  1. With New England actually being the exception. They spend picks on their DL not the OL. They have even had free agent rookies and 6th/7th round picks come in and fill in well.
  2. The easiest way to test your theory is change one guy--the QB, and keep every other player the same. That was done with Bledsoe/Brady in NE and we see how 3 SBs later that worked out. It was also done with RJ/Flutie. It must not have been an awful OL that kept Bledsoe from meeting his potential, maybe it was him. Maybe when 5 people have to block six and the QB has to make a quick decision and pass accurately you want a smart QB. We'd all want an AllPro line but it ain't gonna happen. Like most OL's in the NFL you will be lucky with one and the rest are decent. Let's hope our guys are decent this year and we finally get very good play out of the QB.
  3. Isn't it amazing how the same OL goes from being awful allowing too many sacks with Bledsoe to being SB champs with Brady. And the same OL that was awful for RJ was the same OL that went to the playoffs with Flutie at QB. I think too many people have blamed the OL for being awful when we haven't had a decent QB in 5 years. Hopefully JP will be the one who finally leads us to the playoffs again. It takes both a good OL and good QB but I'd much rather have a great QB like Brady. He would still be an All Pro with our OL.
  4. Great the $2M coordinator put together. Did he blitz Brady every down and have it continually fail like in Buffalo?
  5. It just goes to show you how good a QB Tom Brady really is!! He makes all of these receivers look great and an OL look great. If this OL was in front of JP we'd be criticizing them worse than last year's OL. Having a great QB makes a team better at every position. Ever wonder how the same "awful" OL that gave up sack after sack with Bledsoe at QB ended up winning the Super Bowl with Brady as QB? It was b/c Brady is so good. Too bad he's in our division.
  6. Tim Ryan and his co-host on Sirius stated the same thing on their show yesterday morning. They said the guys they spoke with in Buffalo just wanted a QB who could manage a game hinting they preferred Holcomb. The veterans probably do want an experienced QB who can manage a game better. The best way to change those attitudes is to win and play well. If JP wins then everyone is happy. If he turns the ball over three times a half the Bills are in trouble and he should be pulled. I, unfortunately have a feeling we are in for a season of musical QBs. I know everyone wants to give JP his opportunity (which is the right thing), but if he is terrible he should be pulled. It's that simple.
  7. I live in Boston and have season tix--this is the best thing in the world. I've already done it a few times and it is the easiest flight. Cheaper than driving by a large margin. That is, if you can stay with family.
  8. You guys are right!! People say the Bills are missing out on big money by not giving the naming rights to someone. Max 2M a year. So less than 2% of the budget. Not really gonna be the difference maker between the big and small market teams is it?
  9. Nall should start next week if you want to use the same criteria that promoted Losman last week. He did well, moved the team and didn't turn the ball over. Plus had as many TDs as Losman. He was by far the best QB out there tonight for the Bills.
  10. If he is still this bad after the 4th game then no! He has to learn to get rid of the ball!!! He's a young QB and needs some time, but he needs to show the Bills something. Not turning the ball over is the biggest thing he needs to do. 21 points to the other team off of his turnovers. And that's just a half.
  11. So if Peppers doesn't rush you don't block anyone by your rationale? All I'm saying is watch the play and you'll see. If someone isn't rushing you don't block them. Peppers came on a delay. Anyone who knows anything about OL play knows you always, always block from the inside out which is simply what Peters was doing. The guy inside was coming untouched so he moved over to block the inside rusher and then Peppers came from the outside. It is NOT a play in the Bills' playbook. It is what you are supposed to do. If the play goes correctly it is a first down. Peters did what he is required to do on the protection scheme. That is not the Bills playbook that is everyone's playbook on how protection is suppposed to run.
  12. In regards to the Peppers sack. He came on a delay. Peters had him and then took the guy coming inside which he is supposed to do. You ALWAYS protect from the inside out. If you watch the play (if you have the game taped) you'll see that Peppers comes on a delay and the space that he vacates leaves a Bills receiver WIDE OPEN at the first down marker. It is Holcomb's responsibility to recognize that. He makes that pass and it's a first down and the chains move. So remember, things aren't always as they seem and everybody has to make split second decisions for a play to go well. That should have been a first down play had it been read correctly. Of course it's much easier analyzing a play in slow-mo.
  13. It is pre-season and they will not reveal much of anything. Relax, it's the first game. I do agree with one thing, and that is the pass rush. Playing this type of defense requires a decent pass rush. Rushing four and giving the likes of Brady huge throwing lanes is really dumb. The coaches have to realize this as well so I think they are just playing very vanilla right now. Did you see the lanes Delholme had to throw that TD pass. He honestly had about ten yards wide of a lane to throw. No obstruction of his vision--nothing.
  14. Gandy is a good LT. He is not great, but maybe having a good LT you pay reasonable cap money to is better than an overrated but slightly better guy who takes up 10% of your cap space.
  15. The Patriots pass all the time on the goal line but when the Bills do it people go nuts! It is all about execution and completing the play. We'll see once the season starts.
  16. Anyone who watched the games last year could see Holcomb was hands down the better QB. The problem is that you have a young QB who may potentially be very good. Fans always say they are willing to wait and see the young guy "go through growing pains." Well are you? Remember JP was putrid for many games last year and the offense could not move the ball at all. I really want JP to beat out Holcomb during this camp, but if he can't then he really is not that good right now and Holcomb does give us the best chance to win.
  17. Childress reminds me of Mularkey trying to be a tough guy with veterans who have been in the league for 10 years. From what I've read it sounds as if he is at his usual weight. Hopefully he releases Big Pat and the Bills pick him up--PW loves Buffalo and I'm sure would love to come back with the new regime in place.
  18. Well welcome to the NFL--like it or not that is how it is structured. Next year's 8th pick will get more than Whitner and be making more than a lot of Pro Bowl veterans. Is it fair? No--but that is how it is structured. Quite honestly I find it surprising that he was the 8th pick and still does not have the largest contract for a rookie in Bills' history. That goes to MW who was the fourth pick in the draft 4 years ago.
  19. From what I've heard Holcomb looks like the better QB at camp so far. Kind of disappointing but I'll support whoever starts. I just want a winner.
  20. I, too like the personal comments and stories of what goes on. Thanks for the information. It sounds like the chemistry amongst the team and coaches is quite good (at least right now). You are right that we hear enough about the football updates which I also enjoy, but we get that from many sources. It's refreshing to hear about the other aspects of camp.
  21. What's his record as GM? Buddy, give it some time.
  22. Thanks for the update. JP has got to evolve it sounds like. I think everyone is rooting hard for him, but the idea of watching him collapse in the pocket and throw wounded ducks when he's pressured is really depressing. I don't care about arm strength. It is about the 3rd or 4th criteria when evaluating a QB. Accuracy and decision making are more important and sorry to say it folks but Holcomb is lengths ahead in those categories.
  23. This should not be a huge sticking point. It's amazing that this has kept him out and behind the eight ball.
  24. Let's hope so. They both NEED to be in camp
  25. They're reporting in Boston that he is out for the year--per WEEI.
