We hired an old fool as GM! He has been out of the NFL forever--the game is different.

Sullivan's full of crap again, eh Simon?

If they're not throwing his way then he is doing his job. I don't recall him getting beat too often. He will not be worth the 16M signing bonus and whatever amount his agent demands I'm sure, but I have no problem with him making 7M this year if he keeps holding the other team's receivers to minimal catches. -
No one person has enough liquid cash to buy the team. It would have to be a group. Let's hope Ralph lives to 100+. Yes they would have to finance the team but that cuts into any profit whatsoever the way the team is run now. The owner takes about 7-10M/year profit on the team. Financing 300M+ is going to have a yearly payment way more than 10M the team gets in profit now. Paying interest only would be 21M/year on a 7% loan. Pray Ralph stays very healthy. I am not a doomsdayer like many that say the Bills are going to leave--but fans should be ready for some major changes like paying more for tickets, parking, etc.. if they want the team to stay. We should be willing to pay more to keep the team. If not, then they should go because people aren't willing to pay for them.
-
Keep in mind that there are at least 60+ offensive plays/game. Seeing an OL "get beat" a couple times is to be expected. It happens to every single OL in the game. Criticizing them for "getting beat" on a play is foolish. So they win or tie 58/60 battles and lose 2 and suddenly they're a bum. That is so stupid. You have to criticize them when it is a recurrent theme and it is a consistent theme. Our OL has played very well this season--very well!

3-4 years for 13M for a stud DT hardly breaks the bank even if he had an injury or one or two good years. That was Donahoe's biggest mistake other than the hiring of the two coaches.

We're moving back after living in Boston. The WNY economy has it problems, no question about it. But---it does have opportunities. There are jobs out there. The housing is cheap, schools are very good (if you have kids), and great people. I really do think that WNY is poised for decent economic growth. WNY is slow to embrace change and take advantage of all its assets. There are great Universities in upstate (Cornell, U of R, UB), with smart creatitive people. You have one of the seven wonders of the world in Niagara Falls. There is finally a push to take advantage, albeit slowly, of all these things. The waterfront looks like it is actually going to happen. You have some slow growth in NF and you have out of town developers renovating multiple buildings downtown. I wish that NYS was smart enough to do what Ontario has done with NF, but things will slowly change. I think the bleeding has been soooo bad that the moron politicians have finally taken notice. Let's hope so as it is a wonderful place. You've got to remember people back home are sick of the way things have been run and what has happened so are understandably pessimistic. There is an inferiority complex in the area. But you'd be surprised when you talk about Buffalo/NF to people in the Northeast/New England (outside the cities where snobbiness and superiority complexes exist). People go on vacation there, they love the natural beauty and consider it a very nice place. So there is hope.

Clements, Fletcher, McGee, McGahee, Evans, Spikes I believe are all better than average. I agree that talent across the league is probably pretty equal. That's why coaching, will to win and play and the mental makeup of the team is soooo important, and obviously coaching. That was the major (and it's a big negative) of the TD era. He knows talented guys, and personnel wise he was an okay GM.
-
TD overall knew good players and talent--and the roster shows that. I think most reasonable Bills fans would agree with that. However, his coaching decisions were horrible. The coaches and the whole aura around the program were terrible. One winning record in 5 year (or 4 years as I give him a pass on the first year).
-
Fred Smerlas even mentioned that multiple times on weei in Boston. He said the Bills move from R Jones was a HUGE mistake for the Bills and was a big reason (among many) for their demise last year.
-
Then why weren't they good last year?
-
I like Kornheiser. I think he adds something to the broadcast other than borderline football analysis. He is bright, funny, and I think goes well with the broadcast. In my opinion it is the best broadcast in at least 5 years.

Could we please extend London Fletcher?

Has to be a reasonable contract--he is on the wrong side of thirty once his contract is over. Hey, I agree. He is a great leader and teammate. Just re-sign him for a reasonable amount if you re-sign him. -
On third and short they ran to his side and he stuffed the middle. That's what you want out of him. DTs will never, ever be big stat guys. During big Ted's tenure he was averaging 2 tackles a game but everyone knew his value to the team. Triplett played a very good game yesterday and was credited with what, a tackle or two? Don't confuse stats of tackles/sacks for a DT with playing well. Look at the defense as a whole and run defense.
-
Reed played great otday. Some really tough catches and yards after the catch! Good for him. He is really looking more confident. We have a very good receiving corps, who cares who is number one etc.... If Evans leaves Price or Reed one on one it benefits the team. That is all I care about.
-
Great attitudes by these guys and like Jauron said "you want them to learn by winning." Man it's nice to actually win again.
-
The inside guys did play well. When Big Ted would clog the middle and the Bills had great defenses his stats were awful at first glance. A couple of tackles a game. But if one guy consistently requires double teams and is stout at the line of attack then they are doing their job. Great overall effort by the DL. Still need some work on the running game, but definite improvement today!
-
Do you think a Hall of Fame coach who has spent 30 years in the NFL might know a little about the game and the type of coaching, players and people it takes to win? I know it's one game, but you already get the feeling that this team is well prepared and coached well and good things are happening. Maybe after the season the national "experts" will apologize if the Bills end up having a good year. I doubt it.

Dear Meathead, were you paying attention?

How about doing simple things like on 3rd and long from the Dolphins 35 run a quick slant to pick up another 7 yards to get a reasonable FG. Last year it would have been a 7 step drop and a sack and a punt. Smart play calling and simple things helped a lot today. It'll be interesting to see around the country if it is "what's wrong with Miami?" as opposed to "gee, the Bills actually have a decent team!" That's actually fine with me, the less recognition the better just as long as they keep on winning. -
It was almost a blessing that TV had a hamstring pull. Ko has a lot to learn and I like TV's leadership etc... but with the speed of both those safeties--wow you can do a lot. They can match up well with WRs, they can hit, tackle, and blitz. I was watching them both today and boy were they flying around.
-
I always have said he is a very good ST player. He is a bad safety but a great ST player. Great play for him today. Good for him--he is a very nice/good guy.

For those of you grousing over the NE loss...

I remember that game! It hasn't been that exciting since then. A playoff team with some great players. What a catch from Moulds! Doesn't it seem like our offense and defense were a year too late. We had a great offense that year and then the following years we had the number 1/2 ranked defenses. We just never had them coordinated the same years. That was en exciting time for football. Has it really been 6 years? Should have just stuck with Flutie. Why mess with what's not broken. -
You can spend 125M on a 100M salaray cap and still be 20M under the cap depending on how the money is allocated (signing bonus, etc...). The Bills have spent more money than the cap, but have 8M (maybe a bit less) under the cap. This allows them room to obtain someone in case of injuries etc... However, a player who is not on a roster right now is not going to be Bruce Smith for you--there is a reason some guys are not playing right now. The Pats are under the cap as much if not more than the Bills.
-
But Gallery is a franchise tackle! Looks like MW may not be the only OL bust in the past couple years.
-
What did we get for Moulds? Basically once the season started and teams saw a clear need for a position they were willing to give up more. As Seattle is having a problem at WR now they saw a clear need to make an upgrade. It is kind of ironic that the Pats have a huge need there as well.

Reed had a great game with some VERY tough catches. Not every WR goes beyond the markers on a third down. Many times WRs actually make plays after they make a catch. If you have 3rd and 10 it takes a long time for a route to develop so do you want every WR running 12 yards downfield? No! Correct route running and route spacing is a huge part of the passing game. Would you rather take a sack because you have to wait for a route to develop and end up losing 8 yards on a play or would you rather make a quick dump off pass on a blitz and let Parrish, et al make a play to get the first down? Many times the dump off pass is a better option than throwing into double coverage or taking a sack on 3rd and 10. That's why it is so important to get 3rd and short---it provides you so many more options.
