Good point. I'd speculate that several teams will be pretty much non-players save for signing their own.
-
How so?

That's quite a narrow view. Race car drivers are in a continual state of high physical and mental tension and stress for long periods of time They don't rest between shifts, changes of possession, sets, innings and the like. The large majority of us, even if we had the skill and coordination, would be physically and mentally drained in short order.

Pretty dull race from what bits I've seen so far. NASCAR seems to have erred - too much restrictor plate.

I glance at it now and then. I like to catch the last 50 or so laps. The NBA All-Star game is on TNT tonight. That definitely won't be on here. I wonder if they'll match the NHL All-Star Game for lousy ratings?

"Combine notebook New turf hasn't put the brakes on combine's No. 1 commodity BY MARK CURNUTTE | MCURNUTTE@ENQUIRER.COM 02/18/07 Why has the NFL scouting combine, where teams analyze how much players can lift and how fast they can run, become such a big deal? Here's why: More than $300 million has been spent on the signing bonuses for the first-round picks of the past three drafts alone. SPEED SELLS: In addition to counting the number of times a prospect can bench-press 225 pounds, teams will time players in the 40-yard dash. (A total of 15 players have completed more than 35 reps of 225 pounds in the past six years. That group is made up of 12 offensive or defensive linemen and also includes two linebackers and one fullback.) It was expected that the switch from the traditionally faster Astroturf at the RCA Dome to FieldTurf would affect times - essentially slowing them. Not so. Twenty-nine players ran sub-4.4-second times in the 40-yard dash on the old Astroturf 11 surface during the final two years (2004-05) the event was held on that old track. The majority of those players were cornerbacks or wide receivers. Last year's FieldTurf surface produced similar results, though several sources continued to argue that it would create slower times than in recent memory. At least 18-20 players were timed at or below 4.4 a year ago, according to the times officially released and credited by NFL Network. Speed is widely considered the most important attribute for defensive players. SPEAKING OF DEFENSE: If you are a defensive player invited to the combine, you have a 70-75 percent chance of being drafted, according to trends from the past nine combines. On the offensive side of the ball, those numbers decrease across the board, as offensive linemen and wide receivers barely reach 60 percent, and quarterbacks, running backs, fullbacks and tight ends slide closer to the 50-50 mark. WALK THE LINE: In the past 11 years (1995-2006), the most drafted position in the first round has been defensive lineman, with 82 total players selected in that period of time. JUMP HIGH: In the past two years, eight prospects have recorded vertical jumps of at least 42 inches.". http://news.enquirer.com/apps/pbcs.dll/art.../702180408/1066

?????? I was responding to frogger's RT comments. Nothing about Davis, or any OG... And who among us cannot "move in space"? Other than the dead. -

IIRC, some folks were commenting that after Peters was switched over, the bulk of the running plays went to the left. -
Not at the start of the season...then they were mid-to-lower SOS. The terrific final season records of SD and CHI, along with the improved showings of BAL, TEN, and NYJ vaulted them up.

It won't be long until some university goes crying to some Congressman for federal money to start a Center for Remote Control Medical Research, who will declare after a year or so that remote controls are a major contributor to obesity in society. The researchers will also enter into consulting contracts with WeightWatchers and Slim Fast. A Center for Economic Effects of Remote Controls will also be funded by taxpayer money, and they will in a timely fashion, calculate the dire economic consequences due to the remote control. Oprah Winfrey, Barbara Streisand, Alec Baldwin, George Clooney etc. will wail and wring their hands and accuse Republicans of an insidious plot. Congress will launch an investigation, and form a committee headed by none other than Sen. Schumer. The remote control manufacturers will meet with the committee at a neutral site - somewhere in the sunny Caribbean would be nice - and inject wads of cash into the Masters of the Universe's campaign warchests, so they can continue to discuss this problem of all problems. And so, we shall all sleep soundly ever after... -
Sniff...sniff...where is our Government when we need them most?...sniff...Schumer is not enough...we need all the Solons of Washington to help us...to guide us...Curt Flood, where are you now?...come help us, help us...Isn't there some appointed-for-life Federal judge somewhere, anywhere, to issue an edict?...oh, the humanity...

RFA, Tenny. And with Steinbach being shown the door, I doubt the B'gals are going to part with him via trade. -

"Redskin" - technically - refers to ceremonial war paint, not skin color. Miami (OH) up the road from me was attacked several years ago for their Redskin team name. So much for free speech. They changed it to the Redhawks. There were some spiffy suggestions at the time - replace the logo with a Mexican peanut - a redskin peanut - and since Miami (oh) has decent baseball, golf, and hockey teams, change the name to the "FourSkins". -

I once saw a cartoon - an old guy with a grubby hat and five days of stubble, elbows on the bar. The caption: "I spent most of my money on wimmen and beer. The rest, I just wasted.".

Sorry if this topic's been previously posted... "Lefty gets it right Ex-NFL tackle, family touched BY PAUL DAUGHERTY | ENQUIRER STAFF WRITER 02/16/07 On knees gnarled as driftwood, Conrad Dobler rose to take the phone call that would change his daughter's life. On the other end of the line was a lawyer named Glenn Cohen, who had been instructed by one of his clients to pay for the college education of Dobler's daughter, Holli. There are good deeds and there are good deeds. They're separated by their size, of course, but also by the amount of noise that is attached. Oprah Winfrey building a house for someone is a good deed that everyone knows about. Phil Mickelson offering to pay Holli Dobler's way through four years at Miami University is something else entirely. Mickelson had seen on TV a piece about the Dobler family: Conrad, for 12 years among the meanest and toughest players in the NFL, now reduced to gimpdom by multiple surgeries to his replaced knees; Joy, his wife, who on July 4, 2001, fell from a hammock in their backyard, breaking her neck and becoming a quadriplegic; and their six children, one of whom was Holli, struggling to make sense of it all."... http://news.enquirer.com/apps/pbcs.dll/art...COL03/702160433

My Jeep had an 80" wheelbase. I'm mystified as to how things like antiskid, antilock brakes, and traction control work off-road. I'd guess that traction control, depending on the system, would either grab-release-grab the brakes until they fried, or cut back engine power when it's needed most. Hopefully the buggy would be equipped with a t/c shut-off. I'd also worry about those expensive antilock wheel hubs getting bugged up.

United States One Dollar Coin rolled out Today...
stuckincincy replied to millbank's topic in Off the Wall Archives
That's what it would take. The new US dollar coins - like its predecessors, are profitable for the U.S. Mint...and Government. The Federal Reserve Banks - and all other banks that they serve - must accept them. And pay their other, monetarily equivelent funds back to the Federal government once they take that forced possession. Unlike the IRS, the Mint doesn't give one a sporting chance... Serious implementation of a dollar coin in the USA would one, require the elimination of the paper buck as you note, and two, make it the size of former half-dollar coins so it feels different in the pocket and hand of the people.
