I'll renew my tix as well and actually upgrade.....price of being a fan. Sparano, John Harbaugh, Wade Phillips N Turner were all "laughed at" hirings. So just chill out and play the game. By all accounts the guy is a winner. -
Actually a lot of people around the league think he is a great coach and a great hire. People would have thought L Frazier was a bad hire or B Schottenheimer. Nobody knows until they play the game. The guy has been a head coach for two years in the NFL and went to the playoffs both years! We would love that right now. We are not the laughingstock of the league. Many peoples' hero B Cowher thinks he is a fantastic pick for HC.
-
Far too much common sense. Yes they will be fine. L Frazier's defense looks pretty well prepared today. As of now they are dismantling the Cowboys. So I wonder if everyone is still worried he is the guy. I think he would be a very well qualified and capable coach. He probably fits in better in Buffalo than a lot of the other candidates. Would people care if the Bills interviewed Grimm and B Schotty and J Harbaugh and L Frazier and still decided on Frazier or if they only interviewed P Fewell and FRazier and get Frazier. If he is the guy he is the guy and it makes no difference how he gets there or how many people they interview or don't interview.

Glad to see some better posts instead of the same pessimistic, boring, self humiliation threads. The Bills will find a coach and the coach will WANT to be here. Instead of saying what is wrong with the franchise why not say "to heck with him" whoever turned us down. Seems to me there were a lot of openings last year that Grimm and B Schotty did not get. Ditka, J Johnson, and Joe Gibbs all did so well coming back and taking over a team the second time. Quit all the Bills suck/Ralph sucks nobody wants to come here junk.......we want people who WANT to be in Buffalo because it is worth being here and a great NFL city and team. Why is it a good job? Good young talent with arguably best secondary in the league. Very good skill players and great young OL interior talent. Great fan base and city that absolutely loves the franchise. Competitive in EVERY game but 2 this year (winning/tied or within a score in 4th quarter). NOT far off at all from being a winning team this year the years before, etc.... and beat teams in the AFC East who are just minimally better than the Bills. I know people will contest that last statement but if the Jets and Dolphins are so much better than the Bills why did the Bills beat both of them? Bills gave a game to the Pats and were a score away in the other one. The league is so close you have a chance EVERY year to succeed. We now have a football personnel guy as GM who has a history of GREAT drafting. A young coach wanting to make a name for himself will find an outstanding opportunity here. Quit the Ralph meddles too much as well.......D Snyder, J Jones don't get involved in their franchises? That is NOT why Shanahan stayed away from the Bills. Cowher does not guarantee anything if he comes here (he is NOT) and neither did Grimm or Schottenheimer. Look around the league and see very un-sexy hires doing VERY well than the same re-cycled old guard. Harbaugh, Sparano, Caldwell, R Ryan, M Tomlin. All were very unpopular picks and then they actually started to play games!

I really like the possibility of Frazier as HC
Ray replied to DarthICE's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I agree that he has the making of a great HC. Seems to connect with the players and has been successful everywhere he has been as a player, HC in college and position and DC on the pros. He WANTS the job so I say hire the guy and if B Schotty and R Grimm think they are too good to come here then screw 'em. Beat them on the field and have a good year with Frazier. From all accounts B Nix loved the guy and the interview. This defense is a player or two away from a great defense. We had a top 3 pass defense. Bring in a big run stuffer and a LB and we really could have a great D. -
The way he motives guys and organizes everything he probably would be a very good HC. Could not hurt to interview the guy....I, too was a little surprised he did not at least get an interview b/c I think he did hold the title of assistant HC.

I think S Johnson showed very good promise last year. Good hands, very good route runner, etc... Lynch made a Pro Bowl since everyone here seems to be obscessed with the fact that J Peters made pro bowls I just make the point with the other players on the team who made the pro bowl! K Williams is a Pro Bowl alternate and M Stroud was last year as well, so by my count that is 2! It is one of the best secondaries in the NFL and were top 5 pass defense....they were so go look it up! And that was with multiple injuries. There are a ton of questions about every team. Look at New England, the Jets will have tons of questions as well next year as will the Dolphins. It happens EVERY year in the NFL. So you mean to tell me the Jets...a team the Bills beat this year as well as the Dolphins are miles ahead of the Bills? If they are then how come they LOST to the Bills. That makes them worse than the Bills. Point being, you want to concentrate all on negatives but you have to acknowledge that this team actually does have some very good players as well.
-
Agreed....with McNabb we would have instant credibility and this team is suddenly energized again. If I am Buddy Nix and Russ Brandon that is a major offseason target. Biggest position of need is QB. The interior OL is okay and at RT we get Butler back and then we can find a decent LT in draft. With our skill positions we are instantly better. Maybe Marshawn and a 3rd rounder for McNabb......I'd take that deal in a second.
-
Or A very promising young nucleus on the line with Wood and Levitre and the fact they started 12 different players on the OL due to injury Lee Evans one of the better WRs in the league with two decent young ones in S Johnson and Hardy One of the best all purpose RBs in the league with a former Pro Bowler 2 yrs ago as his back-up The best secondary in the NFL Two Pro Bowl DTs on the line One of the best ST in the league A chance to make a couple tweaks and win the AFC East as they are not that far at all from the rest of the division People way overestimate how bad the team is.....if they are so bad why were they winning or within one score in the 4th quarter of every game but one this year. B/c they are very close to being a good team and are very cmopetitive. The biggest downside is the QB issue....but you tell the FO you take the job with the idea of going out and getting a QB like a McNabb in the offseason.
-
KZOO you are correct 100% in regards to the QB thing. The reason we have not been successful more than anything else is the QB position. We traded a number one for Bledsoe, traded a number one for RJ, drafted a number one with JP and then drafted Trent. We failed with THREE number one picks for QBs.....that is a very bad record. I for one, was on board with the Bledsoe trade for full disclosure as I thought he did have something left in the tank. Our skill position players are very good. If we had a good QB in the last decade we would have made the playoffs 4-5 times, it's that simple. If you think about it almost every year expect the 3-13 year, and the last year of Donahoe's reign we were in playoff contention the last 1-2 weeks of the season. If we had competent QB play that makes another 2-3 wins a year easy. We need a QB but I cannot see where we are going to get it for next year.

Shotty Jr. is too arrogant for his own good...
Ray replied to BillsPhan's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
This is written by a paper in New Jersey!!! Is there a certain irony there (armpit of the East New Jersey is soooo much better than Western NY and Southern Ontario)? And "a QB of Sanchez's class." Really? The guy sucks as a QB and was outplayed this year by both our pathetic QBs. The superiority of the Jets, come on. The Jets were minimally better than the Bills. The people there are way to arrogant for their own good. We'll see how good an idea it was next year when the Jets stink yet again, Sanchez throws another 20 INTs and doesn't progress. I for one am happy the guy did not interview b/c I think a 36 yr old is nowhere near prepared to take over a team like this. I'd be much happier with Fewell or Frazier. -
Pittsburgh newspaper article gives some insight on Grimm
Ray replied to muddy waters's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Exactly!!! He is such a brilliant offensive mind he has not even been offered an OC job. Why are people whining about him maybe not interviewing? That is fine with me. -
Thank goodness he declined....much better for us. Fewell would be a better HC than little Schotty anyways. He did such a wonderful job against the Bills' defense this year. I do not want a 35 yr old running this team. Frazier or Fewell would be better in my opinion anyways.

How was Kurt Warner in college and the AFL? How was Tom Brady in his one year at Michigan and how was Tony Romo at a small college in the midwest? QBs like other players come from ALL over the place. There are more QBs on cllege that have great records in college because they have superior talent on their team like M Leinhart. He has really lit up the pro game huh? Just get a very good QB. I'd like one that is used to winning and is a winner but Clausen may be the best QB in the draft and had inferior talent on the team compared to Oklahoma, Florida, and Texas.

Grimm tells us why the Bills gig isn't that good.
Ray replied to DarthICE's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
If Russ Grimm is such a wonderful HC candidate then why has he been passed over time and time again? Who cares what RG thinks? If these guys do not want the HC position here then I defintely do not want them. J Garrett turned down Atlanta and Baltimore, Rivera turned down Seattle as did L Frazier originally. It happens ALL the time. Maybe certain situations are good for some and no thers like EVERYTHING ELSE in life. Don't make it out to be more than it is. -
And the Bills not selling out an 80k seat stadium because they "only" sold 77k tickets is somewhat ridiculous. The New England market is top 5 in the US with only a 68k seat stadium. Remember it is actually closer to Providence then Boston so add in ALL of New England....CT, NH, VT, MA, RI.....that is a huge population base for a small stadium.
-
I would not mind Haslett simply b/c he is a good coach and wants to be here unlike a lot of others out there. He always said HC of the Bills was his dream job! He did well for the Saints and got them back to respectability. Also with the Rams you see how bad they are and Spagnola ( the defensive genius from the Giants) did worse than Haslett. So, the guy can coach and knows the game....I for one would not be upset with him as coach. A lot of coaching is getting the right fit. The right fit in Buffalo may/is not the right fit in Dallas or Seattle.
-
Exactly.....the Cleveland Browns have a good line and how did that work out for them? Horribly as they did not have a good QB. The Steelers had a bad OL last year (allowing the most sacks or close to it) yet because Big Ben is a great QB they won the SB. Same with the Cardinals last year.....reminder who they had at LT...Mike Gandy and they went to the SB b/c of Warner. You can bring in any coach here but it will not matter until we have a QB. Go ask Bellichick as he had essentially the same record as Jauron as a HC until T Brady took over. Oh yeah, and T Brady took over the exact same OL, RB and WRs that Bledsoe had and lost with....bottom line, WE NEED A QB more than anything.
-
People hear 3-4 defense and think it is better b/c it is "in" right now. We haven't been in the playoffs b/c we have not had a good QB in 10 years that is the most important reason why we have stunk. Our defense was good enough to get us to the playoffs this year. Our offense was one of the worst 2-3 in the league in scoring points first downs, 3rd down conversions....the list goes on. The run defense was bad but not nearly as bad or the reason this team was 6-10. I'd take Frazier running a 4-3 but understanding we do need some thinker guys up front to dominate....that has absolutely nothing to do with scheme and it never will. It is all about players and their attitude
-
So you wouldn't want Minnesota's defense? It makes no difference if it is a 3-4 or 4-3.....the Bills do NOT have personnel for a 3-4 and would have to go out and find 4-5 more defensive players for their front 7. Frazier's 4-3 has been better than 99% of the 3-4 defenses out there. I just want a great coach!
-
If Cowher construes those remarks as "blasting" him, then we do not want him as coach......he'd have to be super sensitive to think those are critical remarks.

Who we drafted and who we could have drafted 2002-2009
Ray replied to Buffalo 66's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
You could do that with every single team.....big deal. Also, Leodis Mckelvin is and will continue to be a very good CB. All teams in the 1st round passed on J Byrd and we took him and he lead the league in Ints and was runner-up for defensive ROY. I could go back in eveyone's life and told them what to do at that time...who to marry, what stocks to buy, etc... I agree the draft has killed the Bills mostly from Butlers last draft on forward but especially missing on MW (most people said he was a lock for 10 years remember!) and then JP Losman. Although many said draft Ngata instead of Whitner and I completely agree Whitner has been a decent player just not what you want out of a number 8 ppick, but neither has M Huff who was taken before him. Neither has J Russell, or Alex Smith, or R Leaf, Or etc, etc, etc The draft is a crapshoot every round every year just be happy it looks like this past draft for the Bills looks to be the best one in about a decade and probably no coincidence it was the first year Buddy Nix was back in the mix! -
how big of a joke is this team when...
Ray replied to OldTimer1960's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Yes, the Bills are such a big joke that a former SB winning coach is pleading with them to interview him! Maybe it is actually the Bills in the driver's seat. -
If Cowher does not come I really do not care if it is Perry....I see him as good as L Frazier who has never been a HC before. At least Perry has been 3-4 with R Fitzpatrick as his starting QB. I wonder how many coaches would do better. What I really want is a QB and some better players specifically at LT and at the OLB positions.
-
Well, that pretty much guarantees Cowher will NOT be our coach so we should all stop holding out hope for it to happen. Cowher will be golfing next week with Mike Sherman while the Bills are signing some other coach and havving a press conference.
