If he is thought to be the best DT in the draft he will certainly be gone by 12 so it would be a moot point---I think he is gone before the Bills pick. If he is there, then it's a no-brainer.
-
I was listening for about an hour and heard no football until they talked about how dumb the Bills are for increasing prices for tickets at the same time the Sabres are---the Bills still have the cheapest tix in the league! You are not going to alienate fans raising the tix on average $5--a whole $40 extra year! I know they like to make the point that the Sabres have surpassed the Bills in interest but it's just not true. To pack 18k seats is a whole lot easier than a 75k seat venue. And I don't recall the Bills opposing team having more fans than the Bills like when the Leafs come to town in hockey!
-
They do mention it on Versus though---whatever channel or network that is
-
I just recently moved back and have been VERY disappointed with WGR. It is just too tough to listen nowadays. Schopp has admittedly no interest in football and would rather talk hockey all the time. I realize the Sabres are good this year but nobody outside of WNY cares or even knows that the Sabres exist. I go to their games and root for them as well, but let's face it,it is a 2nd to 3rd class sport on a national level. There just is no interest. I have heard no free agency talk, Bills offseason talk etc... The coach was a jerk, but at least it was fun and you could listen to football talk even during the time leading up to the Super Bowl--imagine that! Even during the Bills second half run there was not nearly as much talk as you would think. Is Buffalo really that disinterested in football now????

Now That Ticket Prices Have Been Raised
Ray replied to Buffalo Baumer's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Extremely reasonable pricing--in fact it is probably too little which makes it good for the fans. Go to any other NFL city and expect to pay much much more for the same seat. I would hope Ralph makes at least some splash in free agency--Briggs would be nice. But they also should keep Clements. Even if they could not come up with all the millions of bonus money immediately they could still pay him guaranteed money which is all they care about. -
Could the Bills get Asante Samuel from the Patriots?
Ray replied to Oneonta Buffalo Fan's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Why would they be able to sign someone who will cost MORE than Nate? He is going to the Pro Bowl and led the league in int's. I don't understand that logic. -
Brady ran straight to Manning, congratulated him and then ran off the field. Brady is a class act. Belicheck snubbed Manning, however. He can be a classless loser.

Willis is obviously irresponsible---I think we can all agree with that. He is an average NFL back, no better, no worse. You could pick up his production with a 3rd or fourth round pick. He may be a nice guy as well, he seems likeable enough. He is disinterested in Buffalo and longs for a bigger city. I don't recall Willis marrying the woman who gave birth to his first child. Comparing Kelly to Willis on that front is a low blow and a horrible comparison. JK has gone to become a great family man who has done great things for certain types of med research etc... after the difficult Krabbe's issue with Hunter. To compare the two in that regard is absurd.

Could the Bills get the Jets 1st rounder
Ray replied to 1billsfan's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Maybe a 3rd or 4th. A first rounder? Are you kidding? Backs like him are a dime a dozen. -
I'm a club seat holder too! Hey they are still the cheapest seats in the league so if this city wants a team we've got to buy the tix. Very reasonable for NFL tix. Those prices will buy you nosebleed "regular" seats in New England so be happy we're in Buffalo.

Mike Greenberg would take Brady over Montana
Ray replied to Willis990's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Alaska---couldn't have said it better myself! Brady hands down. Antowain Smith is on par with Roger Craig though, huh? And Jerry Rice is pretty much as good as Troy Brown too. All those Pro Bowl receivers (none) Brady had to throw to is why he is so good. Face it guys, we have had to face the best QB in the NFL in the past 20 years. At least we have got to see him play. I just moved from Boston and when you listen to the guy talk and his interviews you see how driven he is and committed to winning. The good thing is I see a lot of the same qualities coming out in JP. -
Re-sign Nate. Re-sign Hargrove over Kelsay. Let Fletcher go (love his heart but on the wrong side of 30--32 yo next season for a MLB). Everett can go, Preston upgraded over Villarial but I think you can upgrade over Preston. I think trying to find a great corner is going to be tough to replace Nate and will hurt this defense without a significant pass rush. Nate really did shut down the opposing teams top WR---that is very difficult to find nowadays. If you plan on going out and signing Dwight Freeney opposite Schobel then maybe you let him go.

I can see the Sabres being the 1 seed and losing to the 8th seeded Senators in the first round. Very bad match-up for the Sabres if it happens.

Football economics in simple terms
Ray replied to Phil Indablanc's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
It's all like investing in stocks---you want good value. Buy a beat up stock at a good price rather than a company at its high. You can get good value out there. Paying Nate an 18M signing bonus may be good value. You've got the room to do it. Now, if the Redskins offer him 25M bonus I don't think you can match that. But for a guy who continually covers the other teams' best receiver you've got to pay him a lot. I would not mind seeing him get a contract close to Bailey. Someone will leapfrog over him soon enough. Use your money wisely. By the way the Bills routinely spend more than the cap in terms of dollars but the way the accounting is they are under the cap. You can spend 120M on a 100M cap and still be 10M under the cap. -
He had a very good year for a rookie. Hey, there are a lot of top 10 picks that fail. He will not be one of them. You have to look at a guy that is also a good fit for the Bills. Ngata may have completely come in and stunk. And at the time Bunkley was pegged by many as as good as Ngata. Go watch all of these guys game in and game out. You will always be more critical of players on your own team. Roy Williams---gets beat constantly in Dallas. Sean Taylor--the few times I've watched the skins has gotten beat too. I think he is a good fit for the Bills and what they are trying to do right now and create a very good defense. The guy prepares well, studies hard, loves football and is great physically. A safe pick that is panning out for the Bills. You will go places if you continue to do that.

Anyone else get the sense McGahee didn't want to be there?
Ray replied to Coach Tuesday's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
If you've got the physical tools but not the mental tools then it's not good enough. When Josh Reed is able to read blocks better coming out of the backfield then there is a problem. Make him play out his final year of his contract--you aren't going to get more than a third round pick for the guy in a trade. Which quite honestly you can get a third round pick at RB and have them rush for 990 yards. Losing him would hurt against the Jets and that's about it. RBs are a dime a dozen. He is the furthest thing from an LT both on and off the field. -
Mike Schopp: biggest joke in Buffalo radio
Ray replied to buffalobillsfootball's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I never said or implied he is a jerk--overall I like him. But taking one point in history and saying the tide has turned is ridiculous. The Bills are and always will be numero uno in this town by sheer numbers. Like I stated earlier---nobody around the country cares about hockey. It was beaten badly in the ratings by bowling and poker!!!! Bowling and poker! http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/conte...6060400897.html -
Trade McGahee to the Giants for a #1.
Ray replied to Coach Tuesday's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
If any team is that dumb to ive a number 1 for Willis then let them do it. But the Bills would be lucky to get a third rounder for him. You can get a back that ranks in the top 23 RBs in the league many places. I don't care if Marv re-signs him for 2.5-3M a year but anything more than that is overpaying him. The value for the buck at 5M/yr is just not there. Many other priorities first. Signing Clements, possibly Fletcher (at again 3M/yr), a LB, and signing Evans to a long term deal. -
Mike Schopp: biggest joke in Buffalo radio
Ray replied to buffalobillsfootball's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Based on the very NFL's figures!!!! Buffalo and Green Bay hold the HIGHEST share almost every week in terms of number of households watching the games. They lead NY, Boston, Miami etc.... So more homes watch the Bills than any other city (most weeks) except for Green Bay. So that's not interest????? -
Mike Schopp: biggest joke in Buffalo radio
Ray replied to buffalobillsfootball's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
The Bills are still king in Buffalo and always will be in terms of numbers. Many more people like football--it's just a fact. The Bills still lead the league in terms of households watching their team. I think it's great the Sabres are great and have a chance at the Cup. I just moved back to Buffalo and was very disappointed in WGR and all the hockey talk though. I frankly don't care about hockey in Sept-Jan. And nobody else around the country does either! Face it, it's a regoinal sport and a Canadian sport. What league gets dissed for poker? When ESPN and the ocho and all of its 1-8 channels does not want to carry your league's games b/c ratings are so bad---nobody cares. Again I think it's great the Sabres are doing well, but talk about it Feb through May/June when it matters. After 5 games they're talking about the Sabres here--it's like talking about the Bills after the first half of their first game. The fact the Bills have not fielded a great team since '99 is the main reason they haven't gotten as much support lately. Once the Bills go to the play-offs and have a good team the psyche will change. The Sabres would be out of here quickly for lack of interest if they went 7 seasons w/o a playoff appearance. It's nice that B'lo has a good team in the Sabres, but there is as much interest nationally as Rochester having the Raging Rhinos as a good soccer team. Nobody cares or knows b/c there is just no interest nationally. -
I don't think you should be quick to get rid of Spikes. I think you keep him even if he is not good enough to start. He would provide great depth and I agree that another year into his recovery is key. He does not break the bank on the cap and that is enough to keep him. He has not played back up to his prior level but I never thought he would this year. If he appears slow next year then that will be it for him. But now, I agree with you. Look for him to get better. Has he ever played MLB if Fletcher goes????

3 DT's from Bears are free agents this year.
Ray replied to PIZ's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Pat Williams and Sam Adams for that matter were/are both quick. They were quicker into the backfield than any DTs on the team this year. I do think a big problem with the run defense is the LB corps. I think Fletcher is a guy with great heart and plays hard for you all the time, but he gets swallowed up quickly many times in the run defense. Spikes has as well. I would be very satisfied with a "run stuffer" and a top FA LB. I think those two additions could be a lot to this defense. -
Season Ticket Holders: would you buy
Ray replied to buffalobillsfootball's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I'd pay a few hundred more dollars a year for my seats in the P McGuire Club. I think what they may have to do is add more club seats and take away about 5k of upper level seating. Make the capacity around 70k. Then maybe open more seating again if the volume is there. -
19,000 Titans vs Bills Tickets left
Ray replied to Hammered a Lot's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Boy I hope so---but the tix are not moving at all. Many season ticket holders I've spoken to are not going. I hope you are right. 60k in that stadium gets quite loud and it is the lower bowls that make the most noise. The upper tiers will be mostly empty I think. -
He also really liked R Gallery of the Raiders when he came out. How's that working out for them? Peters can/will be one of the best (top 10) LTs in the league at a very valuable cap amount. Why would you mess with that? We all know we need a DT. I think we need a RG, DT, LB and then depth. Sign Clements, I think you can sign London for a reasonable cap figure, and keep most of the line the same. Continuity helps a lot with an OL.
