John Murphy just had segment and said the Bills are very high on Russ Grimm but he originally turned the Bills down for an interview but then changed mind and they may be interviewing him down the road. Don't know how true that is but I'm not keen on hiring a guy who originally turns you down......however, that may not be the entire truth, as maybe he could not interview on a certain day.

The total Marv as GM draft assessment is now viable
Ray replied to GrudginglyPessimistic's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
It is amazing to me people will b*tch about Lynch when he had two very good seasons to start and made the pro bowl but his back-up F Jackson was also a Marv pick and is an excellent back. If those remember back to why we picked Lynch was b/c we did not have a legitimate RB and W McGahee had just been run out of town and he gladly left. Same thing with DT...K Williams is a very good DT but the Bills whiffed on McCargo. As long as you hit on some players you are okay. Go back and look at the Polian drafts...he whiffed on most picks but if you hit on 2-3 each draft AND have a QB you have a chance. People will complain that Maybin is a bust but won't acknowledge how great a draft it would be if Byrd, Nelson, Wood and Levitre all pan out. -
Today marks the end of the Marv Levy redux era

Ralph reached into the future with Donahoe and how did that work out? Going with Nix is going with the past as well....a very successful past so let's hope it works. I think Buddy sees the big picture of building a team in Buffalo -
This defense was one of the best in the league against the pass and with two better OLBs is probably a top 10 defense in the league. They kept this team in games and in every game except two just wore out. The D is not the problem the lack of a QB is, and that is the biggest thing that needs to be addressed. Perry is as good as any other coaching candidate except Cowher (obviously). Haslett, Rivera, B Schottenheimer, J Harbaugh. Really? Do any of those guys get you excited? M Martz in Buffalo running that offense with no QB? B Billick who was run out of Baltimore. We need Cowher or else you might as well just stay with Fewell as the other are not inspiring at all.

Not a successful tenure, but again it was only two years. His tenure was better than his predecessor so we are actually going in the right direction. Keep getting better than the person before you. I am very encouraged by Nix and think his philosophy is better. If he was in charge of the '06 draft do you think he picks Ngata or Whitner? Every regime really has failed b/c we do not have legitimate QBs. -
That being said two players from those drafts have made Pro Bowls...Lynch and now K Williams. Not that the Pro Bowl means a lot but does signify they are at least very good players.

Fewell interviews monday, Weis not in picture for Bills HC
Ray replied to Fewell733's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Good for Perry.....honestly if we do not get Cowher I would be just as happy with Perry as Rivera, B Schottenheimer (who at times has been close to being run out of NY), or B Billick. The other candidates are very uninspiring to me. If no Cowher then all the rest are pretty equal. Perry went what 3-4 with Ryan Fitzpatrick and B Brohm as his QBs. -
His sources are OUTSIDE the organization. For the 101st time....no he does not have family working for or married to anyone in the OBD

Schefter & Mort say Bills and Cowher met this week
Ray replied to Chandler#81's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Coach Sal outscooped ALL national media on this story and the TO story and the first to report Evans' extension as well. A credible guy who loves the Bills and has many coaching contacts from being a coach. I think it is great he delivered the news 3-4 days BEFORE major media outlets reported it. He was also belittled and made fun of for it....he gets the last laugh. We should be happy there is a guy like that who is also a hard core Bills fan. -
Yes that one. Anyone who thinks he is the reason we did not make the playoffs needs their head examined. We had Peters for what three seasons at LT and we never made the playoffs. I'll take Nelson, Wood and another pick this year for him. He started off having a bad season at Phila but has come on and played well of late. I'd love Peters for 5M per season.....NO WAY for 10M. You can get equal production out of a LT paying a decent one 4-5M per year.
-
If he is a 3rd round pick fine. College sophomore QBs are a horrible pick. They never have enough experience playing and it gets about 100 times more complicated playing in the NFL. I'm all for him being our pick in 2013 but now only if he was a later round pick. Sanchez was only a junior with little playing time and has had a VERY difficult time adjusting o the pro game. Good for the Bills but not the Jets. Lucky for him they have a great defense who oversome his awful Ints and they have very good Special Teams as well

Are you implying Fitzpatrick would be a Pro Bowler if we had a better OL? What is D Anderson and B Quinn's excuse then? Having a great QB is better than having a great OL....your team will always be better with a great QB with an average line as compared to average QB with a great OL. The Chargers do not have a great OL they have a great QB. I agree it would be great to have both and having a great OL with a great QB is fantastic but how did the great Colts OL do as soon as Manning was out? Yeah, I thought so they give up a sack for a TD that Manning never would have given up. I'm all for having a great OL but I think it is way overstated as OL play is pretty similar throughout the NFL for the most part as starters around the league do not have as big differences as QB play. That is why the Colts can find guys from the Arena league and plug them in as starters. How come T Jackson was not an excellent QB last year behind the same line with A Peterson as his RB that Favre plays behind.....could it be that Favre is such a better QB accounting for about 4-5 more wins and a better team?
-
Peters did admit he took plays off by not concentrating here......admitted to being distracted and not giving all attention to his work as a LT for the Bills. In the end so what? He has played well the past few weeks but had a very average start to the season. So not sure 10M a year gets you a dominant LT as he was not dominant. Mckinnie has been taken out of games for playing poorly as well......essentially no dominant LTs like there used to be.

Supposed big news announcement at 9pm
Ray replied to PromoTheRobot's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Big news is that Succession plan for the team is in place....to me this is by far the biggest news and best news. Supposedly goes to his wife as that way there are no estate taxes. The other big news is that the Bills and Cowher are talking....that does not mean he comes here, but it does mean the Bills are in the mix. Those were the two big things from his site tonight and the guy does have legitimate sources and contacts. -
You people do realize J Byrd was named to the Pro Bowl don't you? So you have to give the FO credit for that one. Who cares where a guy is drafted as long as he is a great player. J Byrd is, so be happy for the guy. Way too much complaining by people when we have one of three rookies in the Pro Bowl.....that means we drafted a great player.

Cleveland has a very good OL So does Miami....1st rounders and all pros on those lines. A great QB trumps all that is why those 10 teams are in the play-offs. The only thing you had to see was the Indy Jets game this week when they took Manning out...same OL and what happened? They looked worse than the Bills' offense. Don't get me wrong, a good OL is very helpful but the Bills problem is that even when their QBs have time to throw they miss and throw poorly. There is a huge discrepancy between QBs in this league. There is not as big a discrepancy between OL...that is why the Colts and Pats can take guys and plug them in and not miss a beat. The Colts have starters on their line who played in the Arena League. For years I have heard that the Bills QBs were not playing well b/c of the OL...Todd Collins, RJ, JP, Bledsoe, Trent Edwards. NONE of those QBs left Buffalo and went anywhere and played well. They were still bad. Romo had success behind the same OL Bledsoe played behind. Maybe it is b/c our QBs have been bad. I am all for getting great OL but it will not matter at all if we are throwing the likes of Trent and RF in as QBs.

Positive comments about the Buffalo Bills

All of Bills Front Office moves were WRONG this year
Ray replied to Chuckknox's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
So are people upset about Byrd, Levitre, Woods and Nelson? If those 4 continue to develop that is an excellent draft. Getting rid of Dockery is fine.....way overpaid for his production. L Walker really lost it over the past year so I have absolutely no problem with that move. Maybin vs Orakpo....lots of people had them pretty equivalent in terms of prospects and there was concern about Orakpo coming from Texas and the higher than usual rate of poor translation of Texas players to the NFL. For year one Orakpo is far and away the better player. But give Maybin a chance people....the guy is 21 years old!!! Let him develop, get stronger and learn the game. He is a sensational athlete. Give him time. If you can get 3-4 starters in a draft you are doing a great job. The Bills have a legitimate Defensive ROTY candidate in Byrd so people happy about that and give the Bills credit. The worst draft the Bills ever had was Butler's last draft. Go back and look at Polian's drafts and overall were very average for the Bills. You need to take the good with the bad....the biggest problem with the Bills is the QB position and after the way Trent played last year nobody was going to go out and replace him as he looked like an up and coming QB.....that was also the consensus around the league. If Maybin develops into a Schobel like player would people be happy? I certainly would! -
Wow! Is he still that dumb and unable/unwilling to learn? Stay as far away from him as possible Buffalo! JK would not take him ever so hopefully he has Ralph's ear in regards to this. Vick created his own problems. He made a conscious calculated decision for years that it was okay to torture and kill animals doing it himself for sport. That is one sick individual. Don't want him here at all. He has paid his debt to society in terms of his jail time and his further debt is realizing he has to live with the consequences and part of that is people not wanting him around. That quote shows he is still an arrogant jerk

This team really is a mess. Look at the depth chart
Ray replied to San-O's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
This team is actually fine in terms of a WR core.....they need a QB. Lee Evans is a pro bowler with a good QB. He has put up decent numbers with career back-ups throwing him the ball. Do you think it is a coincidence that T Owens worst career year is when he has these QBs throwing him the ball? TO has had Romo, Garcia, Steve Young, McNabb and now has Fitz and Edwards.....do you think there is any coincidence his numbers are way down. That is what Evans has dealt with his whole career. I think skill position we are fine...except the most important in QB. We need QB, LT, OLB, DL....the team is not as far away as some may think. But we need a QB. Keep your fingers crossed for Brohm. -
Buffalo a "real player" for Vick next year
Ray replied to Coach Tuesday's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I'll give up my season tix if that happens. Not only was it reprehensible what he did, but he is certainly not going to lead you anywhere. When he was at his prime he was an okay QB with exceptional athletic talent. He is more of a situational QB now. He does not give you a consistent chance to win and puts you back another 3-4 years in terms of getting a franchise QB. -
He has played very well this year. INTs, making big plays. Made the two best defensive plays against the Pats this week. He frequently is asked to drop back into coverage. People, league wide (not just disenchanted Bills fans) who have more perspective have said he has had a very good year especially since he missed 4 1/2 games. Anyone who has watched him play the past 4 games probably realizes he is a very good MLB and he really now is in his second season. He has the attitude you want in a LB. He has a very mediocre DL in front of him and a very subpar complement of LBs playing side by side. He has stood out as a very good defensive player this year. I know nobody wants to admit we have good players but we have some. We need a QB more than any other position and that is the main reaon no playoffs in 10 years.

Do people still think Desean Jackson is "too small"?
Ray replied to Big Turk's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Bingo!!! We have no QB. Our WR talent is absolutely fine. Our QB talent is bad, very bad. -
Hey Senator...Did you see Peters tonight?
Ray replied to Wilson from Gamehendge's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Watched a little bit of the game but saw him get beat bad once when McNabb actually fumbled at the end of the half (forward fumble) that they a few seconds later blew the whistle thinking it was a forward pass. Saw him only get beat one other time. Basically, the guy is a very good LT "when he wants to be." And that is the problem. Give the guy George Wilson's attitude and the Bills would have had no problems signing him. It wasn't the talent, it was his attitude and head....which in the end will be his downfall. Too bad as he has a lot of talent. -
I shut it off and listened to 97 rock. They are horrible and cannot find anything good to say. The Bills won a boring game but they won. They have showed some guts and spirit and are still playing hard with nothing to play for so give them props for their professionalism
