God Bless this wonderful man and we should all be thankful for him as a GREAT ambassador for Buffalo. It still amazes me how a California guy ends up in Buffalo and considers Buffalo home. He was a great family man, QB, Buffalonian and QB and politician. Some very tough losses for this community this past year with Jack and Tim. May they RIP and may we live our lives and boost our community as they would have wanted. I physically felt sick on hearing the news Sunday morning. Thoughts and prayers with his family and friends. Thank you for all you gave to us Jack.....you will always be remembered!!!

I just don't understand Obama's uber civility
Ray replied to Beerball's topic in Politics, Polls, and Pundits
LABillz is correct......Obama has revealed he is just like every other politician. Gee, can you imagine well connected people in his administration making billions of dollars from his policies? Just goes to show you he is not above everything political etc...he claimed to be. -
If he transfers the team to his wife there is ZERO tax. If she sells the team a couple years later she pays capital gains (20% now) instead of 55% estate tax. Much better option for bills fans/Buffalo/etc..... I would imagine that he has had some estate planning and some plans to transfer the team but who knows. I can certainly understand why he does not want to talk about it.....I just wish he would be more confident the team stays in Buffalo as he can make that happen.
-
He does not need to sell the team....all he has to do is leave them to his wife. Why not let her have the team for a little over a year and then she can sell the team and just pay capital gains tax instead of the heinous estate tax

The Ralph has certain charms and history I think most people would agree. However, it is old and the seats themselves, bathrooms, suites and club seats are not comparable to the newer stadiums. But, do they need to be? For the WNY, So Ontario crowds, by and large they are there to watch football. The fans at Bills games are there for the game and NOT to socialize with other corporations or to be seen. When I was living in Boston the Patriot players were in public stating how the fans actually need to be loud and cheer as there was no atmosphere and no noise typical of an NFL game. Kind of the balance I guess between having the most expensive tix in the NFL with the type of people you get going to the games. Face it, I would love a new downtown Buffalo stadium, something that could be used year round and close to canalside and close to the water......but it is NOT happening. The big thing that keeps the Bills in Buffalo is the stadium. I think what would make it nicer is something to insulate the place from the wind and elements better.

Seriously....sign him to a minimum contract with incentives. Nothing to lose...Williams vs a no-name street free agent. He knows the team, the area, etc.... Oh the irony. That would be great.

As long as the methodology stays the same for everyone it does not really matter. I agree there are many factors that go into giving up sacks. But that was always supposed to be his strength as run blocking he was always labelled as average. Why did we seem so hopeless on 4th and a foot all the time running to the Left side of the line? But Peters gave up 2 sacks in '06, 6.5 in '07 and the 11.5 in '08. That looks like the wrong direction to me.
-
A dominant LT is worth 10M per year. It's just that Jason Peters is NOT one. He is a pretty good LT. Middle of the pack tackle last year at best.
-
When Kirk Chambers outplays you and nobody notices a difference then you probably are not worth a 13+M extension. His best year was '06 and he went down in '07 and was bad in '08. Anybody who watched the Bills would question why this guy was supposedly so good. Why was our R side of the line better. Basically the Bills upgraded because you can pay a guy 2M and get the same production as you got out of Peters for the past two years.
-
Look at some of Roscoe's returns and he makes 5-6 guys miss! That is not the return team setting him up. Plus, he is a very low cap hit the next couple years so you get a lot of band for your buck. Paying a LT that gives up the most sacks in the NFL 12M per year is very poor value. Peters was BELOW average for a LT last year and anyone who objectively evaluates football could be that. One very good year in '07 does not warrant a 12M/year extension. He played no better than K Chambers last year who filled in for him. My point is simply Roscoe for his cap number provides a lot of value so why trade him.
-
Kyle Williams did say he is VERY tough to practice against and once he gets his hands on you you are done as a defensive player. He has a lot of raw talent, but so do many players. I do think with his athleticism and training he could be in the line this year. He played well in preseasn last year which is encouraging.
-
The odds of finding an impact player in the 4th or 5th round are quite low. You have a known impact player in Roscoe. He changes field position for the team all the time and teams are content to kick away from him and take a 30 yard net. Why trade a known commodity who definitely helps the team for a player who 80-90% will not even be on the team or NFL in three years. That is dumb.
-
What good player have we lost? I was sad to see Jabari go as well as I think he is a good corner but other than that we haven't lost any.
-
Peters could have been the worst pro bowler EVER picked this past year. If we have a LT who gives up a sack a game this year we stay the same at the position. Why did the Bills run better to the R than the L? Why was Peters the LT who gave up the most sacks? Maybe because he was not that good! Not worth the extra 13.5M per year for the last 4 years. We can get the production he has given us for 2M a year.
-
Peters oue best player? Come on....there were three LTs in our division better than him!!! He was the worst LT in our division/AFC East. He sure shut down J Porter last year. He is a good LT. NOT a great LT. You can get the same production out of a guy and pay him 3M per year. Giving up the MOST sacks out of any LT in the game is pretty worrisome and certainly NOT worth 12M per year. Use it to pay other guys and get a lot more bang for the buck. Denver had a rookie LT greatly outplay Peters last year. He was good in '07 and fair to poor in '08. Is Lynch the best RB in the league b/c he was the leading rusher in the Pro Bowl? Come on people, Pro Bowl does not mmean much of anything anymore except for agents.
-
His agent is right. Even if the Bills started with an offer of 4 years and 10M that would be very reasonable offer and they could add incentives in there. He is a quality guy, works out with the team, is dedicated to the team. Lynch is out for three games....just pay the guy or at least get the offers flowing back and forth. The market is already pretty established for back-up RBs so numbers should not be too far off.

Rotoworld reports that JP Losman has received no known
Ray replied to Tipster19's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
The worst thing for JP this past year was Trent going down with an injury. JP actually had to play and gave teams more reason not to take him. He has had plenty of opportunity to show he could play....and he just hasn't. Nice guy who just could not cut it. But don't feel too bad for him as he actually made millions of dollars in just a few years. -
This organization is becoming a real embarassment
Ray replied to Cornerville's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Whitner was in a bar late at night and got a bit too aggressive. Don't expect this to be much of anything when it all plays out. Look at Cleveland....their WR is up for manslaughter charges on some poor guy who just walked across the street.....all of the Bills transgressions combined does not even come close to that. Agreed it looks bad, but overall in the whole picture, it is not a big deal. These guys should just hang out in WNY more to stay out of trouble. -
The problem with a lot of sports radio not in the particular city is that they go by what they hear in the news and not by sources close to the situation and they do not really care like we do in Buffalo. Lynch has done some dumb things but he is VERY well liked by his teammates and coaches and is a hard worker and plays hard as well. He is still VERY young and this may ultimately play in the Bills favor as when it comes to the second contract he will not be "worth" as much. Don't let people get you down.....if I could be in Florida for Jan-March I'd be there is a second. Great state, great weather 8 mos a year and NO state tax as well as property taxes about half of Buffalo. A lot of positives.
-
The Bills have demonstrated they will pay...and pay big money to players they feel are worth it. Lee Evans is a top 5 paid WR, Schobel a top 5 paid DE and Stroud a top paid DL. What they do NOT want to do is overpay for a guy who they know is not worth 11-12M per season. The Bills have likely offered about 8M per season but he and his agents want 10M at least. The guy who gave up the most sacks by a LT last year and the guy who we all saw was NOT a Pro Bowl LT is not worth that kind of money. The Bills can let him sit and not take a big hit OR get very good compensation for him. Did anyone notice when he was not in there? Actually you probably did as the QB was not getting sacked in the End Zone essentially unblocked like Porter around Peters all day. 12M a year should guarantee you do not give up a sack.
-
Peters and his agents have managed to create a lot of doubt about the guy's willingness to play and work hard. Yes, he was voted to a Pro Bowl but he was the LT that gave up the most sacks in the NFL last year.....hardly a guy who deserves 11M per year. The Bills hold ALL the cards here. He is under contract for two more years. The Bills can keep him at a VERY reasonable amount of under 4M per year. They also can get similar production that they got from Peters last year. Anyone who watched him saaw a big drop off in his play. If Peters and his agents want to play this game for another two years and then see what the market is in the offseason in 2011 then fine.....but sounds like a bad strategy. I'd pay him 8M a year but not more. Didn't really notice much of a difference for the games he wasn't there.....that should be the biggest indication.

Bills can stay in the Buffalo / Niagara region if........
Ray replied to SKOOBY's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
The Bills ARE staying in the Buff/Niagara region. So who in Toronto has the $3B to buy, build a new stadium on the private dollar, and pay the relocation fee. Pay the 25-25% exchange rate and deal with all the backlash from the CFL. The Yankees (yes the Yankees) who have the team paid for and are building a 1B stadium in NY are finding it difficult to find a good pricing point for tickets, have gone back to the City and State and ask for HUNDREDs of millions of dollars more because they are having trouble finacning everything. So multiply that by three and apply it to Canada. Toronto does not have the money to build a stadium and there is NOT the political will either. The Bills will stay in WNY. They have a stadium that is debt free....and that is their trump card along with tradition and one of the best fan bases in the league. Buffalo should draw from Southern Ontario as it already does and the vast majority of fans relate more to a Bills fan than a "Toronto" fan in the corporate suite sense. There are many businesses in Southern Ontario/Hamilton/NF/NOTL that buy club seats and smaller suites etc... The fan base and population already exists and is comparable to many other NFL cities (Pittsburgh, Cleveland, Cinci, Jacksonville, Green Bay). The state, the city and most inportantly the fans are not letting this team go anywhere. -
I think McCargo is well worth the little risk. Keep him unless we somehow get Raji if he falls in the draft. McCargo is young and like many young guys immature and undisciplined. Remember Bruce Smith early in his career? McCargo counts very little on the cap but has shown flashes of being very good. 2 yrs ago you could count on him every game to have a couple of plays behind the line of scrimmage. I say let him compete and play. We need a DE to complement Schobel....Kelsay should be a very nice back-up to Schobel or the other DE NOT the starter.

He is so tough he is whining like a little girl (sorry little girls). Don't need a QB with such a thin skin. Boo hoo for Cutler. He needs to grow up. Has a strong arm but so did Jeff George.
