  1. On the good side of all this, he has far fewer things to work on in the coming year. He's shown the ability to repair things that needed fixing and I'm thinking he continues this in the offseason. For example, after the first NE, he worked hard on not making those stupid throws. Sometimes, there is only so much you can work on at one time. He had a great deal to learn about being an NFL QB in his first two years and now...not quite as much. If he keeps working on his deficiencies, e.g. hitting his long passes, the improvement will continue.
  2. When my boys were in Scouts, I remember being at a camp out and the Troop leader was talking about their "legal defense fund". He had an uncle or something who was high up on the national council and told him the fund was several hundred million dollars for keeping gays from becoming scout leaders. When I brought up that the Supreme Court had already decided the issue, he kinda poo-pooed it and claimed that they needed the fund to fight off lawsuits by gays demanding to be leaders. I think he got a little misinformation. It was really a settlement account for the abuse lawsuits. IDK, when my boys were in, I thought they took decent preventive measures. There was a video that every parent had to watch before going on an outing with the boys regarding the Rule of 2. (2 adults needed to be present whenever they were with a boy.). With that troop, it was easier, because you had a good deal of parental and volunteer activity. Another good rule they had was that boys slept on one side of the camping area, adults on the other. If there were any problems, I hadn't heard about it.
  3. Day One Jedrick Willis OT Alabama - I only say this because I did a mock draft last week and he somehow fell to 22. He gets installed at RT, Ford moves to guard and the OL just became better in both run and pass blocking. He'll never fall that low. Ruggs might fall that low though. If not, one of the bigger WRs. Day Two Denzel Mims - WR Baylor The concern was whether he could get off the line, but might have partially ended those concerns at the Senior Bowl. He had a great week. Some said his stock rose higher than any player there. He was productive in college, he's got size and great hands. He'd be a fit. Day 3 Shaquille Quarterman - LB MIami He wouldn't be the choice of many for LB....but there's something about him. He might be a liability in pass D...maybe..possibly. But he's not exactly slow and he can be used in short area zone. On the other hand...he can move through a blitz lane when called on. Most importantly, when he hits a ball carrier, forward progress ends. A two time 1st team All ACC player, puts up about 90 tackles per year, team captain and emotional leader. A McD type of player. If you're looking for a guy to back you up in a brawl, its him. So yeah, I'd want him on my team.
  4. My dad used to say that when I was a kid. Things like, "the Comet is nice, but it wasn't anything compared to the Cyclone. " I put those comments in the same category of how far he had to walk to school or how bad the blizzards were in the 30s and 40s. Then I found this 10 years ago or so and realized he wasn't telling tales. There's a certain element of every thrill ride where you say, "will this thing fall apart?" that adds to the excitement. In that category, the Cyclone scores an A+. Besides the bank turns and the twisting drops, it don't look like the most stable ride.
  5. Eh, I don't mind him giving back to someone who was taking a shot at him pre-game. On the other hand, afterward, I would have rather heard something like this: "My job on the two sacks was about as easy as a lineman could hope. I wasn't blocked on either sack, all I had to do was chase the QB. The props go to the coaching, the scheme and my teammates who created the situation for me to go in untouched. " (Yeah, I know, that sounds boring). They mentioned in the game yesterday that something like 16 different players on the Bills have a sack this season. That's a pretty incredible figure, considering they only have 32. (actually that's a good figure.). In many, many cases, they are scheming pass rushers open. A number of Phillips' sacks came from a stunt or a twist where he went in untouched. In this season, more than others, sacks are a product of scheme as much as individual effort.
  6. NASA scientists in Antarctica test a new undersea rover to search for alien life deep under the icy surface of Jupiter’s moon Europa The small rover is being designed for the harsh underwater environments Scientists are testing the rover under the ice in Antarctica The rover has two wheels, two cameras, and run for several months on a char https://www.dailymail.co.uk/sciencetech/article-7712451/NASA-scientists-Antarctica-test-new-rover-intended-search-alien-life-Europa.html Little ducks, there's trouble on Europa. So they called us. And we're going over there and bringing the most lethal killing machine ever devised.
  7. They were there, they just weren't used. It was one of the reasons that Rashad wanted out. They went in one direction when Lou Saban got here. He rebuilt the Oline, using firsts on Joe D and Paul Seymour. Seymour was a college OT who they moved to TE. He was basically a 3rd OT. They brought in Bubba Braxton, who was about as big as most OL during the day. So they basically had an extra OT and OG on the field on every play. Rashad and Hill were both fitted with full face masks for blocking purposes. Even in an era where teams were run heavy, the Bills took it to another level. They were last in the league in passing attempts by a large margin. They probably could have passed, they just didn't.
  8. One of the articles cited in the Wiki page really provides a good explanation of how the body compensates for lack of binocular vision. https://www.nytimes.com/1983/09/13/science/visual-cues-compensate-for-blindness-in-one-eye.html?pagewanted=all I'm legally blind n my right eye as well and have been since birth. I really don't have a reference for depth perception, since I've never had it. It isn't like you see things in 2D. You can see an object is 10 feet away or 20 feet away. When I played in high school, it was mostly OL and DL. The only real handicap I could say was, as a nose tackle, not always catching someone blocking from my right. When I got moved to FB my senior year, my RB coach used to call me "boards" because he said my hands were like two boards. So they just wouldn't throw it to me during a game. How much of that was due to lack of depth perception, idk, it might be that I just sucked at catching things. pfft..not sure what they expected, I was an interior lineman the whole time I played the game.
  9. Teams average less than 4.0 per carry when running up the middle against the Bills, which is 7th in the NFL. https://www.footballoutsiders.com/stats/dl/2019#main-content I'm not sure where the liability part comes in.
  10. The irony is that a KC church was planning a service to pray for Mahomes' ankle. https://fox4kc.com/2019/10/16/prairie-village-church-to-hold-prayer-services-for-mahomes-injured-ankle/ The Lord moves in mysterious ways, I guess.
  11. Damn, they shouldn't have put Peterman in at QB in the 2nd half.
  12. the Grapes of Wrath. Its about as dusty a movie as you can get, at least until Interstellar came out.
  13. If you're buying a chimney (and yes, it is the only way to go)..buy the Weber one and not the cheap knock offs. I bought one once for about $5.00 but sometimes the fire would go out before the coals were lit. They fall apart quicker also. As to wood chips, soak them for a half hour before, then make sure to shake off the excess water. It adds smoke and keeps the chips smoldering longer. For slow and low cooking, I don't know how the Minion Method works for your type of grill, but it works great on a Weber Kettle grill. (Use wood chunks, not chips with this method and intersperse them in your pile of coals. https://virtualweberbullet.com/fireup2.html If I do ribs, I can keep the temp at 225 -250 for at least 6 hours without lifting the lid. Experiment with it, have fun. Trust me, you can do a lot more than burgers and hot dogs with it.
  14. Yeah, I agree with the idea of letting them if they want to play. My oldest wanted to and went from flag to Pop Warner, junior high and 4 years of high school. He liked it and was pretty dedicated. He put on about 70 lbs, mostly muscle, during high school. But he also realized that most colleges don't use 240 lb offensive linemen and his body was maxed out bulk wise. He was a shy kid and I think football really helped build his confidence. My youngest...sigh. He would be the tackler in the video of the OP. I know because I coached my oldest's flag team for 2 years, and that's what my youngest would do if I put him in a practice scrimmage if we were short handed. It didn't matter to him that the other kids were 2-3 years older or that tackling wasn't allowed in flag football. I used to call him my LB in training. But he had no desire to play. In junior high, the coaches approached him repeatedly about joining. When he started high school, he told me the head coach trapped him on the first day and spent a 1/2 hour trying to convince him to join. I never pushed it. We had my oldest on a one concussion rule. If he got one, his career was over and he knew it. Luckily, he never got one. IDK, he had a friend that he played together with from flag football to high school. A very good kid with really nice parents. But the kid had 3 concussions that I knew of, plus a seizure disorder. The parents never stopped him from playing. His senior year, the coach cut him under some pretense, but my oldest said it was really out of a concern for his health. He ended up transferring to another school.
  15. Maybe, maybe not. We pay a $7.00 per month local broadcast fee as a part of our Uverse bill, out of a monthly charge in excess of $130.00. And the local broadcast charge stays despite them taking away two of our local stations (Fox and NBC). ATT is losing subscribers at rate of about 1 million per quarter for DTV and Uverse. When I went to the ATT support boards, it is repleat with comments of how happy people had been with DTV until they were bought by ATT. Uverse has been declining for years. Its basically filled with informercials and multiple listings for one station. Give it a year or two and all you'll get is HBO and 24 hour Bugs Bunny stations. The local transmission fees are what ATT are telling everyone is the problem, but I really don't believe them. They've become a monster and not a good one at that.
  16. We still have a few days of Uverse left. We're going to try Playstation Vue, it seems to have the best channel lineup. We'll probably give Youtube Tv a try also. Its going to be $80 less per month plus we get the 2 local channels back that ATT won't pay for and the NFLN back. The ATT sponsored "support forums" are hilarious. They just blame everyone else and tell their subscribers to suck it up. It actually reminds me of when we dumped AOL for DSL in the 90's. When cancelling, AOL was asking "why are you leaving?" I could only respond, "idk, because service is 5 times faster, doesn't tie up your phone and is less than half the price." Ah, the memories.
  17. /shrugs... He also had 4 90+ yard games out of his last 7 in the NFL, as a rookie. His deep ability, coupled with Brown's, isn't something you want to keep off the field very long. They draw away safeties, opening up underneath stuff and down the seams. If a DB bites even slightly on PA, one of those 2 are ready to pounce. He was easily the most pleasant surprise on O last year and brings a skill that can't be taught. Use him.
  18. We know most of our immediate neighbors, those adjacent and across the street. Most are nice people. Its nothing like where I grew up though. Everyone knew everyone. Even today, I can go back to my mom's house and remember the name of everyone who lived on our street, five houses either way, everyone on the street behind us, 90% of those who lived on the street connected to the street behind us, and half of the people who lived on the street beyond that one. Hell, there was a mafia kingpin on the last street mentioned. We'd have a neighborhood block party every year with about 100-150 people who attended. Times were different in suburbia back in the60's and 70s
  19. A few of us went to see Apollo 11 tonight at the theater. During the lunar descent scene, I leaned over to my wife and said, "see, even Neil Armstrong drives with the Service Engine Soon light on and the gas gauge approaching E."
  20. This is why you don't do business with Big Paulie.
  21. mmhmm... we're cutting the cord on Uverse at the end of the month. ATT has become brutal. Its almost as if they are deliberately driving people away. When they refused to pay for 2 of our local networks (NBC and Fox), it was pretty much the last straw. They've become a leviathan that acts like a third rate basement operation. Of course, when I've said that on their "uverse community" site, I got a warning...lol. One little 3rd world trick is in billing. We still pay a few of our bills via paper check and snail mail. With most, it has been fine. But with ATT, it has become a farce. The statement arrives usually on the 17th via mail, on the 16th via email. But the "statement date" is the 4th. The due date is the 26th. And when the check is mailed to their PO Box in Indiana, it takes forever to cash. Other bills mailed on the same day, both in state and out of state are invariably cashed first. With ATT, you have to mail the payment, literally on the same day, to have them cash it before the due date. If not, they add on another $10.00 to a late fee. We're going to try Youtube TV and see how it goes. 70 channels for $50.00. We'll get back the NFLN and local stations that way. That's about a third of what we're paying ATT.
  22. I've never looked to see if there was a McClusky Street, a McClusky Park or a McClusky statue in Buffalo. He certainly earned it. As to the movie trailer..meh..it doesn't need an Emmerlich trying to create more action. Taking down 4 carriers in a day is action enough. I'm boring...I've always appreciated something like this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1w30FkSXyTE
  23. Damn, that's a good list by Rolling Stone. The Who-Live at Leeds is probably right where it should be, in the top 5. I love the inclusion of Muddy Waters at Newport. Allman Brothers at Fillmore East would make it just on the strength of Whipping Post alone. If someone not on the list can make it on one song alone...Janis Joplin, Ball and Chain, Monterey .
  24. Agreed. There's a place inthemiddleofnowhere, KS that does this type of thing. The crown jewel of the exhibits is the Apollo 13 CM. The also restored the Liberty Bell after it was hoisted from ocean's depths. There is some pre-Apollo things, a few rockets from the late 50's early 60's, a replica of a LEM, a moon rover, etc. They also have a decent planetarium, an IMAX, a science lab and lots of educational programs, including a number of space camps. Its a big field trip destination in KS. **Edit** I didn't realize...The Kansas Cosmosphere did the restoration work on the mission control center Cosmo.org
  25. When I was teaching my oldest to drive, one of the first times on the road, I was giving him the defensive driving lecture, watching out for other drivers doing stupid things. Sure enough, a guy coming the other way took a left hand turn in front of him...about 3-5 seconds after the turn arrow turned red. My son had to hit his brakes pretty good to avoid a crash. Afterward, he said, "OK, I get it." I could only say, "so endeth the lesson."
