  1. Combine notebook Lewis high on OL Whitworth's future BY MARK CURNUTTE Cincinnati Enquirer| MCURNUTTE@ENQUIRER.COM 02/25/07 ..." FREE AGENCY: The Ravens did not use the franchise tag on outside linebacker/end Adalius Thomas because they were just $3 million under the salary cap. The tag would have cost the Ravens $7.2 million. "That was not an 11th-hour decision," Ravens general manager Ozzie Newsome said. Thomas would be the kind of playmaker the Bengals desperately need on defense, but his stats might have been inflated in the Ravens' scheme because he often had freelance opportunities as the team's designated "runner." Asked if he would like to re-sign Thomas, Newsome said: "We don't know. From what I'm hearing the market is, there is a lot of money out there."."... http://news.enquirer.com/apps/pbcs.dll/art.../702250416/1066
  2. Could be a well-spent 2 cents, if the Bills end up being in the market. He's quite a good player.
  3. Article from this morning's Cincy n'paper, about the new CBA, and unshared revenue putting the blocks to small-market clubs. As we know, B'gals owner Brown & B'lls' Wilson were the 2 to vote against the new agreement. I didn't know that each team has to pay 21 million/year for players benefits. Must be a nice package... Or that a small market team - the B'gals - pays out 68% of their revenue to players (Bflo is similar - Ralph says the Bills pay out 65%), while the big-market clubs pay out only 47% as the wealthy teams' unshared revenue pushes the cap higher and higher. "Haves' vs. 'Have-mores' Small-market owners warn of widening gap in teams' revenues BY MARK CURNUTTE | MCURNUTTE@ENQUIRER.COM 02/25/07 INDIANAPOLIS - Coaches, executives and scouts from all 32 NFL teams have gathered here this week for the annual scouting combine, the unofficial start of the new season, when clubs share the cost of getting an up-close look at the top draft-eligible college players. Teams with the worst records last season will have the first picks April 28. At 12:01 Friday morning, another session will begin of veteran free agency, the process in which teams, governed by a uniform spending limit, can compete fairly on the open market for players. NFL draft and free-agency structures are just two practices that ensure competitive balance, the reason that teams from two small cities, Pittsburgh and Indianapolis, won the last two Super Bowls. But the management of the Cincinnati Bengals, Jacksonville Jaguars and several other small-market NFL teams are warning that the league's competitive balance is being threatened by tremendous growth in revenues that have resulted - in large part - from that level playing field.". etc. http://news.enquirer.com/apps/pbcs.dll/art...0430/1067/SPT02
  4. A fleeting flashback to 1976 and Charlie O...
  5. Well, that is a nice list. But having an offensive powerhouse - the Colts were 66 - 30 in the regular season over that span - allows for certain luxuries...
  6. WMG + Tom Coughlin + the NYC press.
  7. Then let it carry through 3.5 rounds, more or less. The topic question was if anyone cared. It is evident that I care, you do not care, and I care not that you do not care that I care. Take care.
  8. As I noted, a minor point. But one that carries through 7 rounds.
  9. Cutting a putative starter - TKO - before the draft tips one's hand to a degree. Barring a FA linebacker acquisition, other teams are put on notice that the Bills are more apt to select a LB at some point. If one of them is also in the market, for a LB, I suppose they could be motivated to grab someone the Bills had their eye on. Just a thought...
  10. A minor point, but I'd rather have the #3 go to an NFC team rather than an AFC team.
  11. This is after the fact. They didn't have on paper, a tough one before the season started. But the gaudy regular season records of SD and CHI, plus the surprising records of BAL, NYJ, and TEN, vaulted them up after the season was over.
  12. Madden also had fullbacks that weren't just blocking ornaments. He ran them often, with success. And in the waning minutes, when the conventional wisdom then as now said work the sidelines, he had his qb's hit the abandoned middle with winning success. Hence Kenny Stabler's sobriquet..."The Snake". A lot of folks think of Madden as a colorful character, perhaps a bit of a buffoon, and a name on a game - but as I'm sure you know, Bill - he was one of the most successful NFL coaches ever. His clubs captivated the viewing audience...the KC-OAK rivalry of that era remains unmatched IMO.
  13. Omerta.
  14. I recall a notable Montreal - Quebec playoff game a good number of years ago.
  15. Are they playing football?
  16. Does he play football?
  17. He never learned to scroll down.
  18. Me too! I deleted my previous posts.
  19. Perhaps, but OH is third in tax burden close behind NY and CA (our politicians grab earners by the ankles and shake large amounts of coin out of them so they can buy votes from the great unwashed, same as NY and CA). The youthful NFL soon-to-be millionaires still show up.
  20. You must be the doorman at a mighty posh hotel. I assume that's comp'ed. j/k
  21. CIN re-signed Doug Johnson a few weeks ago. QB Anthony Wright, who along with Johnson was brought in on a one year contract as insurance if Palmer didn't recover, may well not be re-signed. He did a nice job in pre-season, was a decent guy in his tenure with the B'gals, and I think he'll attract some interest.
