  1. Remember coming across and looking at that thing in the closet?
  2. The leech and its' curative benefit for wounds is established. I was never deeply wounded. The usual treatment depending on the complaint was a) a glass of ginger ale soda pop. Several - which was generous, considering it went for 25 cents per quart. b) a slathering of Vicks Vap-o-Rub upon the chest. c) increased consumption of root vegetables. d) an egg. f) saltine crackers. g) colloidal oatmeal bath. h) an enema.
  3. I err on the side of precaution - I take one of the ACE I generics for mild hypertension. I'm aware of the metabolic problems with statins. An excellent resource is The Pill Book: http://www.randomhouse.com/catalog/display...n=9780553593402 There is a lot to be said for the statin compounds, but they have their own set of problems, and reducing lipid intake as the first thing goes a long way. I've noticed a flurry of ads on tv recently for the fenofibrates to reduce triglycerides - TriCor, and another brand name. Read up on them, and approach any prescribing of them with *strong* skepticism. Generic Omega-3 supplements do a bang-up job of knocking down triglyceride levels - but use them cautiously - they can raise blood glucose levels and have a propensity to cause bleeding. If you have a diabetic condition, or a subtle blood disorder that shows excess protein fragments, go slow there.
  4. I miss grapefruit, which I can no longer eat because of conflicts with one of my meds. I also like strawberries. Back when we lived in the Pgh area, there was a place named Trax farms, that had a u-pick-em field. Still in business, I see: http://www.traxfarms.com/ We had young spines then, so we picked. Oh - if you suffer from gout - I take a tablespoon of black cherry juice per day. I've gone through it all - allopurinol, NSAIDS, diet restrictions and so on. For years. I have found that the recommendation of cherry juice to be an effective prophylactic, combined with a low purine diet. I purchase this brand. $16.99 from the grocery chain, Meijer's. I pay half, for they have their buy one get one free sales. http://www.sundownnaturals.com/products/pa...px?ParentID=125 Forgive me for touting a particular product - but for those who have writhed, I think you should give it a try. Herbs, supplements can be a big help. But use caution. Here's a site from the Univ. of MD which talks about such, and provides precautions: http://www.umm.edu/altmed/
  5. In an honest world, He's be flagged 3 times for pass interference - minimum - per game...
  6. Don't deflect, blame your error onto this board's posters. You know full well what is common usage here after your 91 posts. If something "screwy" happened, go back and edit - simple. You have the ability to modify the font and size of what you post. RIGHT?
  7. I wish they wouldn't have shot off their mouth before the draft, and not announced to 31 other teams that they were going to a 3-4 and were in the market for a NT. Same with the "scatback' pap...grrr. Even the idiot Candy Stripers by the Ohio River realized the value of keeping one's trap shut... "Bengals defensive coordinator Mike Zimmer hasn't decided yet if he's going to show more 3-4 looks out of his base 4-3 this year than in his two previous seasons in Cincinnati. He's not showing his cards. Just to keep foes guessing, he has simplified the scheme and given more players more roles just in case the Bengals do use more 3-4."... http://www.bengals.com/news/article-1/New-...93-15d29dc0acf7
  8. Perhaps someone will chime in. My impression is that they are against such.
  9. Possibly...an intractable itch.
  10. That will never happen. It's a closed union shop, and the incumbents are not at all interested in increasing the brotherhood, as most unions are. The last thing that the NFLPA rank and file wants, is to see their slices of the pie get reduced by additional membership.
  11. Have you ever considered even spending 15 seconds to type in a bit of a description of your links? Ever? I almost never click on them, because you don't extend that common courtesy... you are lazy and presumptive that we should take your links on faith. Please do better...
  12. I own a Braves ashtray, a gift from a godchild. The original colors, not the blue.
  13. I don't mind the bye weeks. But I'm with ya about a division all having the same week. My guess is that stadium scheduling works against that, though. Dunno..
  14. No federal worker will suffer the slightest. It is JUST NOT DONE. Pay and pension benefits always continue. NO exceptions.
  15. The preseason is not a farce - it's a showcase to see how new players play, if they merit a roster spot. You are spot on about injuries.
  16. Broken cheese puff.
  17. Well over 90% of incidents are perpetrated by those who know the child victim - family and trusted friends. That doesn't matter a whit to the politicos who churn political re-election hay for themselves, and the so-called "helicopter" parents. I recall a tv clip of a City Council meeting populated by same last year, screaming for ever more Draconian laws and punishments. Your child will be abused or get kidnapped or die before I will lift a finger. All I would do these days is provide a report only if detained and asked, lest I be accused and turned over for some grand jury proceeding. Frankly - I wouldn't even call the authorities, because if absent a ready suspect, they would turn their prosecutorial eyes on me. I don't care to be another notch on their belt and a talking point for their re-election campaigns... Very sad.
  18. I wonder what he is alleged to have done? With today's goofy laws, I've said several times - however sad - I wouldn't restrain a child running into traffic to certain death. For I may well be charged as a sexual predator, and be forced to leave my home and my wife. Two years ago here in the greater Cincy area, a kid crawled into a parked car and was roasting. The owner saw that, but rather than rescue the kid and being observed and charged with touching a child, he called the police and waited and watched the suffering. I don't blame him. The days of the natural concern to help a youngster in distress is over.
  19. WMG has 26 rush tds and 3 pass tds since we traded him. And he was a part-timer his last 2 years. Ouch!
  20. Do that against me a few times and one of them will be carted off the field looking like a broken pretzel.
  21. I do. However, their workforce liability doesn't include getting fired, demoted, any loss of pension or benefits, etc. They are the special ones...good work, bad work - not a whit of concern needed, never a repercussion. Not a single person will be discharged. Quite the contrary, hands will be rubbed to extract honors and money to enhance the retirement easy street.
  22. Come visit the Reds' "Great American Ball Park." In its' brief existence, I believe it owns the HR season records.
  23. Yeah - run by and through federal workers. I can see agencies now, rubbing their foreparts together and figuring out how many FTE's they can hire and planning all the travel expenses to do this good work. 20B = 10B once our protected class extracts their cut...
  24. It would have been nice if he noted that BP was a top contributor to his campaign, that they had something like 700 safety citations vs. other oil companies weighing in at under ten, or that his Interior Dept. had a gala planned to honor BP the day before the disaster, or that their review of BP's drilling plans got a whitewash (Blackwash?) treatment .
