to Josh's "Play of the Year"
BillsFanForever19 replied to BillsFanForever19's topic in The Stadium Wall
Yes - that's where the disconnect and argument is. I loved the Killers when I was younger. I own most of their albums. Again, I don't have a problem with the team and fans enjoying the song - singing and dancing to it. It doesn't have to make sense. It's catchy and pumps people up. But to say steadfast that the song *isn't* about "someone banging your chick" as OP put it and is only about "reaching your ultimate destiny" is just factually incorrect. Is there other messages in the song - such as getting past it? Yes. But the lyrical content of 75% of the song is about that and Brandon Flowers himself has said that's what it's about and getting cheated on was the sole reason he wrote the song. Even if you argue it's about "looking at the brightside" and overcoming someone "banging your chick" - it's still about someone "banging your chick". Again, go nuts. If fans and the team like it as an anthem, cool. But it is funny when you consider the lyrical content, inspiration for the song, and general interpretation of the meaning. Which is all OP and I were saying.
