RD 2, Pick #41: OT Cordy Glenn - Georgia
bills_fan replied to Beerball's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
When this draft is re-graded in 3 years, Glenn will be a top 15 pick and the best LT in the draft. I cannot say again how truly excited I am that the Bills finally addressed LT with a fantastic pick. -

Whoooooooo-HHoooooooooooo Have not been this excited for a 2nd rounder in forever! We got a starting left tackle for the next decade who is a Marcus McNeil clone. I love life right now! -
RD 1, Pick #10: DB Stephon Gilmore - South Carolina

I just place a different value on secondary players. I'd only draft front 7 defensive players, OL and QB in the top half of the 1st round. Just a different approach. -
RD 1, Pick #10: DB Stephon Gilmore - South Carolina

Not in one draft, but over the course of a couple. I did not see CB as a pressing need for this season (which is what I think you meant). We have 2 players in McGee and Florence who are decent, a former #11 pick in McLovin and last year's #2 in Williams. They will play off-man to try and jump routes that are rushed because of our pass rush. No man-to-man single coverage is planned. I saw CB as a 3rd round need at best. As for pass rushers...what if Mario goes down? The Giants had Umeyoria go down last year, plugged in JPP and he flourished. When they drafted JPP, the immediate reaction was that the Giants didn't need another DE. Now he's All-Pro. You can never have too many pass rushers. Ingram would have been a great pick. Fair point, lets see what happens tonight. Anything beyond Round 3 is usually a bit of a project anyway. The real impact guys are in the top half of the 1st round. Thats why I'd never take a CB there unless I had everything else filled. You can always get lucky in the later rounds (see McGee, Terrence...a CB...LOL!) but its a bit of a crapshoot. -

You could take a CB every year in the 2nd or 3rd Rounds, I agree with that approach. Just not the 1st, especially in the top 10 when your team has so many other holes. I italicized the really important part of that. LT - not addressed. More pass rushers - not addressed LB - not addressed WR - not addressed Address those then take all the 1st round CBs you want. And you know that the real value lies in not following the herd but in doing the contra move. That applies in almost anything! I understand he was not picked. If he falls to us at 41 (or we deal up for him, unlikely) I will be ecstatic. And if not, hopefully Martin or Brown proves able. And you are welcome to throw this series of posts at me if Glenn flames out. I like the guy a lot and think when the draft is graded out for real in 3-4 years that Glenn will easily be in the top 15 guys who would go if the draft was held again. -

Awesome post man. Thanks for doing the work. From your work, I can glean that 60% of the starting CBs in the league were drafted after Round 1 (remember, I said I did not believe in 1st Rd secondary players, not 1st and 2nd). Backs up what I thought. Frankly, I love Glenn and think he will be a Marcus McNeil clone. Having McNeil for the next 7-8 years from #10 ovrall...I think any Bills fan should take that in a heartbeat. If we had taken Glenn, I would have been very happy (even considering he is still available). Never liked Reiff for LT. I trust Nix more than any GM since Polian so we will have to wait and see. For the record, I hated the Lil Donte and McLovin picks, both for their position and the player. I like Gilmore from what I have seen and think he could be a good CB, I just would not have used #10 overall on him. -

i was smarter than past regimes. No question about it. It remains to be seen with this one. Anyway, absent a trade down I would have taken either Ingram or OT. Reason is you can NEVER have enough pass rushers (See Giants, Umenyoira goes down, JPP, who many said NYG did not need at the time, steps up and becomes best rusher) and the Bills have consistently neglected LT. We need to solidify the OL. We saw what Fitz did last year with cracked ribs. I just don't believe in taking any secondary players in Round 1. I believe you can find them later in the draft. -
I wonder...is that the sandbag or the truth re: Martin. Seems they like Glenn & Brown more from the CB write up.
-
Not a bad write-up, although I think you are discounting Glenn's ability to play LT. Only concern with Brown is with respect to the level of competition he has faced. Glenn faced NFL level competition as a LT at Georgia this year. I admit I don't know the difference between the two, but trust in Buddy to differentiate between them and pick a good one based upon meeting them and working them out. I just hope we go get a LT (I have been saying that for almost each Bills draft since 2002, I'm getting tired of writing that) and solidify the position for 10 years.
-
Yeah right? Unbelievable! 4 OTs were profiled today in Chris Brown's story on BB.com (link below). Massie was not one of them. http://www.buffalobills.com/news/article-2/Good-value-at-OT-WR-for-Bills-in-round-2/22c470d3-35c2-404a-8bc5-c258bb43b465 I just hope Glenn is there for us.
-
They view Massie as an RT. Won't be Massie. Adams can't even pass a drug test at the NFL combine...won't be Adams. I thinks its between Glenn, Martin and Brown from Troy. And the Jets have a decent OL...they don't need Martin.
-
Based on the comment below from Nix in reference to WRs, I think we're going OT in Round 2. I just hope Glenn is there. “I think so,” said Nix. “I think they’ll be one there in the third round. You’ve just got so many of them.”
-
Of the teams picking before us in Rd 2...who needs a LT? 1 St. Louis - Saffold struggled, so definite need there, with two picks in top 7, likely to take either Martin or Glenn. 2 Indianapolis - Need CB and weapons for Luck more. 3 Baltimore - Do need a G to replace Grubbs, may not be looking at OTs. 4 Denver - Need WR for Peyton 5 Cleveland - No, Thomas is best in the league. 6 Jacksonville - Not sure OT is a priority for them. 7 St. Louis - See #1 8 Carolina - No, Gross is the starter. Thoughts from those who know far more than I?
-
Glenn or Martin, if available. Bills won't consider a dude who can't even piss clean at the most important workout of his life.

He'd better be the second coming of Darelle Revis to justify being picked 10th overall. I hate taking little guys early. -
Please take Glenn in Rd 2!

Very well said.

Floyd: Cool, fills a need and bombs away 5. any LT other than Kalil: Awesome, finally addressing LT 6. a trade up for Kalil: don't give up too much, but awesome, finally addressing LT 7. 82. Thats with smoking. On KD's test, my real age was 45.5....so plus 9. Bad answer was that I smoke a pack a day.

Thats how I feel about it. Seems like he would be a beast in the running game and just big enough for pass protection until he really gets some experience. And I'm sure going against Super Mario every day in practice can only accelerate the learning curve.
