Coy Wire on Atlanta Radio this morning
Ray replied to DC Bills Fan's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Um.....Coy Wire is an average at best player. The biggest difference between the two tteams? Atlanta has a good QB. That is the biggest difference, and the biggest one that ever matters -
Clausen will NOT have a better career than Fitz. Clausen will have a Edward-esque career. Remember Fitz won his opener passing for over 300 yards. McCoy and Clausen were top rated but top rated in a year of bad QBs. The best thing the Bills did was NOT draft another bad QB

Former Bills (still in NFL) vs Current Bills
Ray replied to papazoid's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Were you going to guarantee Nate Clements $50M for an above average CB who lost his starting job in SF? I agree I would love to still have P Williams (Donahue and G Williams blew that one BIG TIME), J Greer, Winfield, Clements and Spikes and Fletcher and even Hargrove and TO. But the salary cap would be full if we had all of them. Bigger point is we do not have a QB and we are never going anywhere until we have a QB. -
Lynch trade talk intensifies after Packers game
Ray replied to Another Point of View's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
So many people want to trade ML for a 4th round pick that nets you a.........Marcus Easley type player or Dereck Fine or Reggie Corner. ML cap figure is very low, is signed thru 2013 and is only 24 yrs old and a former pro bowl RB and you want to give him away. For what? You do not give away assets unless you are stupid. Get something that improves your team if you trade him....he showed this week he is a good player and has value. He has made some very bonehead moves in his personal life.......but at the age of 22. That does not excuse what he did but makes you put it in perspective a bit more. -
If JP was any good he would be in the NFL right now. It was not just the Bills who realized he was bad.....it's the entire NFL! Trent is just as bad. It is too bad about JP because we all felt he really liked Buffalo, embraced the city, had physical tools but just cannot cut it in the NFL. I do agree at least he tried to make plays......see the youtube play where Evans beats Revis and the safety. He was not "open" as some people seem to say is the problem for Edwards but JP would take chances. If you are gonna suck, at least make it interesting......that is what JP had over Trent. Best of luck to both of them as they are both two very nice guys, just not NFL quality QBs.

They have been getting open as open in the NFL is having half a step or your QB knowing where you are making your cut and break on a thrown ball. This is NOT college where WRs are 5-10 yards open. Watch any other game and the WRs have just as much separation or lack of separation from the CBs as ours do yet the ball is thrown to them. WRs are open for split seconds. Our CBs had very good coverage on many completed passes for GB this past Sunday. The difference is Rodgers throws the ball and Trent does not. Last night V Davis was not open enough when covered by J Greer in terms of you seeing it overhead yet it was thrown to him and he made a 30 yard reception b/c the ball was thrown to him. You need to make the throw. WRs are "open" for split seconds at specific points in their routes and the QB has to be good enough to make the throw, and TE is just not good enough to do that. TE had a HOF WR last year, along with L Evans and he still would not throw the ball. R Fitz did and went 5-4....R Fitz is at best an average QB but actually below average and still went 5-4 when playing majority of the game. One win against the Jets he came into the game two scores down on the road to the team that was in the AFC championship game and won it. He made throws that TE would not and that was the difference.

J. Scott is starting LT for Pittsburgh
Ray replied to Fitzmagic's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
He can't be good since Jauron and AVP had him playing....he must be bad. Well Pittsburgh seemed to think he was good enough to be an OL on their team. -
Sullivan is a moron. Why trade ML for someone who may not even play or for a 4th round draft pick....where are our last 5 fourth round draft picks and have they helped the team? ML is at a VERY favorable cap figure, has a couple more years on his contract and provides value to your team. Why trade him for nothing. I can't see a reason to trade a very good player that will help this team this year for a huge unknown that odds say NEVER helps your team, or at best is a ST player.

Is Ryan Fitzpatrick a better option?
Ray replied to Another Point of View's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
The answer is an obvious yes he is a better option. Sadly R Fitz is better than our current QB. Edwards will look better in shorts and mini camp type scenarios but when it actually comes to actual NFL games R Fitz performs better and moves the ball better. He is obviously not the answer as a franchise QB but I think after tomorrow or even during tomorrow R Fitz plays. Will Gailey hook Edwards after a quarter or two of the same type of performance as Miami? I hope he would -
I have to agree with Bob of St Louis this qualifies in the running for worst post of the year. Keep in mind when he took over the team was in WORSE shape when he took over. He made mistakes but was here for two years. In that time two of his picks have been to Pro Bowls, Whitner is a good player (KC's GM picked a safety with the 6th pick this year and a safety who got burned bad last night by A Gates), Poz is a good player. You should thank him for NOT taking Leinart with that number one pick like a lot of people wanted as that would have set the franchise back even further. Not a great tenure by any means but some people have to let go of the venom.

Why not build it on the edge of the falls???
Ray replied to Merle Haggard's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
The idea of building the Bills stadium there is actually a very good idea.......but it will never happen without hundreds of millions in money from the state so it is not happening. They could I suppose turn it into a state of the art stadium/tourist attraction as NF NY is the 6th most popular tourist attraction in the US in numbers of visitors (and the Canadian side is WAY better). You could build a retractable roof stadium, the backdrop setting would be High Rises from the Canadian side and the mist from the Falls and it would be a great scene making Buffalo a great, even more unique environment to play. It is the same distance basically from NF to Buffalo as it is from OP to Buffalo. NF is closer to the important Canadian market and the Rochester contingent will come regardless of where it is as it is the same distance to NF give or take 5 miles. The problem is the debt service.....it would have to be done while Ralph is alive as no new owner can pay for the debt service of buying the team AND a new stadium in a market like Buffalo. Keep in mind that Howard Milstein owns 140+ acres in NF, NY and his lead person there is Roger Trevino Jim Kelly's former agent. Why is that important? Milstein wants an NFL team and tried to buy the Redskins but was outbid by Dan Snyder -
The largest market in the US not selling out for the season opener on MNF AND they are picked to have a great season! Cannot fault Buffalo for not selling out Jacksonville Detroit games this year!

Given that the Yankess are worth about 1.6 BILLION the money saved is about 900 MILLION. Crazy but true. But a very dumb and ridiculous tax anyways.
-
Obviously Buffalo was not his first choice given someone of his status and ego etc..... Few cities are commensurate with a lot of these guys' expectations and egos. LA, Vegas, NYC and Miami and partly Atlanta and Dallas and that is about it. Buffalo always seems to get a bad rap as nobody seems to mention Pittsburgh, Cleveland, Green Bay, Detroit, Cinci etc.... I agree with PTR that to the vast, vast majority those are great cities but do not have the glitz and glamaour that a lot of the athletes think they deserve. Remember you are dealing with some of the most coddled and self important people in the world....look at L James and how he just left Cleveland. It became too small for him and Miami and its glitz and glamour and fame fit his lifestyle better. Unfortunately that is what gets noticed in society. There are about 1000 employees at the Cleveland Clinic that will do more good for society today than L James will do in his entire life, but our society values, at least externally what L James does. That is no knock on him it just is how things are viewed....sad but true. TO took the high road in Buffalo and I think 95% of the blame for his poor performance (yet the best offensive player on the team last year anyways) was due to dreadful QB play. If the Bills had a great QB both he and Lee would have been in the pro bowl but we are still waiting for that QB and looks like we will for at least another few years...uplifting huh?

Optimistic, Excited Bills fans...click here!
Ray replied to BillsFanInLV's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
The Bills beat both tteams in the AFC Championship game this past year. They are not nearly as bad as many people here make them out to be. Remember these same types did run Wade Phillips out of town for not wearing a head set! They are probably a good amount off from being a SB contender but they are very close to being a playoff contender. I agree with you that there is so much negativity but that is the way message boards are.......if you told people when Marv took over in his two years he would pick two guys that would go to the Pro Bowl most would be happy...however, now he is apparently horrendous. -
I imagine they are down as they are advertising a lot more everywhere I see.....all over various radio, internet, TV outlets in Rochester and B'lo and So Ontario....much more than years past.
-
And he outcoached Shula, Marty Schottnheimer, Bill Cowher, etc...in playoff games. You guys can't have it both ways saying he got outcoached and then ignore all of the great coaches his teams beat! Bill Bellicheck is less than a .500 coach without Tom Brady....great coaches always have great players, it is the way it is and always will be. Marv actually did some of his better coaching later on in his career when the team had less skill but he would get them to the playoffs. Marv was the right coach for that group and is a HOF coach people. Listen to the players as they to a man say the reason they were so resilient was b/c of Marv. People amaze me how they want to bash everything with present past and future about this team!

Poz Second Best At HIs Position In The League?
Ray replied to yungmack's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I agree if you watched the games you could see Poz is a very good MLB. The problem with hte defense was that we have NO offense.....if the defense was off the field for 5-6 more minutes a game do you think they would be better? Of course they would. They are certainly not blameless as they let up 3td downs too often but not being forced to keep your team in the game every game would have helped. The best thing for a Bills defense is a great QB. Problem is we don't have one and I don't know when/where we'll get one. -
WECK 1230 AM not doing an announcer draft right now
Ray replied to NickMendola's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Already switched over.....really, an announcer draft? Do it on a day when there is NO news about this town's sports teams. Rookie camp, a possible trade for our new LT....no, nothing in the news worth talking about. -
So How Many BCS Championships Did Georgia Tech Win?
Ray replied to BillsPhan's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Nick Saban and Pete Carroll have really done well in the pro game? Who cares how GT did? They did well enough and Gailey has had MORE PRO GAME success than either of those guys who excelled at the college game. Why don't we compare AA baseball and managing the Yankees. The two are unrelated! -
They were going to replay it but I missed it as well. I did hear him comment on the QBs and basically said the same thing as Nix......did not see any of the guys in the draft as better....at least in terms of where they were going to draft them and the value of the pick. He thinks they need to see if any of these guys can play and physically they think they can as he said they have played great at times but then very poor at other times. Nothing earth shattering but makes some sense.

We can throw this in to the dumbest thread ever contest and it may come close to winning!
-
Good info and it debunks everyone's theories about needing all OL drafted in the 1st round. When you have a stud QB that is the number one thing you need and it makes the team infinitely better at every position including defense. There is very little difference between the top 20 LTs in the NFL, but there is a huge crater of difference between QB number one and QB number 20. Unfortunately we have neither a great QB or a great LT. But Cleveland has a bunch of Pro Bowl OL and 1st round OL yet they were horrible b/c they did not have a great QB. Gives people perspective though. And people who think Scott Pioli is so wonderful should realize he picked a safety with what the 5th pick? What about the Bills picking Whitner number 8? So teams do it......and so called "Great" GMs do it too.

I guess the Bills are not as High on Evans
Ray replied to Billsfan=pain's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Lee Evans is one of the top three players on the team and some want to trade him? Yes, great idea!!! He is an excellent WR, he has been the victim of horrendous QB play for his entire career. He would easily be a pro bowl WR every year if he played on NE or the Colts. Is it any coincidence that TO had the worst year of his career with Fitz-Edwards as his QB? Evans was consistnetly open last year, has no QB who has the arm or can act quick enough to m ake a play to him. Around the league, and against players he plays against he is known as one of the toughest guys to play against as he has excellent route running ability and speed. Bright move to let him go and have Tom Brady throw him 15 TDs and 100+ receptions a year. Show me a Pro Bowl WR with a horrendous QB....you can't!! -
He has said it consistently...he plays for the Bills or he retires. He is comfortable where he is, does not want to go to a new area, learn/meet new people, new atmosphere. He will play for the Bills or retire so no use in trading him.
