On your original post you said: You've heard the explainations of how someone can easily increase their score from a 14 to a 31. Are you ready to admit that JP does in fact have the high wonderlic score that, on average, allows a QB to be better able to read a defense than a guy with a lower score?

Marv and Jauron on channel 2 tonight
sfladave replied to power play's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Couldn't agree more! It warms my heart to hear the lines are going to be the priority. -
So that means that you agree that JPs wonderlic score is well within the parameters of what is required to QB a SB team, in fact it is above the average of past SB winners.
-
Have you ever taken a wonderlic? I have and they are a timed exam. Many people who take it the first time make the big mistake of spending too much time on a particular problem. They try and figure out a problem they are unsure of instead of just going to the next problem immediately. This especially applies to math questions. It is the norm for someone's score to go up the second time they take the test. How well someone tests in these types of exams is not a very good gage of how well they can do on the field. Plenty of QBs score low and still do an excellent job reading defenses. Marino scored a 12 or 14 and I think he managed to hold his own. edit: I look forward to the day that the majority of your posts are not devoted to the ripping JP crusade. When discussing something else some of your posts are actually of some interest.

It was a poorly worded post on my part. I was refering to this years crop of OL, and I include D'Brick in that statement.
-
This one is pretty nice! This one isn't bad either!
-
Read one of your own posts from that topic. You yourself are saying that a response to either of the options was in fact wrong. It was a loaded question. I didn't vote in the poll for that very reason. Now if you wanted an accurate feel for how people really feel you would ask something like, "Should there be more or less white players in the NFL?", or "Should there be more or less black players in the NFL?" You shouldn't be comparing black coaches to white players in the context that you used. If the idea of your poll was to find out if people think that we need to regulate the % of white players just like some suggest we do with black coaches then you need to clarify that and change the wording to reflect that. I think most people here would agree then that everything should be based on qualification rather than race.

Hmmm...Perhaps if you stopped using caps all the time people may have understood that. Get it now?
-
Wow, slow down there bud. First lay off the caps, no one like a shouter. Second, where on Earth did you get the idea that this board is biased toward wanting a "white" guy for any position? If anything I have heard nearly everyone express a desire for either Ngata, D'Brickshaw, Holi or Young, all of whom are "black." Most here at TSW poke fun at the fact that we have drafted several "high motor white guys", not the opposite. Take a deep breathe, turn off the CAPS and realize this is not a racially charged forum, in my humble opinion. Now if you were being sarcastic, never mind!

I understand your logic that if the Bills organization is anything but convinced of JPs potential they would have to formulate a strategy on how to replace him. Even if the Bills have no faith in JPs future, I don't think that drafting Cutler with the 8th pick is the probable solution. What I think that you must consider is that the QB strategy is incorporated into the larger overall team strategy. With the exception of a few tunnel visioned crusaders, everyone here knows that the Bills have many problems and we are not one or two people away from being SB contenders. Therefore the Bills must formulate a strategy on how to correct many problem areas. As I've said before, we need to put the horse back in front of the cart. For too many years the Bills have been trying to load up on skill players and ignore what gives really good teams their consistency, the offensive and defensive lines. The result of this is that we have been totally inconsistent. We've had more losses than wins and the good plays and wins are far outweighed by the ugly plays and losses. We lack any consistency, due in large part because of the sub par play in the trenches. Ralph said, "Changes will be made.", and "We want to win now." If the Bills are looking to follow this new philosophy then they will upgrade the lines and use a QB that has some NFL experience. More than likely it will take Cutler 1 or 2 years before he is able to suitably run an NFL offense. So are we better off taking a lineman like Ngata, Williams or D'Brickshaw who can contribute much more right away, or someone like Cutler, who may contribute in 1 to 2 years? No brainer I'd say. A QB pick on day 2 may happen, but I just don't see a 1st, 2nd or either of our 3rds being used for a QB. I think that this year the Bills will beef up our lines and then run the offense with JP and Holcomb. If they are still unhappy with the QB situation at the end of the 2006 season then in 2007 we pick up a FA QB and draft a QB high then. We will have gone a long way to establishing a solid foundation and that is much more important than adding another skill player.

Lewis and Taylor are the only two that have gotten into serious trouble with the law and I would take either of them in a heart beat. As for injuries, I don't think there are more injuries than normal out of this group as compared to the rest of the NFL. If you don't like the Hurricanes, fine, but don't try to dismiss the current crop of players they have in the NFL because of it. What other college has even come close to producing this many excellent current players?
-
Ray Lewis, Dan Morgan, Santana Moss, Reggie Wayne, Bubba Franks, Edgerrin James, Jeremy Shocky, Philip Buchanon, Ed Reed, Clinton Portis, Najeh Davenport, Andre Johnson, Jerome McDougle, Willis McGahee, William Joseph, Sean Taylor, Kellen Winslow, Jonathan Vilma, DJ Williams and Vince Wilfork. These are all active players in the NFL right now. This is a list of 20 guys who I would have no problem if they were on the Bills. They might have the collective intelligence of a rock but they are the real deal. I did include Winslow even though he is an idiot and didn't play, because he will be an excellent TE for years to come. That is if he can stay away from stupid stunts, which is not a given.

Really, someone posted a stat a few months back that showed Bailey had in fact been burned more often and gave up more big pass plays than Nate for the last 3 years running. I don't have a link but I believe it came from a pay site like Stats inc.

How long do you think before Fairchild recruits..
sfladave replied to Tipster19's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
We have not had a TE extensively involved in our passing game in years. I do not think that this is a reflection of our TEs as much as it is a reflection of our OLs. We have had a sub par OL for years now, that in itself dictates that we almost always use the TEs exclusively for blocking. If we can significantly upgrade our OL it will automatically upgrade our TEs, even with the current roster of Campbell, Euhus and Everett. BTW, I saw Everett play in college quite a bit and he can be a good and maybe even a great TE in the NFL. That is as long as he doesn't get another freak injury. -
But $1 million is nothing these days, perhaps you meant $1 BILLION!
-
HOT! HOT! HOT! She can justify caps! By the way in my humble opinion this is a terrible topic/post subject! It reeks of either racism or 3rd grade antics.

Are you suggesting that he would hold out for the majority of the year rather than sign the franchise tag offer? As I posted earlier, I agree that Nate would probably turn down the 1st offer from the Bills, they'll then tag him, and I think that they would work out a long term deal before preseason even begins. Even if they didn't I would be willing to bet Nate would sign the tag offer if the Bills refuse to look at trade proposals. He is worth a lot more to this team than a mid to late 1st round pick. The Bills should not let him go as easily as they did the PP trade. Everyone says that Nate wants Bailey money or else! Well I for one think Bailey was a little overpaid, but I also think that Nate is just as good as Bailey is. I think that we'll wind up paying Nate a nice but fair contract.
-
I agree. The # 4 pick, as we all know, comes with risk and a huge salary. I think that we can get an impact player at the #8 pick. The only reason you move up into the top 5 picks is to get a franchise player. An OL is not a franchise player. Maybe I'm being a bit sour on picking an OT in the top 5 because of our recent experiences, BUT when I saw d'Brick play at the senior bowl I was TOTALLY unimpressed! I would personally rather see the Bills take one of the DL with the 8th pick. If one of the top DL is not available , trade down! I would much rather see the Bills primarily address the OL in FA. Pick up some OL in the 2-7th rounds but go DL in the 1st.

Williams played very well for most of the 2004 season, that is why I was so disappointed in the major step back he took in 2005. When he is healthy he seems to be a dominating force. Unfortunately he is hurt more than Jennings was.

Will the new coaching staff support JP...
sfladave replied to Tipster19's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
You completely ignored what Max Fischer said, which was, "In other words, QB, even if JP is average, is the least important change the team needs." LEAST IMPORTANT CHANGE THE TEAM NEEDS! He never said that the QB is not the most important position, he was saying we have other areas that are far more important to address! I'm sorry but you have now sunk to the level of a crusader in my opinion, which is only a half step above an instigating troll. Your support of the Bills needing to replace JP has been noted and even respected by myself. However your constant closed minded crusading approach to this is VERY old and VERY....yawn...boring. Put the horse back in front of the cart. In other words fix the biggest problem first, our lines. The Bills have not had a good OL since the SB years. Just because they have not tried to fix it since then does not mean that they shouldn't have. RJ, Flutie, Bledsoe, Losman and even Holcomb all could have performed MUCH better if we had focused on upgrading our OL. I look to Pittsburgh and see how they handled Ben. They kept things very simple for him at first and then gradually expanded the passing game as he became more comfortable and confident. They were able to do this because they had an excellent OL and running game. The Bills should have done the same for JP, but they didn't. Holcomb might be better equipped to run a more complex offense because of his experience. He will not however give us any upside. Holcombs limitations can not be overcome. JPs probably can be if he is brought along at a proper pace. -
I think the fact that Jauron has stated that we are going to a cover 2 almost certainly means Nate will be a Bill next year. We are not going to trade Nate for a 1st and then draft a replacement. Furthermore we are not going to trade Nate for a 1st and then go out and pay for a vet to come in here to replace him. I think that the Bills will offer Nate a contract before FA begins. If Nate doesn't sign the Bills will franchise him. I think before preseason starts the Bills will work out a long term contract with him. edit: BillsFanForever19 I think that the other scenerio you mentioned with a team like Denver is always possible. If we are at 8 and the brick, ngata, and mario are all gone then it makes sense to look to trade. The last thing we should do is reach for someone at 8, instead we should trade down to aquire some additional picks. That being said, I suspect that we will find an excellent DL at the number 8 spot waiting for us.

1. NO. 2. If the NCAA can ever get their stojan together and give us a IA playoff system, the NFL would really have something to worry about. Until then it is a farce even in the entertaining sense. 3. It is still the best professional sports league going, hands down there is nothing close. Of course I too will still keep watching, but the NFL playoffs do lack the emotional build up you get in the NHL and MLB.

Why is nobody talking about the real game
sfladave replied to JÂy RÛßeÒ's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Dam maybe this would have been more entertaining. There was even the plan for the perfect puppy bowl. I really wish I had read up on the games and entertainment section before I threw my party. "The adults and children will be entertained by the Puppy Bowl and food. The Kitten Half-time Show will gather a big crowd. But just in case the kids get a little restless, here are some fun games to keep them busy: Pin the Tail on the Puppy – Just like Pin the Tail on the Donkey. Have your favorite dog image blown up and tape it to the wall. Create a tail with heavy paper or use a feather or bow. Have the children take turns trying to pin the tail on the puppy with their eyes shut or blindfolded. Puppy, Puppy, Kitten – Just like "Duck, Duck, Goose." This game involves the children sitting in a circle. One child goes around the circle lightly tapping the other children’s heads, saying "Puppy." When the child taps someone’s head and says "Kitten," both children must run around the circle in hopes of being the first to sit down. Whoever is left standing is "it." Puppy Trainer Says – Just like "Simon Says", only the "Puppy Trainer" tells the crew of children to do different dog tricks. He or she always starts with "Puppy Trainer says" and adds the trick, like "Puppy Trainer says sit" or "Puppy Trainer says roll over." If the puppy trainer doesn’t say "Puppy Trainer" before the trick, and children do the trick anyway, they are out of the game. The winner is the child who outlasts all other game players. Next: Send Them Home With a Doggy Bag" -
Perhaps the notes didn't originate from Ralph at all. Maybe it was TD sending them with Ralph's name on it. eg. "Chief of security, it is inappropriate to have signs in the stadium calling for Tom Donahoe's lynching, kick those idiot fans out."

Who's the greatest Bills Rb of all-time?
sfladave replied to Oneonta Buffalo Fan's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
That was actually the first person who I thought of who was more deserving.
