I'm not talking about Karma here. I never said that Brees hasn't been well compensated over his NFL career. I said, plain and simple, he lost out last year. San Diego got another year out of Brees at a bargain of $8M while they made a legitimate run at the SB with him at the helm as oppossed to the unproven Rivers.

Well perhaps if you were not a "Semi-Retired Costumed Crusader", perhaps you could have prevented this dilemma. Another slacker! -
Last year he could have gotten that $9-18M range in signing bonus alone. That is were he missed out. If SD didn't tag him he would have been in demand. He got less than he would have last year and he got hurt in the mean time. Just like Jevon Walker, his value went down over the last year because of the injuries and hence the unknown factor in their true readiness for next year. What happened his first couple of years and what he was paid then means nothing about what he may have gotten on the open market last year. He was a hot commodity last year and he would have attracted a lot of interest in FA. Hence he would have been paid more than he made with the Chargers.

Then let's just say that Rivers is the only one who made out in this deal.

Brees got screwed a bit by being franchised last year. If he went out on the open market last year he would have received a nice fat contract with a big signing bonus. He still got paid something in the neighborhood of $8M last year, but he ended up hurt at the end of the year and when exactly he will be 100% is not known. That being said, I doubt the Bills can afford his services especially since it is a big question mark as to when he'll be ready to play. Someone will still pay him, and pay him well. I can see Miami, Oakland, or Tennessee making a play for him.

That may be on his wish list but the vast majority of owners will not stand for an uncapped year. -
Talent wise I think he is the best in the league. The problem with TO is that he has always been a problem child. I really don't think any team or coach will be able to keep him under control for an extended period of time. I suspect he may be on good behavior where ever he plays this year, but next year...LOOK OUT!

What should the Bills have done at QB

I would hardly say that Ben won that SB. He did have a lot to do with getting them there, but the team won the SB despite his play that day. -
They are no different than the rest of the world, except there is no news story in talking about domestic abuse cases involving people who are not famous.

As in, a 300 yard game isn't what it used to be in Buffalo on any given Sunday by the home team?

I asked if Takeo would completely recover from his injury by the time our regular season starts. The Magic 8-ball said, "Without a doubt." Will he help the Bills defense become dominant again? The Magic 8-ball said, "Yes." So there you have it, there is no need for further worry!

There is a certain Bills Backer in England who is hoping for a certain AFC East team to be named to play in London. -
Who's the greatest Bills Rb of all-time?

At Miami Willis had speed, real speed. When he broke out he was gone. He had one of the fastest 40 times in Canes history. Then he hurt his knee and hurt it bad. Since then he has gotten MUCH bigger and...gulp...a little slower. The problem I see with Willis is that when he was in college he could get away dancing because he was so fast and could make people miss him. If he didn't get hurt he might still be able to do that in the NFL. Last year I think he was still concerned about his knee and he ran a style different than what he ran in the past. He didn't try to make drastic cuts, instead he tried the straight ahead and slide outside while using his new found power to gain yards. This year he started reverting back to his old style and it just didn't work. Willis may gain some more of his speed back but I doubt he will ever get it all back. His increased body mass alone will probably prevent this. Edge had a similar injury and it took him just over 2 years to nearly recover his speed, so Willis may just get a little more back. If he does and he learns how to use that speed with his new larger size he could be formidable. I don't question Willis's heart, he has shown me that he has plenty during his rehab. What he needs to show me is that he has learned how to work with what he has. He needs to stop with the dancing and he needs to start hitting the holes without hesitation. A better OL will of course help with this, but more running plays and screens to the outside will also help. -
Therine lies the conundrum. You can point out what you think are faults with JP, but are you qualified to do so? Was it his ability to read defenses, his injuries, his OL, the play calling, the vets not liking the fact that he was handed the job, his low then high wonderlic score, etc... We simply are not informed enough to make an accurate judgment. I do respect that you think that JP does not have a high probability to succeed, however even you have to admit that other than the "JP could possibly make it" reply, you do not acknowledge anyone else's opinions as having any validity. It does not help that you seem to be on a crusade regarding this matter. I respect your opinion, I just detest your "negative spin" on JP any chance you get. This topic that you started is a prime example. You were throwing out the JP may have cheated on the wonderlic scenario without any form of objectivity. Your statements come across as though you are the ultimate authority on the matter, and even when you are shown to be over stepping your known authority you answer back with little supporting evidence and continue on with the charade as though you do know all. Everyone here has their personal opinions about the Bills and what they need to do to become more successful, it just seems as though you are fixated on one subject. When someone is fixated on only one thing it becomes old and unwelcome.

Bills working on Moulds' situation
sfladave replied to MadBuffaloDisease's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
The problem is that a player cannot drastically reduce their contract. They can only reduce their salary due to them by somewhere around 10-20%. He could restructure it so that he gets a signing bonus with in 10-20% of what he is due this year but that is then prorated over the term of the extension. So unless he stays with us for the length of the contract we will take the hit next year or the year after instead of this year. -
Anyone smart enough would also not look at any situation with tunnel vision. Your quest to run JP out of town is an excellent example of making assumptions without doing proper due diligence. None of us can expertly say that JP does or doesn't have what it takes to make it in the NFL. None of us have proper experience or have done the proper research to make judgment on the situation. Therein lies the problem that I have with the majority of your posts. You make unqualified assumptions and refuse to acknowledge the validity of opposing opinions. I have said many times before that I do not know if JP will be able to to perform at the level of a top NFL QB. I think he has a good chance to if he is given a good OL and the play calling is not done with the help of a magic 8 ball. I also acknowledge the fact that he may never reach that level. That is the difference between you and I, I accept that I may be wrong and acknowledge it, you do not.

To me keeping Nate is an important piece of the puzzle. I think we need to agree to disagree. It's a good thing we are not the ones trying to reach a consensus at OBD, we'd be making phone calls to each other at 3am to emphasize our points.
-
I assume then that you would suggest that we start someone currently under contract or draft a CB. The problem I have with this is that no one currently on the roster or anyone we could draft would be able to step in to play CB as well as Nate can. So we would be taking a major step back in that position that Marv himself has said is so important, and to which I happen to strongly agree. To me any 1st round pick in a trade for Nate is a downward move for the Bills. Even when you factor in the cap savings it doesn't make sense to me. We still have to pay that additional 1st rounder and do it for an unknown in terms of contribution to the team. Ultimately I would like Nate signed to a long term deal before the beginning of the season. It would more than likely lower the cap hit and give us a very good CB tandem for the next 3-5 years. BTW I think that good CBs are what is needed in a cover 2 as opposed to barely adequate ones.

Well I for one have always thought that the wonderlic was a poor determination of a players ability to do well in the NFL. The reason I pushed you on this point was that it was you who said that you think that someone who does score well on this test has a better chance of doing well in the NFL than someone who doesn't score as well. The sample test that you keep referencing is a good indication of the wonderlic. Even if you think that it isn't ideal it still tests all individuals equally. So JPs 31 is still better than Bens 25. He still has a better grasp of the questions than Ben did. BTW Holcomb scored an 18. Just messing with you, I don't know what he scored.
-
This is where I disagree, I think the Bills will keep Nate if they franchise him. This is especially likely when you factor in Marv's comments about having 3-4 good CBs is very important.
-
Come on HA I'm still looking for an answer from the previous post. "You've heard the explainations of how someone can easily increase their score from a 14 to a 31. Are you ready to admit that JP does in fact have the high wonderlic score that, on average, allows a QB to be better able to read a defense than a guy with a lower score?"

Question: Why has the TE/HB & FB position been
sfladave replied to Tipster19's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
We have had a sub par OL for years now. We have been forced to keep our TE in to help with blocking. That is why it seems like our TEs have been sub par for the last few years. Our current crop of TEs, while they might not be consistent pro bowlers would have and will look much better with an upgraded OL. I saw quite a bit of Everett in college and the kid has what it takes to be a very good TE in the NFL. Everett also never had major issues with blocking in college. I think that Everett and Euhus will do just fine if we do upgrade the line.
