  1. Some of you guys really need to man up and quit whining about the weather. Ooooh it snows in Buffalo, can't live there, too cold for me. Bunch of wussies!!! Is it inconvenient? Yes sometimes. Is it unbearable? absolutely not. Besides the snow is nice break from mowing the lawn and having to dig up half the yard for my wife's 20 freakin gardens. If it's so nice everywhere else maybe some of you out of towners can plant some seeds and grow a set.....
  2. Obviously the downfall started with losing Briere and Drury in the off season, then they trade their best defensemen mid season. So 3 huge pieces from the presidents cup winning team from a year ago were gone to end this season. You can throw in trading a solid backup goalie into the equation as well. It's really not surprising they missed the playoffs. Could they have been a 7 or 8 seed, yes definitely. I think 7 through 11 are all pretty even teams. But I really feel they do not have to make too many moves to get this team back in contention. Start by cutting ties or trading Kalinin, Afinogenov, Paetsch, Pratt and Connely. It would be nice to add a playmaker, but I think their offense is pretty good. At minimum they need some defensive help, I would keep Lydman, Sekera, Tallinder and Spacek and bring in a couple proven veteran defensemen. And you have Weber to call up in case of injury. The big decision is with Miller. Is he the goalie of the future? Do they invest a boat load of money in this guy? I really would not want to make that decision. Especially when you watch goalies like Price last night, that guy is phenomenal! Can Miller get to that level? He proved this year that he can't do it alone, he definitely needs a really good defense in front of him. But I also think he was extremely over worked. So, do you invest in Miller and build the defense. Or do you cut ties and try to find the next Price? There will be some tough decisions this off season. They really aren't too far away, let's hope they do something to get them back in contention....
  3. A show called Sport Science created by Fox Sports Net was on MSG before the Sabres game and was really interesting. I missed the beginning, but they hooked up athletes to all these monitors and camera's from every angle in an attempt to get a better understanding of the science behinds sports. Here's a blurb about the show: Anyway, last night they had a couple interesting tests. One was using a weighted baseball bat to warm up before stepping up to the plate and another was using a weighted golf club to warm up before teeing off. They found that the warming up with a weighted baseball bat threw off timing and caused a batter to miss the sweet spot of the bat. The finding were similar with golf. After warming up by swinging two golf clubs the golf pro lost 30 yards on his drive as well as missing the sweet spot of the club. The one I really found interesting was when they tested if keeping the laces out made a difference when kicking a football. And it did indeed make a huge difference. With the laces in, after just 6 inches, the ball was rotated 15 degrees, 12 inches 30 degrees, 18 inches 45 degrees...yada, yada, yada. They found that keeping laces in on a FG attempt of 40 yards could hook the ball by as much as 10 feet, obviously decreasing accuracy. So keep those laces out Moorman!!! That's as far as I am willing to take this one.....
  4. Yes they have 92 points, but Buffalo has the tie breaker over them. The way the "Broonz" play though, they'll probably tie Ottawa tomorrow anyway. They have 7 ties in the month of March, they have replaced the NJ Devils as the most boring team to watch....
  5. He's been talking about getting into politics for months now, not big news if your in the Buffalo area. Couldn't get his boxing license re-instated, it's a shame that the last round of the Vassiliy Jirov fight probably cost Mesi a shot at a title. I don't think he was a great boxer, but at the time there was no one else and it was a perfect opportunity. It was fun going to HSBC or to bars to watch his fights. I've seen him out many times, he's a good guy and I wish him the best...
  6. Love that course, always a good sign when you get emails. I recieved them through December last year becuase it was so nice. Although I wonder why I didn't get mine, lol....no lie, I just received mine as I am typing this!!! Open Thursday....sweet, can't wait....
  7. Excellent post Gordio!!!! If you were to only read posts on this board you would think Buffalo is the only City with economic, population, weather, and sports issues. Go B word about Buffalo on a non-Buffalo forum. Of course somebody would in turn post the link here, but at least its a start.....
  8. Nothing new to the people in Buffalo, he's been talking about a political career for a while now. He didn't get his boxing license re-instated everywhere, so he's hanging up the gloves. He wasn't the best boxer, but he had a legitimate shot a title fight if doesn't take a beating in that fight. At the time he was the #1 contender. It's a shame that his career ended in the last round of the Vassiliy Jirov fight. I really enjoyed watching him fight too, the bars were packed and going crazy whenever he fought. I went to HSBC for one of his fights and the place was buzzing with excitement, even though the fight lasted about 30 seconds. I also remember watching that Jirov fight at a place called Divot's in Amherst, I was sitting in a booth across from Jim Brinson, everyone was holding their breath during that last round. The 3 minutes felt like 30 minutes, but he never went down. He's also a pretty good guy, I have met him several times and he's always willing to talk about his career. I wish him the best of luck....
  9. Ok I don't watch the show, but why does that dude wrap his towel like a female?
  10. More like, Game Show helps to end a bad marriage...
  11. Actually none of these were in the Buffalo area.... Paz was stabbed to death in June 2003 on a fishing trip on the Shenandoah River in rural Virginia. Ernesto "Smokey" Miranda was shot to death in the doorway of his home in a village outside San Salvador. One of the most widely publicized MS-13 crimes in America happened in Chamelecón, Honduras. But I understand the dilemma of what to do with these guys? Or more likely, what can be done?
  12. They are warning about getting rear ended by a gansters car, then when you exit your vehicle they will assault and rob you. It's their initiation, sounds pretty weak if you as me. Again it's just a warning and there hasn't been one incident reported yet, hopefully it's bad information.
  13. Nothing happened, just a warning from the chief of police of possible initiation activities. probably why it hasn't been posted.
  14. I live near Williamsville North and avoid the 90 like the plague on my way home from Bills games. I usually tailgate after anyway and wait the traffic out a bit, then hop on the 190 to get back to Amherst. The 190 is a much smoother drive, a little busy by the Peace bridge, but other than that it's pretty light traffic.
  15. The city of Buffalo is a mess, there's no denying that fact. The new regime does have some good ideas and have been developing some areas, but there is a long long way to go. But don't define living in the Buffalo area as just living in the city. The suburbs are absolutely thriving! There are restaurants, new housing, and businesses popping up like crazy. I live in Amherst and my house is assessed at around $230,000, and yes the taxes do suck, I pay 6 grand in taxes as Amherst has one of the highest tax bases in Erie county. But for a 2400 sq foot, 4 bed room, 2.5 bath, 2 car garage, very big yard, in a great/safe community and neighborhood, it's not too bad. I still take the 20 minute drive (during rush hour, maybe 25 minutes) into the city often for a Sabres game (30 minutes to OP for the Bills) or to go to some great restaurants or bars. There are many restaurants in Buffalo that I have heard great things about, but just haven't had to opportunity to do them all. So the restaurant and bar business is definitely alive and well in the city. And with summer just around the corner, there are a lot of events concerts, festivals, and events happening in the downtown area as well. GO BUFFALO!!!
  16. I believe he was using 1988 as an example, it could be any previous year according to his theory. Again this is just someone's opinion that I found very interesting. I do not know if all or any of it is accurate, but there are some very interesting idea's. I do like the copy theory as that is a better explanation for the airplane crash site other than some of the weaker "plant" by the sinister dude theories' that I have heard.
  17. Here's an interesting Lost theory. I don't agree with everything, but there are some good thoughts on it. A bit long, but well worth it for Lost fans....
  18. Stumble? Most likely in his favorites....
  19. Depends who would end up taking Thurman. Miami was always a good RB away from being very good. If they had grabbed him, then my answer would be no....
  20. With that logic, then our 7 wins were actaully losses because we could have had the first pick....
  21. Good idea, sould have thought of that. Don't know what i was thinking posting this on a forum....
